Falconry

Hello Modified.

I have been reading up a lot about Falconry recently, it seems to be a very consuming, fufilling, and ancient sport. I'm just curious if any footbaggers have any first-hand experience in Falconry, or handling birds-of-prey?

Depending on future circumstance I may train a hawk of my own, the idea of hunting as a team with a bird-of-prey is very appealing to me. There must be an incredible bond to be developed between the bird and the falconer, much like a man and his dog (or a man [or woman

] and his choice 32). I have always held an interest in birds to begin with. I mean c'mon, who as a child hasn't dreamt of sprouting wings and flying? A little off topic I suppose..

I worked at a bird sanctuary for a couple summers with Peregrine Falcons.

That's awesome! I wish that my job involved working with animals. I don't know much about Peregrine Falcons, I have been looking into the Harris' Hawk, as it seems to be the best "Novice" bird in falconry due to its social characteristics. Was the sanctuary you were working at attempting to breed the Falcons back into the wild? Did you come into contact with any falconers there?

Yeah, I worked with a couple different kinds of hawks too.
Yeah, the guy in charge did falconry, though I doubt if he hunted anything other than, like, field mice. I actually should know more, since I gave tours to schools, but it was a bunch of years ago. I think it was mostly preservation of the species, since there are only, like, 7 peregrine falcons in all of Manitoba, or something. He did have a female and a male, I think, but I don't recall anything about breeding.

Peregrine falcons are the fastest animal on Earth @_____@

I found a pretty cool video "Peregrine Falcon Tribute". There's a link in that video's description to another Peregrine video where there's a camera attatched to the bird's back, giving a bird's-eye view of a Peregrine's super swift stoop. They are really neat birds, I may consider one after my novice bird!
