I've been looking around the internet thingy recently trying to find a way of indexing footbag videos. Why? let me try to explain by giving a scenario.
Lets say, I'm trying to learn how to hit 'blurry whirl'. I would love to be able to search some site for "Blurry Whirl" and get a list of strings that have that move. Or perhaps I would like to search for 'Vasek "Blurry Whirl"', This would allow me to find clips of vasek hitting blurry whirl.
NOTE: I want to find clips not videos. eg. A video may be 20 minutes long but the clip (string) I'm interested in is only 15 seconds in that video somewhere, the search should send me to that exact location NOT the start of the whole video.
Anyways, I have found a reasonably decent tool (not perfect but ok) for doing this, and surprisingly its free.

Quick Demo

I have indexed a video by Ken Somolinos for this demo purpose (sorry for not asking permission Ken, will remove it if you want).
1) Go to site http://www.scenemaker.net
2) In the search bar enter ["blurry whirl"] (with quotes but not the square brackets)
3) Click on the video clip you want to watch
This will bring the scene up. (Note: this is not great, currently youtube vids start from the beginning and seek forward)
4) You can click the 'Video Info' tab under the video the get the full scene description (The entire string)
Hopefully this gives you a bit of an idea of what I wanted to achieve.
How to add your own video
=========================
1) Go to site http://www.scenemaker.net
2) Register
- Link can be found at the top right corner of the home page
- I had to use my gmail account, for some reason it was not accepting my .com.au emails, so this process is a bit problematic.
3) Login
4) Click 'Add your favourite scenes' on the home page (middle of page, look for green arrow)
5) Paste the youtube, google video, etc link in the location shown, click start
6) Click the 'Start Scene' at the beginning of a string
7) Click 'End Scene' at the end of a string
This will pop up a 'Scene Info' window.- Enter [Footbag - <player> - <Misc>] in the "Scene Name" field
Eg: Footbag - Ken Somolinos - Supper Run on 01/01/2008
- Leave Deep Tags empty (they are very problematic)
- Enter the string in the "Description" area
Eg: Paradox Drifter > Blurry Whirl > Butterly > Ducking Clip > Paradox Drifter > Blurry Whirl > Blur > Butterfly > Blurry Whirl > Flapper > Butterfly > Paradox Mirage > Piggbeater > Butterfly
9) Repeat steps 6-8 for each scene in the video
10) CLICK SAVE!!!!! (Otherwise you will loose all your work, trust me I know). You can click this as often as you like during the editing (will stay in the same page).
Thats it, those strings are now searcheable.
Note on protocol
================
I've taken the liberty of defining a simple protocol as described above
- Footbag - <Player> - <Description> in the "Scene Name" field
- <String> in "Description" field
- Don't use abbreviations (Use Pixie Leg Over instead of PLO, Use Paradox instead of Pdx)
- Use most recogniseable move name
Eg: Neutron Smasher vs Jhonny Quest (or whatever it is) vs Atomic Gyro Mirage
I've done this so that search results have the Player Name instantly visible and so that we can search on single moves or links. Eg
Search: ["Blurry Whirl"]
Will return all clips of any player hitting blurry whirl
Search: [Somolinos "Blurry Whirl"]
Will return all clips of Ken hitting blurry whirl
Search: [Somolinos "Blurry Whirl > Blur"]
Will return all videos of Ken hitting the above link.
Note: The 'Footbag' infront of the player name is to trim unrelated results from the search. Eg: A search for ["Backside Predator"] may return some unexpected results so [Footbag "Backside Predator"] may eliminate unexpected surpirses.
And also, some order is needed or else everyone will enter different things defeating the purpose of this.
Anyways, I hope this takes off because I think it would be a great learning resource for us kicky sackers.
