Sick session with Matt K yesterday, we both played really well, long strings and some new tricks for both of us.

Highlights from the past few days:

FS Genesis (Both Sides)
Clownface
Nebula (BSoS)
Stepping diving ss mirage (BSoS)

Whirr > Whirlygig (rpt.)
Blurry drifter > Jani walker (rpt.)

Ducked a few furious sets. Didn't hit anything though.

Wow, I abandon my footblog so often. I feel bad for it.

BUMP.

I rarely write in this thing and rarely use it as an actual blog for anything other than footbag, but I figured this is a good opportunity to reflect. I have been extremely depressed lately and I am finding it hard to be happy about anything. Footbag is one of the few things that get me through my day, when I'm playing footbag, i'm meditating, nothing can touch me. Why is this though? Why can't I feel like this all the time. I'm beginning to feel that something is wrong with me. I don't really hang out with anyone other than footbaggers, and thats only when I go to JAM's or Tournies. I look for other things to distract me like footbag does, but i've yet to find anything other than mind numbing video games and certain beverages, both of which make me feel 2x as worse afterwords. I'm spiraling out of control pretty fast, and loosing grip on myself. I come here to write this and admit it to myself, and hopefully I can get some words of inspiration from my closest friends all around the world.

Who wants to get up and move somewhere and play in a footbag sanctuary and experience bliss forever? <- serious question.

yo dude, I'm (at the same time) very sad to read that you're feeling like that, and very happy that you're expressing it so we can talk to you about it.

I could see why you're depressed. You're post-high school, staying at home, bagging when you can, no real direction, probably getting fucked up a lot. Looks like you're taking the Matt Cross approach to life.

So, I can say this about that lifestyle. I had a lot of fun being a wastoid bagger. hell, I still do. But there's definitely feelings of depression and pointlessness that come with it. It's a great lifestyle for enjoying your youth, but it can feel like you're going nowhere.

I definitely recommend you get to a bigger city. How are your grades? can you transfer to a big footbag city like rochester, NYC, or Buffalo yet?

I'm living in Buffalo right now and it's footbag HEAVEN. I'm living in a house with the two most dedicated kickers (although they are not into freestyle) in the area, we're talking about throwing a jam in a month or two. I have about 3 or 4 kids with footbag shoes who are all about freestyle and learning from all my mistakes and getting into the scene. It's really cool.

Anyway, we've got an extra room in the apartment we're moving into, so if you wanted to come and take a little vacation, we could definitely do that. There is a huge kicking session on Thursday, and another on sunday. Maybe take a mid day train on thursday (or night train on wednesday), stick around for the weekend, play for the sunday session, and head back?

There are also some other fun possibilities we can discuss about that extra room, but I think it would require some discussion with the other roommate

The life of a passionate footbagger can be a little lonely, because we're such a rare breed! But we're such an interesting, fun, wonderful breed! this is an example of something called a Double-Edged Sword. Familiar with the term? It basically means that while you use it to help you, it also hurts you. life is full of those.

Footbag brings us close to the most amazing people we'll ever meet, but it also keeps us apart from them because we're so few. You take the good with the bad, I guess.

I'm glad you're on the scene, buddy. Get someplace where you can really rock out. I'll do what I can to help.

You're one of my favy people that I've met through footbag, I'm always so stoked to get to see you. You're a great guy with truly special skills and I'm proud to know you.

Take Matt's advice, a change of scenery to somewhere a little more inspiring can change everything.

Just stay as positive about life as you can, the world is amazing and we're all lucky to be alive.

Will, I'll take you up on your offer for blissful footbaggin' solitude.

A few months ago, I was having this same mentality, and I still am. I kept thinking "I'm lonely and depressed. My friends are scattered everywhere and my only connection with them is through footbag." I don't hang out nor do I connect well with other people unless they're footbaggers, but lately I've been trying to network better with other people. I have the NYFA crew to help me from going insane, but there's this impulse inside of me that just wants to visit footbaggers outside of NYC. You can say that I just want to be a vagabond and enter each city looking to play with footbaggers all day long.

Matt's right: footbaggers are an especially rare breed. There's a lot of mutual respect amongst footbaggers because we all try to bust ourselves in getting better and better in this sport. It's a very passionate thing.

NYC is a fun suggestion. It is the center of the world in a lot of respects. However, it's very expensive to live here, and you might have to support yourself with two jobs if you don't have a college degree. I'm actually thinking about moving away from NYC, but I don't know when. Canada seems like a pretty good suggestion, don't you think?

You're one of the coolest guys I know, Will. Don't let stupid depression get you down.

Thank you all for your words and comments, it really means a lot to me. You are all my very good friends, and I do believe you have all cheered me up somewhat, and I have a good plan of action to improve my life, and live footbag.
