Anne's LA blog

Post by Anne »

I guess it's about time I get myself a truely international footblog now that I'm staying for a good deal of time in LA, rather than just having my little Danish footbag community as the only online footbag community.

So here I am!!!

Firstly, thanks to all the cool shredders, I've already met - Santa Cruz and San Diego people. All of you have added to my footbag inspiration and pushed my footbag limits further than I've taken them for a really long time!

Since I've come to LA (thanks to SC/SD) I've hit tons of new cool stuff.... let's see if I remember some of it...

ripwalk on both sides
sidewalk on both sides
dimwalk>ripwalk
ripwalk>osis
ripwalk>rvs whirl
crispy dlo
datw
magellan>dimwalk (my first consecutive pixie tricks!)

And thanks a lot to Emily, my osis are actually starting to work out now!!!!

Footbag these days just feels so good. ... oh yeah... blizzard yesterday!!

I've always been a solid basic player with really long runs. However, lately my runs have become really short.. guess it's because I'm learning all these new things, which I'm trying to combine with my basics, so I keep dropping the bag. But I guess I'll get over it as I keep on schooling links to and from all the new tricks.

Anyway, if anyone ever decides to drop by LA, I'm in for some fun shredding..

Cheers. Over and out.

Well then, here comes the first update!!

Rich advised me to work on far osis in order to be able to hit torque eventually. So yesterday I got the far osis going on the good side. Today, I was thinking 'hey.. what if I do a step before that?'. And within a couple of attempts I had stepping far osis going... And as my footbag mentor Lise always says when I hit something: FLIPSIDE!!! So I had a go... and hit it. I think it looked sloppy on the flip, but hey... some more to work on!!

Think I need to try and stop hitting new stuff and just schooling the things I have so far!!! Don't wanna be a one hit wonder!

it's great you've gotten a chance to play with California people! I bet they're really nice and helpful.

have your plans changed since we last PM'd? Can you still shred some time when I'm there?

Hey Anne! (I have a sister named Anne :) )

I am a good friend of your sister and she's kept me sorta up to date on your progress over the last while and I think it's so cool where you have gotten to now!

It seems like you're off to a great start with footbag and that can only lead to more fun times.

And good call on listening to Lise about both sides, it's SO important!

You got sucked in to the curse of new moves as soon as you moved away from Lise..
I am not really worried..

Who could just be in sunny LA instead of dark/windy/rainy Svendborg!

I gotta go to school.

Yeah, Asmus, I guess your right!!! Good thing I'm going back to Denmark for a couple of weeks, so I can get some good old school schooling of basics and bsos the way Lise likes it!!!!

I still start every session schooling clippers, though!!!

Hey there. I am one of LA's crew from years ago.

Have you kickd with

Big Add Chad?
Black Jack Bryan Fournier?
The Accelerator Chris Pinkus?

Just wondering if you have actually kicked with anyone in LA not just SC or SD.

Props on your progress! Do you stretch ? Do you cross train?

How far in freestyle would you like to envision yourself progressing?

Take care,
Samurai

Thanks for all the replies. Tom, yeah, we've never met but I've heard my sis talk about oyu from time to another. Some day.. maybe at worlds if I make it...

Samurai, no I still haven't kicked with anyone here in LA. Seems I've had a bit of trouble getting a hold of them. But I'll catch them after x-mas! And no, I'm too lazy to stretch even though I know I should. And nope, no cross training either, except for occasitional racketball for fun!

And how far I'd like to go... have no real ideas. When I started out one winter evening my goal was to be able to shred for fun in parks etc during the forth comming summer. Which is a couple of years back now. I don't know. I do it for fun, but I love the challenge, so as long as I'm having fun and feeling challenged, I'm gonna play. But I don't see myself going for any medals or anything.. If I attend euros or worlds one day, it's gonna be for the fun of it. I'm in it for the cool people 8)

Anyways... todays session... only 40min... pulled my left leg, so it hurts now  However, I got a lot of step schooling down. Am really loving that I have gotten the steps into my game. Almost forgetting my pixies!! Schooled ripwalk, sidewalk, attempted blur and blizzard - toed both a million times. Figured I'd school my steps by thinking up all basic clipper tricks and add a step to them, so I got stepping ss pickup going (have no idea whether that's the right term.. feels like a magellan but from the clipper).

Hit my new record of infinities - 9 or 10'ish. I've struggled with those and osis for ages, so it feels good that they're coming along finally.

Anyway.. think I'm gonna have to take a break for a day or two with the leg hurting.. It's weekend anyways, so who would want to work out??

So, I'm back in Denmark for a couple of weeks!! Haven't played much over christmas (which I spendt roadtripping in Mexico and it's kindda hard to shred in a car  ).

Had a nice session with Lise yesterday. Felt good to shred with her again. She says I've improved during my stay in LA! Yeah, always nice to hear. I hit some new things, a couple of dynos (have hit one before, but not worth posting then), some stepping ss clipper, stepping ss osis (not too clean, but it'll get there)... had some attempts spinning - gotta get started on that. Lise was rough on me as always (and in a good way) telling me to get started with spins and ducks/dives. Also attempted som double over downs and things like that.

My steps were teasing me, which was annoying cause they became pretty good just before christmas. But I guess that's what happens when you don't play for weeks and instead eat good food and become slow and fat

Already looking forward to shredding with Lise again tomorrow!!! Unfortunately the Danish scene is kindda slow these days, so we're not that many around. Looking forward to going back to LA in a couple of weeks and getting started there again!

It's been so great shredding with tons of different people over the last couple of months, because different people inspire me in different ways. That way, whole different aspects of the game appear. I love it!!!

hej anne,

when are you going back to LA?
if it's really only a couple of weeks that you're staying in denmark, i won't get a chance to shred with you. i'll be in københavn in three weeks and two days.
i'm rough on my sister too. seems that's the way how older sisters teach footbag to their younger sisters. ;) unfortunately my sister is not as motivated as you, though her motivation is getting better and she's playing more...

and props on your progress! :)

Sorry Verena, think I'll be gone by then - unfortunately!! Guess you'll just have to shred with my sister. Be hard on her

Nice session today with Kim and Lise... Just working on the flow. Working on making my low level rise a bit. As Lise said: "It's silly that you have 4add and 1add tricks in the same run... step up the 1adds a bit!!". So that'll be the project.

Got myself some nice new combos. plo>plo. blur (yeah, I'm excited about that one!!). pixie same clipper>stepping same clipper. Worked on pixie tricks out of 2add tricks - I've usually only done them out of toe delays. Hit a couple of pixie tricks (etc. dimwalk) out of legovers and mirages, etc. on both sides, so that's good...

Anyways.. 2½ hours of shredding, and I'm done now!! Can't wait till tomorrow!

Damn.. two days of crap shredding.. hangover yesterday and too tired legs today! So both sessions were cooled down to schooling.. have worked on osis and butterflies - can never become too good at these, and right now, I'm not very good at them!! Had some spin attempts, duck attempts, practiced swirls....

I guess it's pretty good for my game that I have some sessions of cooling it down and schooling things, as I've hit so many new things within the last couple of months, that I'm so psyched about, which means that I kindda 'forget' the basics!!!

Gotta school some more!!!

Man my legs are sore!!! I've had some good time shredding in Denmark the past couple of days... have worked on basic things such as eliminating my 'monkey clutch' or whatever you call it... my right hand has always been in a crazy fist... have worked on my delays, my clippers, my balance... and I have hit some nice new stuff, that Lise insisted on seeing me hit!! So I'm all ready for a good half year in california... maaaann I'm looking forward to it (except the 12 hour plane ride!). I'll be back in 2 days. Fresh legs, lots of footbag hype and so much looking forward to cali-jam!!!

1½ hours yesterday and 3½ hours today.. I'm beat!

See you sooooonnn!!!!! :D :D :D

An hour of crap footbag the day before yesterday, where nothing worked it seemed. Maybe cause I'm back in working with all the basic things as balance, clippers, arm and feet position, etc. But it seems to pay off.. had a really good session today with fresh legs... working on the basics of footbag really pays off for me... osis and butterflies, swirls bs, whirls, etc seem so much more comfortable now.

Looking forward to playing with others really soon, as my sessions alone pretty much end up just being schooling sessions.. which is also good at times, but gotta get the new stuff into the long runs.

My body feels good today - unlike the other day! So I guess I'm going for another session tomorrow - hopefully a bit longer so I can get in better shape before the jam. 3 weeks of partying with friends in Denmark does NOT help the physical shape!!!

Highlights from the past two sessions... some rarities and new tricks/combos:

flip swirl
osis>swirl bs
swirl>osis (now those two have to be linked as to make them rpt!)
osis>far osis>far osis
dyno bs
butterfly>dyno
DSO
duck
flip magellan
blender (gotta hear someone on whether or not those were clean, but they felt clean!)

I think that was it for now!

It feels like going back and schooling clippers, butterflies, osis REALLY pays off!!!

SoCali in less than 2 weeks! 8)

Good highlights! It sounds like you've improved a lot since the last time we played. That's good, because you can make up for my lack of improvement. Keep working so I can slack off more!
