For Beginners Only: The "Magic Hop" Video

Trying to describe the magic hop with words alone can be a bit tricky, so I put together a very brief video that clearly shows how to do this elusive little bugger that is one of the key components to shredding. Check out the video here:

This is also my fist attempt at doing any real (somewhat) fancy editing - I think it worked for this move fairly well.

Hey man, thanks for making this video. I have been playing seriously for almost 11 months, but it's always good to go back and refine those basics. I might be able to throw more pixie stuff mid string thanks to that video. But we'll see. Thanks for being such a good supporter to this sport. Shred on brotha Home G!

i thought it was more like a magic cushion, rather than a real hop... but now i understand!

Anything different in making the magic hop in clipper? Can you or anyone record another video like this one explaining the magic hop on a clipper stail?

Mikel - the magic hop is done with the leg that is going to be supporting the next stall, so for clipper you would do a small hop with the support leg and then into your clipper.

I think it is important to also note that the purpose of the magic hop is to allow continuation of rhythm/timing/balance and you land from the magic hop as you are cushioning/catching the bag.

Very good instructional video Daryl. Thank you for posting.

One thing I would like to point out. When you highlighted the hopping foot, the overlay on the foot was white. Perhaps a transparent whole through the overlay would have been just as affective without clouding the focal point of the video.

Good video, I think you should have emphasized landing on the toe more though.

I inadvertently practice my magic hop sometimes by stalling something that isn't supposed to stick, like a rock. With a good magic hop it'll usually stay, without a good one it'll roll right off nearly every time.
