Wow. A 1000-person strong full hack would be insane. I don't think the 1000 best freestyle players on the planet could do that without a few do-overs.
It would be fun to set a full hack record at worlds next year or something.

On a related note; if you were going to do a 10 minute competition in front of 40,000 people, what event would you do, and how would you structure it?
I'm thinking either sick 3 or some kind of bastardation of shred battles?
I think going with something where the winner is easily noticeable to an ignorant crowd would be ideal.

But doesn't give a very serious impression of footbag. I want people to come away thinking it's a genuine sport. Also we only have about 10 minutes or less, and I want to involve as many footbaggers as I can. I'm sure the experience of playing in front of 40,000 people is something that would be a highlight of many people's footbag careers.

I meant like the one where there are like 20 people shredding and then slowly it dwindles down until there's one guy left.
What's that called?
And I didn't even know Rippin' Run had a scoring system, lol.

(1 round) circle competition with 2 judges and the audience(40000
) as a third judge. usually the idea of playing a role in determening the winner gets a crowd more involved.
other than that:
ROUTINES.
the usual sick3 format is the most boring thing in the world.
the adaption of giving 3x3 tries to each player makes it better, but still not a good showcase if thats all they get to see of footbag.
(meaning if you hit something within the first three, you get another three tries, and then another three)
rippin run/shred duels are ok, but a bit trivial i think.
good luck, sounds like a nice job.
btw- the circle kicking record as a public event is summed up pretty well as a blow to mankind. sad story.

I'm not really on board circle comp in this kind of situation. I think the winner is too unclear, and I think the crowd could pretty much judge any event. Although maybe it could work.
Unfortunately our time limit would be very small; which is why I'm looking at events like sick 3. We only have a total time of probably 10 minutes, including setting up, talking, and getting off the field for the soccer game to commence, so routines are pretty much impossible.
That leaves shred 30 (which is too hard for the audience to know who wins), circle comp (which I also think is too hard for the audience to know who wins), sick 3/1 (which I agree isn't that great at showcasing footbag), shred battles, or last man standing.
At this stage I'm leaning towards shred battles, since the winner is obviously the person who goes the longest without dropping. While I realise this isn't really showcasing freestyle footbag as much of a sport, it seems like the best for the audience situation. Obviously the "competitors" would be aiming to impress the crowd as much as possible, so we'd be allowing players to bail to whatever they want really (so long as they put in the odd impressive move).
I'm not sure exactly what the rippen run scoring system is, but basically you lose points for too many bops, and you gain points for hitting 4, 5, 6 add moves (not sure if it continues past there, since it was developed in a time when nobody were hitting 7 add moves in runs). In rippen run you have to play guiltless.
Shred battles are typically more equal and rely on a honesty policy. Players are simply expected to play at their level, no matter what that level may be. If I'm up against a barely tiltless player, I still have to mainly play genuine, while they can hit lots of toe stalls in their runs.
