I have space for 2 - 3 more people in my room if anyone still needs a place to stay.

Well, it looks like our plans are finalized. We'll be there for two days, and it will be awesome! Thanks again to Tony for giving us a place to crash, and thanks to Richard Abshire for assuring us a ride. This truly shows the brotherhood that comes along with footbag. Be assured that when I am older, i promise to contribute as much as possible to helping other footbaggers...within reason.

Yeah, that's why I like footbag too: being part of the brotherhood.

Wow this sounds really fun. Man, the day when I miss a San Diego event! Well, when I finish training in my new job I'll actually be able to afford going places. This is one of those events I would love. I hit my first ripwalks in San Diego. I wish I could be there for this jam.

Yes, community may be a better term than brotherhood, language is a very powerful thing even if you don't realize it, especially if you don't realize it.

I think the term "brotherhood" can apply to any group/community, including both genders. All it is is a figure of speech. But whatever, sorry if i offended anyone with my language.

That was definitely not sarcasm, language is a very powerful thing. Without knowing it, and on a very subconscious level (usually) the language you use can affect others. The term brotherhood excludes women, even if most people don't think about it, it still does. It is sometimes used as a term for a group of both women and men but to do so disempowers the women, even if you don't mean it to. It's something people should try to be aware of. It's an all too common and socially acceptable thing to use inappropriate, derogatory terms. I'm just trying to bring to your attention something that hasn't been before. Think about where the language you use comes from and the way you are using it, you might be surprised. I'm not yelling at you, or telling you are a terrible person for using that term. People do it all the time, it's not the end of the world, and everybody does it, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't have repercussions. It's something that I've been trying to be more careful about in the language I use lately, I've found that a lot of words that are very commonly used that I haven't thought about before actually do have an effect.

I have a feeling this isn't going to end well. So lets just try to end it now. But anyway, after saying that i kinda thought about how i would feel if the word brotherhood was replaced with sisterhood, and your right. I feel totally excluded then. So as i said earlier, i apologize, and I'll be sure to be more conscious of it in the future. I hope nobody will get to heated up over this, just as scott said, everybody makes mistakes. So, back to hyping SoCali. I can't wait to buy a bagillion (equal to 3-4-5) bags. It'll be awesome to meet everyone to, and i can't thank the people who are giving Cale and I lodging and rides enough. The community of footbag is surely the greatest.

Cheers

I didn't say you used it, eoghan did.

Eoghan, I have no hard feelings at all, there's no animosity going into any of this, I was just trying to get the point across that language is a funny thing, and it has power. I'm not trying to reprimand you, I'm just trying to bring it to your attention. Like I said, it happens all the time, it's not the end of the world, and I'm sure I do it too.

I'm excited to get to San Diego and kick with everybody, it's coming up soon!

I don't get how this topic always feels so off-topic. :-)

It's not a big deal, I wasn't horribly offended; I have much thicker skin than that. I was just poking fun at someone using the term brotherhood because footbag is such a boy-dominated sport, but I'm in it too and so are a few other women in the country (and many more in the world). I knew what you meant but I thought I'd point that out.

The locals are trying to secure an indoor spot because apparently it rains in San Diego. Me not being from the state (originally) and having only visited SD once (I think), I had no clue. Thank you to Steve for pointing that fact out.

Not that he reads this forum. :-P

Anyway, I'm pretty excited that the jam is so soon. Don't forget to bring a sleeping bag and pillow if you're staying in the hotel and you might be sleeping on the floor (which you probably will be at least twice).
