After I graduate college in the Summer, I'll need a new E-mail.

know of any providers that are good at blocking spam?

yahoo sucks
university email sucks
gmail sucks
google sucks

I've been using http://www.fastmail.fm for almost 5 years and it's fantastic. I would recommend it more, but everyone seems to be jumping on the Gmail bandwagon like there's no tomorrow.

-no ads
-no pictures (means faster load times)
-awesome spam filtering
-ability to "bounce" emails
-folders and subfolders
-phishing protection (difficult to explain)

Tons of other features. I love it. Visit http://www.fastmail.fm/ and check out what they have to offer. You can upgrade to a pay account for more features/bandwith/space as well.

I let google provide my email services for www.toptrailchef.com , is free and it works for me.

What don't people like about google email services ?

I think all E-mail serves it's purpose, by sending and receiving messages. Hotmail works really well for me.

I get very little spam at gmail. Well I get over 1000 spam emails a month, but they all get filtered through. I get maybe 1 or 2 a day that don't, which is pretty insignificant.

I've used gmail, but a ton of spam didn't get filtered.

Why do you want to give me $1 million inheritance?
Why are you trying to sell penis pills?
why is your e-mail a few random words and a random link?

Tsiangkun: google was worse for me at filtering spam. granted it was 7 or 8 years ago.

If you click "report spam" on each of those emails, anything further that comes from that address will be filtered out. At first you might get a lot of spam, but that amount gets smaller and smaller until you hardly get any.

That's exactly what I did, but each new one was from a different adress.

I'm sure if I changed my gmail address, it would end. but I want to try something new.

Want to check my options. Any other sites that are good at getting rid of spam.

And you used gmail 7 or 8 ago (I doubt it.. unless it was maybe a google internal only alpha release)?

I'll tell you what's actually good about gmail:

- Searching for mail. Yes they have the whole "search thing" down pretty well. Beats any other system out there even off-line professional systems.
- Tagging. Do you really want to use folders and sub-folders? It's what I'm stuck with at work and I would trade in that obsolete system with tagging without a second thought.
- Multiple mail settings: I use some mail aliases that are transferred straight to my gmail address. my account is configured in a way that when I reply to a mail the reply-to address is automatically the one that the original mail was sent to. This is not a killer feature but I know that Yahoo and Hotmail don't allow this.
- Forwarding: for whatever reason you my want to automatically forward incoming e-mails. A lot of vendors don't allow this (to lock you in).
- IMAP / POP3 support. Hotmail used to have some kind of patch for outlook express but don't anymore. If you're a hell bent Outlook user this is very handy.

I've been using gmail since July 2004 or there abouts and they have ironed out some quirks over time to make it a truly good system. I don't know fastmail but I'll take a quick look at it.

I think my stories are blending together. Tsiangkun was inquiring about google mail, and it was 7 or 8 years ago i had one of those addresses.
