Newspaper Leads to CBC Radio Coverage (recording up)

Post by RawSko »

http://orilliapacket.com/ArticleDisplay ... han+Taylor

I was interviewed yesterday about Worlds, and they published the article this morning. At lunch, a lady came and filmed me at school and it's on the website too. I was pretty excited by the whole thing. I've got a soft spot for attention .

Not a bad article, I think. There's a big advertisment right in the middle of it on the website, so read past it -- there's more. I didn't mean for it to sound like I was hating on hacky sack in the article, but I guess the light-hearted way that I said it can't be expressed on paper. Oh well!

Comments apprecitaed! Should I handle this situation differently if it ever comes up again?

Shitty reccording of CBC Interview:

Ben, you already got your wish. Everytime someone from the Toronto area mentions Orillia, you are the first person that comes to mind, and are often mentioned depending on the circumstances :)

Great job, but I would probably somehow get them to show a 32 panel with some vibrant colours or cool pattern so that people could see the difference between a footbag / hack.

Excellent article. It clearly defined that footbag was a sport separate from hackysack, that it's organized and that there are compeitions. The footage of you was as good as it could be for a tiny embedded clip. The article was an enjoyable read.

Congratulations. Great job. Thank you for getting publicity for the sport. I think I may need to start up an Iron Clad Footbag Scholarship Fund where any time a player gets positive press for the sport I buy them a bag from the stitcher of their choice. I might do that one day...

What is also good to do is to get them to mention in the article that if people want to learn more about footbag or get into it they should visit http://www.footbag.org . That way people get pointed to good information if the article piques their interest.

Thanks again

Solid, Ben :D
Too bad the video is bad quality... stuff like your paradons would be more impressive to non-hackers with a nice slowmo. I liked the run with blurry whirl and opposite pixie whirl :)

I tried. When he asked if I had anything to add, I was like "Well, if anyone wants to learn more about footbag they should check out modified.in. That's where I get my inspiration and that's where the community becomes so tightly knit" But he told me that it might not get passed his editors. Apperantly he was right.

Just confirmed this morning with a guy named Mark, from CBC radio. I'm getting a call tomorrow morning to talk on air about footbag. The show is Ontario Morning. I think I'm mostly just talking about the same stuff as in the article. I'm not sure what time yet. He's leaving a message on my phone today with all the details. I think it's only a minute or two, but I'm stoked anyway!

I'll definately try to mention modified and footbag.org this time. I'm pretty sure it's live, so they can't stop me :D

Nice!

I've always wondered how footbag would sound on the radio. Best of luck!

this is the best I know how to do. It's a recording of the recording that my mom got on her cell phone during the interview. :?

I thought it would be nice for you guys to hear that there are people in the media who don't just want to beat on us footbaggers. I thought the interviewers were super cool. Admitedly, I think I misinterprated some of their questions and that some of my answers are open to misinterpratation

please leme know what you think.

I think you did a great job. Nice that you stuck modified and footbag org in there.

I hate introducing footbag to people. I get really nervous and my voice shakes and i always drop the bag after like 2 contacts.
