For all stitchers out here,I wanted to know:how many bags did it take for you to fianlly get a dencent,choice bag?

It depends on what you think would be decent and choice. It also depends on if your talking about a 32 panel(it sounds like you are).

I'd say around 40 or 50. Of course the pro stitchers (Tom Mosher, PengPengdu, Richie Abshire, Josh Raye, ect... There are tons) make many more than that. People learn at different speeds too..

I'd say just keep on stitching (if you do) until you think your bags are "Choice."

I was just curious about how long it had taken for other stitchers to produce a bag they were truly proud of.I myself just moved up from 12 to 32 paneled bags and found them to be a lot of fun .....and thanks,you did give me a good estimate,though it seems like a lot of bags tomake.......

I don't keep count on the bags that I make, since every bag you make is a learning experience, but I would say 30. That should give you enough time to learn how to improve the quality of your stitching until you're satisfied, in my opinion. Also, I think it was around that amount in which I made perfect looking (and playable) 32s.

The most important thing to understand is experiment and dissect everything you do in footbag stitching. Have a good eye. Learn from your mistakes, and understand what counts. By following these instructions to a tee, I can't see how a person interested in footbag stitching can't make a perfect product by the 25th bag (or lower).

Still, even at that point, you may still want to change something, and improve on it. Creativity is still a wild card when it comes to stitching.

I think it took me 2-3 bags to have a choice bag.

that's just because of this:

I'm stitching for nearly 6 month and since 2-3 weeks I have the template/filler/ammount of gather, that I want to keep and try to bring to "perfection".

But all my bags before (with some exceptions), were, at the point I finished them, choice bags for me.

I sew a bag and thought: "wow, the best bag I ever made!!!!!"

From my current point of view, this bags were shit!!!

But at this very moment, they were the greatest bags on earth!!!

I can't say how many bags I stitched until now, but as the others said befor:

Everybody learns in a different speed!!!
It's hard to make a general statement.

Took me about 70.

Thats because i bought ultrasuede soft instead of light and hadn't realized until like 50 bags in. You'll be surprised how much different and all ultrasuede soft bag is copared to a light one. Its just like a hacky sack.

When i did get ultrasuede light i never knew about bleedholes until bag 70 ish. That made evry bag i had a leaky one and the bleedholes were never consistant.

I was also using 6mm bbs and aquarium filler. This made the bag almost harder that an average hackysack.

I don't regret my mistakes, but i just wish i didn't blow 60 bucks on the wrong fabric. Now every bag i make is choice, when its broken in. I jsut need to master my filler and i'll be set.

I've made at least 50 32s with proper fabric and filler and thread and everything and my bags still suck. It's different for everyone.

I made a thread like this too when I first started. I was expecting the answer to average around 20, 'cause I felt I was getting there and I was in the early teens. Most people said 50+.

I've made 50 bags to date, and my absolute best bag is #025. #023 is probably equally awesome, and was my first awesome bag. #015 was also one of my best, choice-wise. I think I was a fast learner somehow though.

my twelfth bag rules... i guess me and erik have that in common. i pick things up superfast, especially something as uniform as stitching.

not descrediting cale and erik but

perhaps the reason of faster learning would be more toward better tutorials and help and advice from stitchers with 100+ under their wing. or maybe perhaps since people have seen so many good bags from people now that they know what they want in a bag of their own so they strive for that perfect bag of theirs + the reason before

yeah, it took me 70+ bags because the only footbags i had at the time were hacky sacks and i had no idea of how much different a footbag and a hacky sack is. I had no help but from tutorials and emailing stitchers. But again, thats nothing near to having someone next to you showing you how its done.
