So i had a minor session today. I'm going for consistency so the most advanced stuff I did was tiltless and my consistency and one sidedness needs work, so it was a depressing session, but i filmed myself with my webcam and i feel like i am making a bit of progress with my form or at least coming to terms with the little things. still, i had a 13 contact string, which is on my way to 50 tiltless, but still a good way away. hope to play tomorrow! pfeiffer out

Yesterday i actually had an ok session with Doug via Skype. I didn't do too many things amazingly, but a list of things i did do was:

illusion>pickup>rpt
a 15 or so contact tiltless string

not too much else, but i'm working on it. don't worry about it. I gotta play a couple more hours this week anyway. but it was good because the illusion drill was a bitch for me. now i have it and I can keep doing it until i can move on.

So today i played a pretty epic round of footbag. i started at ten and went til about 1220. so like 2 hours of goodish play. some things i landed? well

 legover>legbeater (I know! i couldn't believe i could land legbeater and same day midstring it
 ten pickups same string, but with some toe bails
 15 mirages strong side, not too impressive, but i gotta work that consistency
 10 flip clippers
 barrage? like a near mirage with an extra dex
 a few good osii
 ducking clipper, clipset

that's about it and i need to work more on consistency, because landing 4 adds is great, but not when theyre one in ten tries. so next time i play, hopefully tomorrow, ill work that

The YEAH Report

Post by century264 »

This is kind of a report for the entire break because I never recorded my sessions with Doug, much as I wanted to. However, this break gave me so much hope and frustration for my footbag game it was crazy. Basically every other day heading into YEAH Doug and I played footbag to get ready for the big days. I started doing really well. A week before the jam came around, we found some things wrong with my clipper and did our best to fix them, just because I hate looking at videos of myself playing. I always thought my style was weird. So we worked hard to control it and form it and shape it and it went really well. Coming into YEAH, I had not 50 tiltless like I hoped to get, but just 14. That was a letdown. However, by the time YEAH was over, I had nailed about 25. I'm getting so much closer, and my string length definitely has some consistency on it now. More than 5 contacts like it used to be, that's for sure. I had an amazing time at YEAH, it was just like 3 days straight of shredding with people as high on the pole as Will Diggs. I loved it there, it was just so fun to see what people can do. a few days after YEAH, Doug found one more thing wrong with my clipper, where I gave a little hop off my support leg after I set and it threw off my balance which had been a major issue. It was the biggest breakthrough yet and I'm soo looking forward to just getting to play like pat and just chill with the bag. Before I was so much more wild than now. So yeah, YEAH was an amazing time and this winter break was a great break to progress during.
New Year's resolutions for footbag:
50 tiltless
25 BOP's
all my sets strong on both sides
truly both footed
be able to land whatever challenges are given to me, if they're reasonable

played for a good two hours today. I worked on clipper form, illusion form and string length mostly, and did alright at it, but not too well. I had about 18 contacts at most, my illusions started shaping up and i landed

mirage>illusion>near mirage>rpt
most of clipper>same butter>pickup>rpt

Wes and Scott played with me. It was a good time and pretty much just a good session even though I need to work things like crazy but I think along with BOP's when I start going guiltless i want to work head dexes into all my tiltless tricks. I really want to land

Clipper>far head>far head>far clipper>rpt

like i mean right clipper to stall on right side of head, then to left side of head, then down to left clipper repeat

hey bud, that head stuff you're talking about isn't dexes, it's delays. I like doing that stall, you should definitely work on it. how's the stitching coming?

if you want to search around and find my fatcross.wmv video from my visit to toronto a year ago, I do something like 10 back to back temple delays at the end of the video. it's on my youtube account if you search matt cross footbag.

i played for about a half hour 45 minutes yesterday but my left leg was giving me MAD guff so i had to stop, but before that happened, I worked on clipper consistency and made some great progress.

Highlights
ten consecutive flip clippers in a row back to back without stopping and allll of them were in a row
12 opp clippers

I filmed myself playing a little bit and i don't object nearly as much as I used to to my clipper form. I'm really liking them alot more now that doug and I fixed them a lot. But there's still more to work on. Doug told me about the triforce drill, where you do
clipper>opp clipper>2 opp clipper>2 opp clipper>3 opp clipper and so on until you get to ten and all the way back down. Now I did the math on that and that is 220 clippers in a row. No way am I even close to doing that yet but I think I want to try. It ain't sayin much but I got up to the four rung during the session

so these are the new bags that I've made, though the quality of the picture really doesn't show off the quality of the bags. I'm gonna borrow my friend's camera and use that soon, but I wanted to get something up to show you for now, matt. Next to the bag I used at YEAh, they're a bit smaller, but i think they'll get a little bigger as i play them more. maybe just a bit smaller than a golf ball, if not the same size

Image

And to Matt, sorry to give the wrong impression, those were two different thoughts. I really want to get good at head dexes AND at head stalls.

Had a pretty good 2 or so hour session today. Scott, Wes and Justice were along for different parts of it. I say pretty good because I landed some good things but my string length was kind of for crap.

highlights:
-ducking mirage
-zulu/diving? near mirage
-backside fear (sketchy, though)
-16 opp clippers with a toe bail
-about a 20 or so contact string but most of the others were around 10 or 12
-illusion>pickup>rpt first try!

Can't think of any others at this point but hopefully there will be more updates soon. I plan on playing pretty much the whole weekend because it seems like it's going to be balls-cold on Stowe so I doubt I'll be boarding.

had a really good two-two and heif hour session today. I had a few things that I wanted to try out so i made an agenda before hand and it really helped me remember what I was doing when I started to space out. Highlights of the day:

 symple legover back to back
 mirage>symple lo>rpt
 16 opp clippers (again, I guess that's alright but i was going for 20)
 blink on my right side (I had people check it to make sure it looked like a dex)
 symple pickup back to back
 Zoid Mirage. It was sketchy and only on my right side though
 Illusion>Near Illusion>rpt (Finally. I've been working that drill for a long time
 DA DA DA DAAAAH! I Landed Swirl! :D It was so very exciting, because I've been trying to get that for a very long time, and I was looking through the trick tips section and they told me to stick a ruler into a cupboard so you could practise dexing around that first, and that made all the difference for me. I landed 4 or 5, although none of them were really really well controlled, but I'm still thrilled.

So yeah, a great session, although I didn't work on string length enough and I think that would be a good idea before I go guiltless, but I was just taking care of symple stuff today. But I'm coming for you, Doug. Yeah that's right

I woke up today and I didn't mean to play footbag. actually i was supposed to go to Stowe and snowboard, but that didn't happen because the van never showed up. A pity in that I didn't get to board, but an advantage to my footbag. I think the theme of the winter will be that I will be waay too tired to do anything every day because I plan on playing footbag for at least an hour every day I'm not on the mountain and the mountain already kills me.

I had a good 3 hour session today accompanied by streetlight manifesto and big D for energy.

Highlights:
 bs far symp. lo
 20 opp clippers. finally. Now i need 25
 far pickup bs
 symp mirage bs
 fairy lo rpt
 legbeater (left set, right catch. couldn't do the other side. lame)
 atomic mirage
 symple near mirages
 a pretty good swirl finally

I'm really jamming on symple and symposium right now, but I've tried to limit my symposium play because I'm kind of add-handicapping. I don't want to learn too many three adds yet because I haven't hit 30 tiltless yet, and I don't want to go guiltless until I have 50 tiltless.

Oh one last thing. I was trying to drill all the different types of legovers and pickups with unified strings and I came close on the legover drill, but not on the pickup drill. these were the drills I want. If anyone has a better suggestion for it, tell me because I know i forgot sspu and sslo.

clip>far pu>pu>clip>near pu>opp clip>rpt
clip>far lo>lo>clip>near lo> opp clip> rpt

on the legover drill I hid all but the last near lo and clip

so yeah good session. From now on, though, I work string length. Until I hit 30 at least.

Cool highlights man, keep reppin those tiltless drills until you can hit any 2 add out of any other 2 add whenever you want. Also, dont worry about skoolin symposium/symple shizz just cuz you dont want to be hittin 3 adds yet. As long as your not sacrificing form in order to hit stuff then go at it, symp stuff is mad stylie. Cant wait to shred with ya again man!

Thanks alot Doug. Can't wait to shred wichoo too, gotta lot of stuff to show you. So last night I had a two hour session with Wes. It was a good time, except that I wasn't really playing great. I was kind of doing isolated tricks, and my string length was only around 12 or so, so not a great day for me, but a great day for Wes. He got atw's on both sides and a few strong mirages. I was really proud of him.

Personal highlights:
 illusion>near illusioin>rpt is getting a lot easier. It's almost like the mirage drill now
 figured out datw pretty solidly
 getting a little more consistently with symple stuff

but aside from that, no great progress. Hopefully I'll be playing again tonight, legs willing, and I promise I'll only work string length and universally good looking tiltless play

So last night I had an alright session with wes and justice for about an hour and a half. when I say alright, i mean I was just working on getting consistency ALONG WITH good form, which is a bitch, because my flip clipper doesn't like to be controlled. So nothing amazing though I think I did manage to clean up my game a little bit, and wes and justice both had some alright sessions in the end.

My highlights:
butterfly>pickup>rpt (yeah flip butterfly!)
calmer, slower clippers
quieter play

more tonight. woo!

EDIT: so I don't know if the people I play with will ever pursue footbag without me. Maybe not. but if we ever get a Burlington Crew going, I have a fun shirt idea.
