I own multiple pairs of each shoe used for freestyle and I was thinking about what elements I would take from each tonight while talking to Sam Potter. Here is what I think would be the best shoe.
Toe : G-unit w. walls
Inside: Quantum 2
Stability (like, width of sole): Laver
Spring/Cushioning : Climacool
Sole: Unit
Look: Quantum 1/2
Weight: Climacool
I think I would've said Unit inside a few weeks ago but I got the quantum2 about a week ago and the inside feels so good plus you can swirl set with it easily unlike the unit. I must say I have not broken in my mesh units, so maybe this will change after that.
Anyway, curious to hear what others think.

I haven't played in Units, but I've played in lots of lavers and I have climas. Here's what I think.

Toe: Quantums. It's so huge, it's like, impossible to drop on it.
Inside: Climas. It's almost too good.

Looks: Destroyed lavers.
Weight: Quantums. They're not really lighter, but it's distributed better or something. I really like them.

I think I'm the only one to ever play in Nike Court Del Mar's, but I think they are similar to clima cools in a lot of ways. There big problem is they are heavy other than that they're sweet. I would play in g-units all the time, but I hate the toes, and thats the weakest part of my game. I play in quantum's I think they're the best but I hate the slipperyness.
Why haven't they made my perfect shred shoe yet?

Toe= Laver, Quantum is way to big. It allows you to be lazy on your catch. Laver is the perfect size to the fact you can be a little half ass but still got to make the catch.

Stability= New Balance Ct520s, this thing molds to your feel and just doesn't crush under your weight.
Cushioning= Still waiting for a good feel but maybe G units/clima
Sole= Ct520s, these things are actually made for a sport. Traction great and made with great rubber

Look= Twill lavers!!! I honestly don't know though. I don't care if you have banana shoes if they shred well use them. Not a fashion sense

i like the size of the clima toe, but i prefer the shape of the laver toe, and the toe walls. clima don't have the same type of toe walls, which i think are very important to learning proper toe form. i chose quantum insides because they are the best out there straight out of the box. No modifications required and they have well proportioned curves. One might argue that modded clima insides are better, but bug feel is limited and they extensive mods are a pain in the ass. likewise, people might suggest g-units but i think g-unit insides cause lazyness, and as dave said, you can have setting issues.
for stability i chose ct-520's. i tried a pair once and they seemed to be really stable, and held my foot nice and firmly in place, the material didn't strech or shift when i moved my foot in the shoe. it didn't have any noticable problems like it would roll out on you or over pronated or anything. I'm not a fan of lavers or gunits, as they weren't designed (or were't designed recently) for athletic endeavours and i feel lack adequate stability. My quantums are also poor in this area, and my climas have become poor over time, and i can't remember how they used to be.
For spring i chose climas. they are by far the most cushioning and really saved my knees, but over time they squish down and distort in the patterns of load (this may be because i've been using the same pair for 2 years). I chose quantums as an alternate but i'm not sure if people have played the 2's long enough to see how well it lasts or if is squishes down like the climas.
For soles i would have chosen climas, because off the hop they are nice and flexible, and grip really well with the ridges sticking out. however, the plastic on them wears down quite quickly into the foam and then they are as slippery as hell. Lavers are inflexible bricks that take a while to break in an are slippery on many surfaces. quantums are flexible but are also slippery, and the grip (ridges on the bottom of the shoe) is not very deep and wears down quickly. gunits from what i have seen appear grippy, relatively flexible and long lasting, and so are my choice.
For look, i chose lavers. it's classic, and i like the way the toe boxes look, getting nice and round. they don't look ugly, there are a variety of colour options, and they seem appropriately sized. i don't like the look of the quantum toe boxes with that soft material. Outta the box, climas look good. mod them and they can look hideous. i don't like the look of reverse modding, so leather g-units are out, and they also look too big. same is true for NB's.
Weight is climas hands down. they are nice and light and i personaly like their balance. weight is distributed over your entie foot, where as with quantums, lavers and units it feels like all the weight is under my foot, making them feel heavier than they are.
durability also goes to lavers. mine i put through hell and they are still doing well. quantums are poorly manufactured and have had tons of durability complaints regarding materials, and died well before the shoe's expected life span. lots of complains about units tearing and falling apart once modded, and i've had the same experiences with climas.

I seriously want an all-black shred shoe, but with some nice designer outline. I thought the black Quantum 01 or the new Rod Laver model was seriously wicked in this style. However, I think the white/grey version of the Quantum 02 looks really cool, too, so I'm not too photogenic when deciding a color for my shred shoe.
