Modified,

I apologize
For my dissapearance
my sadness
my sickness

i thought i'd come back and share myself, to the world that has kept me going. footbag has always been there for me, a constant progression, pushing hard, pushing harder, beginning, ending, its all coming back around. I never was much of a thinker, a philosopher or a friend, I kept to myself and got no where.... " where you going?...nowhere..." . Pushed myself , my family and forgotten friends away, went to school and forgot it all. I dont hate myself for it, i did what i wanted to do, or atleast think thats what I wanted, it may have been the only way to get through this bullhead, dove deeply into other worlds and finally swimming back to the top. where again, there was me, my family, my friends and footbag, floating around together. laughing, not crying. happy that I do have this passion , this awesome ability to push and express who i am, I started with the wrong reasons, well maybe not.

I started just like anyone else here, I really wanted to play. Id check it out through the lunch room window and want to go out so bad. i went out one day and had so much fun. a living art form that i could just express, unlike my mess of a mind. when i got into it though i just wanted to impress, to get every combo possible on camera, show it to all of you and feed this snowballed ego - that " I am so good at footbag ". I mean... i didnt get anywhere with that mindset except for a horrible one sidesness and a brick of a leg, along with a goal that killed my self confidence and passion.

Ive played off and on since 2003-04, never pushing extremely hard, except for that fake front I was posting on the boards here. I was setting myself up for failure, by the time a tournament rolled around I was not able to hit anything that I had captured that one time on video. hmmmm.. :) I was a fake, my game and myself were going in the wrong directions. I was so eager though, I would push and push and push in that garage until finally! finally I hit that damn move, sweating my ass off I'd capture it on the computer, a nice midnight snack for that wack ego.

I kept it up in tx when I went to school, but there were other distractions in the middle of a desert far far far from home.... I did keep my endurance and drive though through tennis, thats what I went to school for. I went to a tennis teaching program called tennis tech, professional tennis magt. I learned a lot in a short amount of time, too much to put together at that moment, but everything that I experienced is slowly starting to come back to get her peace by piece, day by day. Mentally I feel stronger, and emotionally I still feel kind of numb but its atleast a knowledgable progressive numb. I'm striving to be better each day, breaking down all this garbage that was building up in me, trying to spread it all =out and keep what I believe to be good for me, not stuck in the past trying to put my thoughts in line with others, I didnt get anywhere, stuck in transition and never made a move for 4 years, always conscious of every minute detail that could possibly happen. Thats where kicking comes in for me, it fits my mindset to where it will slowly chill out all those habits ruts that i was stuck in, I just need to cut the egotistical jargen and play. I cant wait to see where I can go with this, without the pressures of how I will do or what ifs - man what a horrible way to think! transition sickness. And its not over by any means, but I want to keep this new thinking and keep on top of my intentions.

its not a thing to me anymore, its just one more whatever that seems to get me somewhere:)

So I cant fit my whole story in one post. I hope to keep this up and keep up with you. I love speaking again with confidence and compassion, family and friends mean more and more to me each day that I understand how to be.

....I have been kicking seriously, pushing harder then I have in the past, along with the right motivation and my good friend Paul Wackerow. we have both helped each other tremendously. We both ended up in Charlotte after college, hes my roomate, hes who I started kicking with. we learned the game together, videos, routines, sandbags! Hes still kicking even with the most hectic job I have ever been around, the guys got some style and drive! I love kicking with him. He hit mobius the other day, I mean we've been practicing and slowly each session you could see his spins getting better an better ( hes such a good toe player so spins were a far featched idea for a while ) but he pushed it, each time, closer and closer, he hit it the other night dead on, so clean. You dont have to say anything after those times, he did it, we did it, and theres no need to mess it up with words or thoughts, we sat there and enjoyed the accomplishment...two sweaty men in a tiny gym, smiling...along with one other older sweaty man in the corner throwing some weight around.

i will definitely be reading this, and will likely comment frequently, there was a lot in that first post though and i wont meddle with it by posting my thoughts on what you said, i will say that im looking forward to seeing what direction you go in with freestyle and itll be great to see you progress.

oh yeah and the thing about being a footbag fake, having to school something over and over just to hit it once on video and not again for ages, we have all been there and its something we all have to deal with, from the guys working on corpse grinder back to back, all the way up to breaking that 10 unique fearless mark, you're no footbag fake.

Welcome back, and thank you for the personal, insightful first post. It was a nice surprise to see you started a blog, because last night I was just watching your Worlds 04 DVD (what a coincidence!) and was wondering what happened to you. Glad to hear you are playing again, have your head on straight, and still have the love.

I remember watching your vids (like Exodus) or cool single tricks (like Jughandle  ) all the time when I was starting, I got tons of inspiration from them.

I think I can also relate to the things you wrote in the first post. I like to believe my mindset on footbag has changed. Even though it's not necessarily true

I'll be reading your blog :)

Hey, its great to hear from you guys.

Paul, I didn't have any plans of NY travels...until I read your post 8) I had a fun road trip last year, got to see my Grandparents in Towanda, PA. The Penn State crew! On up through Ithaca to Rochester where we had a great time. It felt good to be back in an area where I grew up, with a bunch of friends. But this year is a little different, I'm on my own with bills to pay and a beginning business. I'll keep you updated though.

Alright so some freestyle related news. I had my first massage about a month and a half ago. I came in with the thought of having shin splits for the last couple of years...not even close. She went to work on my lower legs, I didnt really know what to expect. She tells me then that shes not only a massage therapist but a physical therapist, and that she kicks ass. Perfect. She says it was not shin splints but adhesions and scar tissue that had binded the muscle groups together. Shit no wonder, there was no give anymore, it felt like stone to me. It took away almost half of my game, stepping was gone and spinning, which I like to work on. So I'd get frustrated when I couldnt set the bag more then a foot.

She has been working mostly on the back portions of my legs. It hurt sooo bad the first time I went in, deep internal pain that was only passed with focused breathing. It was hard to let go, still is, but if I didnt relax the pain was not going away. My first reaction to pain is to tense up, clench and protect, and i had to do the opp for this.

I've had 3 massgae sessions now and I have been building confidence with that support leg, both stepping and spinning are almost reliable again. So for years, I thought I had shin splints...not really. Also upper legs and flexors were pretty knotted up. So go get your legs checked out! Massage, acupuncture, anything.

Wow! I was ALSO wondering out loud with the Sydney crew just a couple of days ago as to where you had gone to and if you were playing. This is great to hear. Your videos were always very popular back in the day.

Best of luck with your return.

well well well what wondrous news! it was great to hear that you're back, but, Paul TOO??? double awesome surprise!

I hope we can all play together again some day. I hope your game goes the way you want it, ryan. you (like me) have always been very hard on yourself, so I understand your feelings of inadequacy. I've seen you live more than most people (I think), and you've always been a talented player. I know you've still got some of that good shred left in you ;) keep it up, buddy.

My legs/feet have ben screwed for awhile. I really need to find a good massage therapist to help me out 8) There was a guy at worlds 2002 which everyone said had magic hands. I was too homophobic to get a massage though because he looked like MR. Clean.

Ryan,
I'm really glad to see that you are back to footbag and have a blog now.

You were one of the first guiltless-level players I met in person at the Houston jam a year and a half ago. I can remember being so star-struck seeing you do your runs and thinking "wow I wonder if one day I can ever be that good". All those ducks and spins still have an influence on me, but I've got a lot of work to do on those concepts.

I will be in Asheville, NC in early January. Not sure if that's anywhere near where you are now, but if so maybe we can hook up for a session.

It sounds like you are going to play for yourself and for your personal enjoyment, rather than the approval of others. That is definitely the way to go. Best of luck to you.

It give me a warm fuzzy feeling to know we'll be seeing updates of what you're hitting and down the road some footage.

Take care,

Ben

Friends,
yay!
Hey,
Wish my mother some positive happay nappy birthday thoughts,
shes my awesome mom who supported my kicking and tournament travel when I started. Although she was a worried mother at some points and foiled a chilly philly plan back in the day :)
I was so pissed, but she was right -
the roads were really bad that weekend with snow and ice.

Hi Tom! So, the bag, I remember that now. I completely forgot which one it is. Hey I'll have to find this picture, actually a couple pics from that weekend. Me and you with some buzzed up eyes and wooden swords, mean growels and a kitty cat at anellos pad!

This goes out to any stitchers here who have bags...for sale. Paul and I have been emailing some folk about ordering a bag but havent gotten a response, I know its holiday season so its probably busy right? Anyways, we'd love to get 2 badass bags. While I'm talking about equipment - I have been kicking with a sister shoe to g unit, its a reebok leather speacial edition, I love them. I have not kicked with actual g units but saw that 30$ special. Has anyone kicked with these tan/brown kicks? I should post in equipment...or are g units that awesome that I should just buy them?

Ben , Houston was great. Good times down there, short times too...I wish I was just a little closer to you back then, and had a car. You have a cool crew for sure and are keeping it alive after the Dallas era. You keep progressing so fast from what I'm reading :) keep it up!

Time for a shower

Ohhh man I dl Christmas Vacation today  I used to watch it all the time, my roomate busts on me for having chevy chase humor. lol.

Hey man, just wanted to say I had a great time kicking with you at funtasticks 05. I wanted to kick down in Richmond, but I lost your email. Now you're in Charlotte, so who knows when it'll happen. But I thought you were cool man, we had fun goin to Red Robin haha.

-Chris

As a side note, I just wanted to say I appreciated your rant about breaking your neck to hit that move on film. We've ALL been there, but no one ever talks about it. Thanks for just SAYING something. We always cover up stuff like that.

Okay peace for real this time.
