If I wanted to learn German, at home, for free where do you think I'd find a site that would help me with that best?

If you are resourceful you can find a learn german audiobook on a torrent site.

That's been successful for me so far.

I would recommend that too.

Perhaps you could first of all browse some websites, which are providing reviews of several language learning programs and after that go buying some software at the torrentshop.

After you've received the learning-software you should record yourself while speaking the foreign language.
this helped me a lot learning chinese. okay, chinese is something completely different, because it's a tone-based language and therefore it is more important to pronounce and emphasize the syllables right.
But I think it is of great help to hear yourself to correct your pronounciation.
Sometimes the impression you get of your speaking is very different when you don't listen to yourself.

Couldn't get it to work properly.

Oh well, w/e. I can only make like, half the stuff I get off torrenting work, I don't know, maybe I just have bad computer skills. ^_^ If I do decide to blow a ridiculous amount on a language learning program, I won't be downloading it, lol. Probably just go to BestBuy or something.

its alright. its wierd. it has a wierd way of teach like. its intuitive learning where they show you an image and then show you the words and say it to you. and from logical thinking you decide wat the words mean and how the word structure is. its pretty good but i didnt get to far. and i was a little annoyed how there isnt any like language structure rules built in and no like vocabulary dictionary.

Another option is to join http://www.myhappyplanet.com/ Its a social networking site with a focus on members teaching each other different languages - I joined for German but there are heaps of options. There are also tutorials and other features available. But listening to audio torrents is probably the best way
