So since when are footbag trick names reliant upon the rules of grammar? 'Paradox Mirage' isn't exactly proper English...

I agree with Asmus. 'Pixie muted clipper' relates the sequence of the move, and I think it is more intuitive.

footbag tricks aren't reliant on the rules of grammar, but, contextually, paradox mirage is precisely proper english. in the language of footbag, paradox is an adjective that describes a noun, the noun being mirage.

"pixie muted clipper" : "mirage paradox" :: "muted pixie clipper" : "paradox mirage"

"pixie muted clipper" might be more intuitive, but it reflects a misunderstanding of what you're saying.

just because it's more intuitive doesn't mean it's right. Some people think "supposably" is a word. They use it instead of "supposedly". the former might be more intuitive because someone thinks "I am able to suppose that, so I say supposably" but that doesn't make it a word.

as I said almost a year and a half ago on the last page, it's not like I won't know what you mean, but it's also not like you're right.

I used to have this stupid girlfriend. we would get in fights, and she would cap it off with "I could care less!"

She was trying to say "I am experiencing the least amount of caring I possibly can at this moment in regards to what you are saying", but if she could conceivably "care less", then that's in direct contradiction with what she meant. She knew what she meant, she was trying to communicate what she meant, but the words were not doing that. If she really wanted to use the words that do that, she would have said " I couldn't care less!"

but she wouldn't. she knew what she was trying to say, and that was good enough for her.

Sooner or later, you have to start thinking about what your words mean.

I know that pixie muted clipper and muted pixie clipper mean the same thing to pretty much everyone, but, based on the words used and what they mean, one is inarguably accurate and one is inarguably inaccurate.

now, to take it in another direction, if you wanted to call a muted pixie clipper a Flibbity Flobbity Flue, that's your choice, and there's nothing I could say to stop you or convince you it's wrong.

BUT IF YOU'RE GOING TO USE THE SAME WORDS AS EVERYONE ELSE, AND YOU INTEND TO MEAN A CERTAIN THING, AT LEAST GET THEM RIGHT.

either call it flibbity flobbity flue (or any other nonsense) or get it right. Don't attempt to make sense and communicate, and at the same time, freestyle your grammar and hope for the best.

andrew, muted tap is cool. you should work on atom smasher > muted tap rpt.

now, this is all my opinion on how you should conduct yourself when talking about muted stuff. How you do it is absolutely your choice. But, just because it's your preference doesn't make wrong right, and right wrong.

I don't think you make your case.

Paradox Mirage : Lets examine this. In English, the adjective describes the noun. That would mean that Paradox is describing the noun, and the noun is Mirage. That would be very proper, exact, and informative english.

Similarly Atomic Whirl, Gyro Blur, and Spinning Osis are all proper english.

Stepping Mirage Paradox, Pixie Muted Clipper, Whirl Atomic, are imperfect in the information they convey, and require the listener / reader to interpret meaning, leading to misunderstandings and confusion.

Ok. If paradox were an adjective it would be proper English. Paradoxical would be the correct word to use, if this was really about the exactness of grammar.

But it isn't, its about commonly accepted usage.

When I conceptualize doing a pixie op clipper with no plant, I don't think about doing the dex any differently. I think about transitioning between the two components differently, hence the muted fits right in where the transition occurs.

You and Matt are saying that by definition muted refers to a plant after a dex. I think that this definition could be expanded to refer to tricks that typically have plants, but were executed without. Thus, the idea of modifying the dex is abandoned.

If I executed the dex differently I would agree with you that its a dex modifier and not a transition modifier.

EDIT: This is a dumb thing to argue about. Muted pixie clipper does seem to be the more accepted nomenclature. Dude.

I didn't read anything but the last post. transition modifier thing makes sense, though the -ed ending... forget it, I'm not here to clarify just to say I feel ur point of view now too.

pixie clipper always meant a muted move even when i feirst learned it over 10 years ago. muted is just another unnecesary word added to move names. If anything planting should be denoted instead of muted.

I once fought off a giant timer with this idea. But muting his plants didn't work so well when it came to his attacking nature. He fought with the mute before the attack, leading to a misunderstanding in thought of the place where he hit. So in conceptualized medicine, time will not begin unless we mute our own perspectives.
