I heard somewhere that stomach acids dont do much in the way of digestion. That they are more of a disinfectant to the food we put into us. BTW of course it doesnt melt, why would you want it too-imagine melty poop :?

I simplified the process a lot, but here it is for you;

I didn't see where it said that the acid went. Is there some base that gets secreted (probably by the liver) that neutralizes it or is it disposed of somehow?

for our intents and purposes, acids are free hydrogen ions, H+.

H+ reacts with food, neutralizing itself in the process.

But doesn't that make the assumption that all foods are OH-?

those questions from jeremy are not really rhetorical at all except maybe the last one.

What cheese are we talkin about here? Like already mentioned it really depends on which cheese your sticking in your mouth maybe it might work with some of that processed cheese that america is so famous for.. yuck.
Hard cheeses, a definite no.

I wonder what would happen to the cheese depending on which one if you heated it at that temperature in a water bath with a lid ontop.. would it (I think the word is) sublimate? Like ice that goes into the gas state without becoming liquid first.

Do you honestly not know the answer to your question Switch?
why on earth would he know the melting point of cheese?
this whole thread is ridiculous

jeremy-you also don't seem to know the definition of rhetorical

a rhetorical question is asked merely for effect with no answer expected.

I know what a rhetorical question was.

I thought it was obvious that cheese doesn't melt because even if it had time to, the digestive process begins so quickly. I assumed people knew the answers to those questions, because it seems like below average common sense can answer them for you;

People obviously don't swallow full slices of cheese without chewing.

The food obviously reaches the stomach almost immediately, as there is no where else for it to go.

The digestive process obviously starts as soon as the food gets to the stomach. Why would it sit in the stomach and melt? It doesn't make sense.

Yes, but then my first post clearly says, "So I guess I'm actually asking if cheese melts at 98.6 degrees." Or something to that effect. Quit reaching for an argument.

Btw, I'm talking about Kraft's American Cheese, the individual sliced ones. You know, mixing 3 slices of that with chicken Ramen Noodles is so unbelievably good. Best, cheap meal I've ever eaten.

digestion starts when you put it in your mouth.

saliva and chewing are part of the very first digestive process you could even call cutting the food with a knife to fit your mouth a part of the digestive process. it just might be a difference of opinion, lets leave it at that.

processedCheese^10 ..i bet that stuff can melt in your mouth if you give it some time and move your tongue around real fast :lol:

Or ripping it apart and such with your hands. As for breaking food down, I'd say it begins in the mouth with all those bacterias in your saliva.

I have no idea how healthy processed cheese is, but I frankly don't care, it tastes good, and it's not exactly expensive. ^_^
