Please. My posts are predictable because they're in response to other people's posts. I didn't bring up America, and my comment about America was clearly a facetious response.PegLegHolly wrote:no... it was a joke to make you laugh.
edit: thats a good one, jeremy!
edit again: your posts are very predictable, jeremy. you should mix it up more. less anti-america and more stuff you enjoy.
The person who posted after my initial post claimed that I would have found the video funny if I was an American. I would say that's much more of an offensive attack on America than anything I've said. He's saying that Americans find girls eating shit funny. I'm convinced that many Americans do not find anything humorous about that kind of filth.
Regarding the jokes. Your joke was not funny. My joke was not funny. It's a sad reflection on you that you found either of them funny. I had a strong dislike for Steve Irwin when he was alive, and his death didn't take that dislike away, but I still don't see any humour in laughing about how somebody died. Death isn't a very funny matter. I can only guess that either nobody close to you has ever died or you find it difficult to empathise with other people.

when i read this:
croikey!
) that OBVIOUSLY there are many, many americans who would not find the video amusing or at all appropriate. i also think that america as a nation DOES have a reputation for having...we'll say a different sense than other countries. thats not at all suprising. i find some british humor funny, for example, but for the most part i'd say i share a lot of the things (/types of humor/jokes ie family guy over say some more dry british humor, or heaven forbid some australian joke that i dont even understand) i find funny with more people in america than in other countries.
whats so fucking suprising about that?
that is one of the great things about humor. it doesnt necessarily NEED to be intelligent. if it makes people laugh, its funny. if someone taking a shit makes someone laugh more than a complex, intelligent, "high-brow" joke, than its funnier to that person, and as far as im concerned, nothing is inherently funnier than anything else, without first considering the audience.
i was like BULLSHIT! then i went back and checked, and that is, in fact, what happened. i have to agree with jeremy (Please. My posts are predictable because they're in response to other people's posts. I didn't bring up America, and my comment about America was clearly a facetious response.

i stated in the original thread that i thought the video was disgusting and that i didnt see how people could keep watching it once they saw the first part. i didnt say it was funny.
i dont think that steves death was funny but i think thats the way he wanted to go out. sticking his head in crocodiles mouths, getting bit my venomous snakes, he lived that life knowing he would go out fighting. i admire steve for the fact that he went out doing what he loves.
b. you've never met me. and since i think a joke is funny, im not empathetic. i'm a very nice person in real life. your assumptions are entirely wrong and i'd appreciate it if you left my loved ones out of the forums. and if you feel like attacking my personality, just send it in a pm or keep it to yourself.

a. many people close to me have died. including a boyfriend. theres no reason for you to personally attack me... especially since i didnt attack you.Jeremy wrote:I can only guess that either nobody close to you has ever died or you find it difficult to empathise with other people.

Only a small percentage of people find the video funny. Most find it nasty and shocking. I wouldn't call it porn (even is some rare people "get off" on it), but definitely shock. I don't think Americans are the only people who watch such things. Has anyone seen "Faces of Death"? Nasty stuff from all over the world. There are four movies.
Having gone through the horror of watching the video, I wanted people to share their experience with it too if they'd already seen it. At least some discussion is happening about it now, though not the kind I originally wanted.
I understand that it might be against the rules to post about such things, and rules are good. Though I'm not sure about removing the entire thread.
However, I don't think it is a topic which isn't socially acceptable for discussion. Many many people are discussing it all over the internet.

Sorry there is a interpretation problem here. I post on another forum and when you say something stupid or self deprecating you put those <_< marks in and people know what you're talking about. That wasn't a joke at the people who died, it was a joke at us, for having such a stupid and lame excuse for being late to training.Frank_Sinatra wrote:Responding to news of the Minneapolis bridge collapse, in which 13 people diedJeremy wrote:...but I still don't see any humour in laughing about how somebody died. My statement was clearly not a personal attack at all. I'm sorry you felt that way. When I use language, I mean exactly what I say, and not anything else. I obviously know I haven't met you in person, which is why I said "I can only guess..." - because you've given no indication of why you find a joke about the deaths of 2000 innocent people funny. What is funny about it?PegLegHolly wrote:a. many people close to me have died. including a boyfriend. theres no reason for you to personally attack me... especially since i didnt attack you.

You need to have a look at the reality of this topic a little more.
I posted about how I thought the video was disgusting. Somebody responded to my post, attacking my dislike for some aspects of America, and claiming that the reason I didn't find the video funny was because of the cultural differences between Australia and America (this is false, plenty of Australians would find it funny. They all live in Frankston, Redfern and Gagebrook). I tried to point out what he was saying; that pornographic videos of people eating faeces is intrinsically funny in American culture, and you responded with a joke about the death of Steve Irwin. Why did you choose a joke about the death of a famous Australian, and not somebody else? Why did you choose a joke that you knew was bordering on political in-correctness? It seems impossible to believe the fact that you told a joke about an Australian directed at an Australian is coincidence and it seems impossible to believe you'd tell a joke like that for any other purpose than to insult me. You claim that you were just trying to make me laugh, but I find that really hard to believe. Did you know that I didn't like Steve Irwin much, or did you believe the US propaganda that he's viewed as some kind of hero here? That was either a very thoughtless and unintelligent action, or it was an attempt at an insult. Either way it had nothing to do with the discussion and was never going to achieve anything positive. How did you think I'd react? Laugh and say; "Sorry I'm wrong, that video of women eating their own faeces is hilarious. Lets see more videos like that and we can all hold hands and laugh about them together?"
My statement, which you interpreted as a personal attack, had a very simple and straight forward message.
If you make completely irrelevant jokes about dead people directed at somebody from that same nationality, if you find a joke about the deaths of 2000 innocent people funny, what does it say about you?

Sure, and when I'm wrong I say so, which is fairly often. Good convincing argument though. Do you notice how often I resort to crass insults? That's because I think about what I write before I write it (most of the time).
The reality is that you tried to attack me over points that aren't even true. You talk about how I know nothing about what kind of person you are. Well doesn't that work both ways? We both have to judge each other by our behaviour on the forum and if you're going to accuse me of making inaccurate judgements because of that, why are yours so accurate?

I find it kind of funny how the whole topic got moved, but the title of the video stayed. I wonder how many people copied the title into google to see what everyone is talking about.
Yea why don't you like Steve Erwin? I know of him, but I don't know much about him? Is it because of the image he made for Australia? That everyone thinks you guys are all crocodile hunting dundees and that you have kangaroos all around? (not trying to be funny here)
