I agree with this completely. I've been through that kind of thing before. I can say through personal experience that the consequences are not worth it. I mean if that thing is a thousand dollars, their bound to come looking for it. Just think about it.

Haha. I work in a bank and there's nothing more dumbfounding than people who get errors in their favour and go to town. How stupid do they think we are? (note: I'm talking massive amounts of money here and I'm not bagging you or anything cause as you said, 15 years old, 80 bucks, there's only one thing you're gonna do with that)

Having said that, I wouldn't be so convinced this store has the kind of processes banks do to pick up things like that. It's just been processed twice and I wouldn't be surprised if they never picked it up. Also, it took them two weeks to pick it up? That's a bit funny. Those errors are extremely easy to make but our systems mean they are picked up on the day. Depends what the error was I guess. And maybe how lax their systems are! hehe.

Also I don't view it as not stealing just because it fell in your lap and you're not likely to get caught. If someone gives me too much change I take it back and it's exactly the same principle so I'd definately return it. I can totally understand keeping it though, massively tempting.

I'd hold on to it unopened for the next 6 months. Sometimes these situations screw you over and it takes awhile for them to notice

You should tell them. Who knows, maybe they meant to send you a free one (prize or something) or maybe since you're honest they'll let you keep it or at least give you something for it.

If non of those things happen, it's still the right thing to do.

The word from the forum I got it at is that others got an extra too. People there say that if a company sends you stuff its yours legally? I am still holding off, I want to hear what happens if anyone else reports their extras.

Well 'yours legally' could be close to the mark. Like someone said... you never received a projector. Just like if I give someone $500 too much at the bank by accident and we call them up and they say that I didn't, we've got nothing.

That actually happened. That was a shit day. I hate that guy. So much.

If this place is so "well" run, maybe you should call and tell them you never received your projector.

When the third one arrives, you can call and say they sent you an extra one !

Now you have two, and are on the record as being honest and returning an extra . . . or just do nothing and wait it out.

I don't know about US law, but in Australia you certainly have no right to keep it if they ask for it back, but would not be seen as committing any offence if you keep it and aren't asked for it back. If they do ask for it back and you tell them you're keeping it, you could definitely be prosecuted.

US laws are fairly similar to Australian laws, so I'd suggest that legally you can keep it until they ask for it back.

I also wanted to add that if you sold it, or gave it away, and then they asked for it back, you could still be prosecuted for not returning it.

Yeah, it's not legal for you to keep stuff just because they mailed it to you accidentally (technically you could argue that it is legal for you to keep it, but you have to pay them for it if that's a meaningful distinction).

I think you should just do the honest thing and return it.

Don't mention it, I remember finishline sent me shoes that were supposed to go to some guy in california, dont know how it happened because I'm in ny, but I gave the shoes to my sister.

Maybe the executive made it look like he sold another one, so he could falsify his profit sheet to inflate the company's stock, before he liquidates the company ,and screws all of his employees.

Why spend even a nickel to contact them about the error?
Why should you go to the trouble of shipping it back?

If they do ask for it back, make them come and get it. And refuse to sign anything if the UPS guy come to pick it up.

It was their error, and fuck them if they try to make you lift an extra finger to do THEIR job.

If you do keep the projector, you should try projecting 2 movies at once on the same wall...maybe there will be some demonic result to start an internet rumor about.
