Just a dito to most of the posts here from me
I listen to Hip Hop quite often : Gravediggaz, Cunninlynguists, Brand Nubian, Dialated Peoples, Funkdoobiest, Jurassic 5, Loop Troop, Sniper, Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief etc.
But when I hear the modern "Hip Hop" ...ridiculous how such crappy rhymes can be called music at all. Sometimes the beats aren't that bad actually but when I hear the "ah ah ah yeah baby, nigga , yeah , ah ah ah - my homies and my bitches - ah ah ah ah ..... (going on for a while) and see a half naked guy just showing how "real" he is ...Argh
Sad sad modern times

I agree that the most of the modern rap is pretty crap.
The most of the modern raps express rappers with 1. Lots of money (theres so much of it that it isn't worth to keep: just throw it out of the windows)
2. Lots of women
3. Nice cars
BUT! Instead of criticising hip-hop as repetitive and idiotic music, at least try to listen to the old rap songs

Hate to be the bearer of the trite, but hip-hop was originally created with preference to the beat, the rapper being a compliment to the DJ.But when I hear the modern "Hip Hop" ...ridiculous how such crappy rhymes can be called music at all. that explains why most hip hop I like is for the beat/strings/whatever. I like the rappers too, just not as much.BainbridgeShred wrote:Hate to be the bearer of the trite, but hip-hop was originally created with preference to the beat, the rapper being a compliment to the DJ.But when I hear the modern "Hip Hop" ...ridiculous how such crappy rhymes can be called music at all. I dunno if it's been said here but aussie hip hop is pretty good. Hilltop Hoods, True Live, Bliss'n'Eso (although haven't heard much of their stuff)
I also love: The Streets - unbeatable. And ridiculous live... I just want to see him again
- Outkast
- Um, other stuff. I used to like Missy Elliott. lol.

Hilltop is pretty damn good, and True Live, they both were mentioned... maybe in a different topic? Might be this one. Aus hip hop is almost always good.james_dean wrote:that explains why most hip hop I like is for the beat/strings/whatever. the new Wu-Tang lp leaked today and it's fucking amazing, easily one of the best albums to drop this year. Kanye's Graduation also came out recently and is a similarly stellar product. there is TONS of good hip hop still being dropped these days, you guys just won't go past the shit on the radio & mtv or whatever. the problem is those of you who try to find better "underground" shit happen to find the absolute worst of it (e.g. aesop, the streets). that's a shame but i'm sure things will correct themselves eventually. my suggestion: get the new wutangbanger, the new kanye, and everything you can get in the Stones Throw catalog (excluding dudley perkins/georgia muldrow/percee p); you'll get a feel for the classics in time. beyond that i can only suggest people take their nerdom to house music and leave hip hop alone.

I don't consider The Streets anything like most hip hop, so I'm assuming it's just not your thing. The Streets are amazing!!!
