Ha. Neat. Somehow you made my blog feel like the CIC blog. Or something like that.
Whining...
In general life feels so very sucky lately.
I really can't remember ever feeling so down over a long period of time. Like, within the past 8 years. A big part of it is that I feel like I finally have something to blame all of my feelings on -- that I'm clinically depressed. And so because of that I kind of feel like I have an excuse to be even more unproductive and procrastinating and unmotivated than usual.
I'm totally also a hypochondriac.
And realizing that gives me more excuse.
It's kind of like at this point every little thing just grates on my spirit and tears me down just a little more, and it feels like nothing really ever has the ability to pick me up... more like things keep me pacified. Well maybe playing footbag picks me up, but being restricted by a lame injury-induced trick repertoire puts a damper on that.
I was so close to actually going to work today. And of course it happens to be the one day that I wasn't called. Actually I think my "boss" tried to call about an hour ago, which is super weird, because it was after hours. (Oh, even worse 'cause my old boss was replaced and I've never met or spoken to my new boss.) Spirit Drain -10 points for feeling sucky about missing that call. I had a double panic attack around 5:30-6 in the morning. I woke up and was so tense and stressed that I couldn't fall back asleep. Just in anticipation of being called. Because of that I was uber thankful that I wasn't called and got to relax. As if I needed it, having been relaxing since Worlds. I tend to beat myself up a lot too: Leech Will Power -30 points.
So yeah. Just little things like I went to buy that bus ticket to Lethbridge and tried to get the student discount, even though I'm not a student, and the guy suspected that I wasn't and I felt guilty and stupid and on the spot. And I went and tried to find those teeny, smooth aquarium rocks for hacky filler again. I looked through, like, 6 shelves of rocks at a huge Petland, and they had nothing, and that just kind of added -20 points to Mission Failure. And I've been really bad about rent at my parents'. I owe for the past 3 months. My mom is really cool and never really hounded me about it, but I feel pretty low about it as it is. So when I mentioned that I was going to Lethbridge she brought that up and kind of gave me a stern look. Kind of like a neck-snapping smack to the face with a 40-pound rusty iron tower shield.
The flip side of that is that if I can bring myself to work for just 2 weeks I will be able to pay that off. Another two weeks and I can finally buy a new computer, etc. Once I can go once, I'm sure my mood will improve significantly, and I will feel more confident to continue going to work and all that. It's actually a super easy job most of the time, if I recall... But again, on the flip to this I will only be able to work, like, 5 days MAX before I leave for Lethbridge (oh wow, that's soon!). Well. Maybe I will be able to pay off one month and feel a little better. I've likely been bumped down on the roster for not answering my phone, which is probably why I wasn't called today. That very first day when I was called 4 times and then once by my boss, it stands to reason that she was calling to offer me a term position, since I had an impeccable reputation in the whole division up until this "semester".
But yeah.
So that's my rant.
And I feel a little better.
I picked up a peach green tea bubble tea, and that gave a boost to my manna levels.

That's fine Kevin. Your post was nice. I don't know why you changed it
I still haven't gone to work, but things are looking a bit better. Today I was all prepared to go again, but the job I was called for was at a school where I had to deal with a terror child two summers ago, and gave up after the first day when I said I would stay for an indefinite term. So that was awkward and I wanted to avoid that school from the start.
Another thing is that a friend sent me a job advertisement for, like, a DREAM job. For a circulation/shelving assistant with a salary equal to a starting librarian. So, like, HOLY! It's a government job, which means great benefits, plus there is no, like, certification required, which means I not only qualify, but that I am perfect, since I have worked in educational libraries (it's for an educational division of the city's government!) and perfectly fit every one of their qualifications. I am VERY excited. Problem is deadline is Friday. I just spent a few hours writing an incredible cover letter, and am getting my girlfriend's mom (a linguist) to edit it, but I am going to Lethbridge for a couple of weeks on Tuesday... so... I'm kind of hoping they don't contact me too soon so that I don't have to cut my trip short (and then potentially not even get the job). But yeah. Wow. Incredible opportunity there.
I was also JUST called by the automated system for a term job (yay -- the thing that I love about this job that I have been procrastinating going to!) that will last almost all month... But again... there problem is that I'm going away on Tuesday! What terrible timing! I paused the system message and just was, like, "NOOOOOOO." I can't believe it. What luck.
I'm feeling hopeful though.
Not much to report.
I may play hack tonight.
I'm waiting to see if my friend still wants to go skating or not. We've been bonding a lot lately, and it's really nice to have someone close to. She's like my only real friend whom I've been able to talk to about practically everything. She's also the one who set me up with my girlfriend of almost 5 years.
Here's a drawing, though it's not a great likeness. Another with some music notes. If anyone goes looking at the music, I'm not a pro at writing, I've never even done this before, so excuse that I didn't perfectly fill out the bars. Like.. maybe one bar has an extra eighth note or something, 'cause it was too much work to figure out exactly how to split that up, when it's mostly for self-reference anyway.

I wanna draw and play hack now.
Also maybe stitch? I'd chosen some Valentines colours for a bag a couple days ago.
EDIT: Got another work call and have finally committed to a job on Monday, so that's something.
Oh yeah, and I ended up uploading that clip of lots of ducking clippers, so that's something footbag-related: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=iGbyxl0AXCc
And here's something funny my brother showed me while I'm at it:

I like how your markers look more like watercolor than markers Erik.

Thanks guys.
Oh yeah, and no, I've never hit reverse whirling reverse whirl. I should have tried that tonight.
So yeah, I played for 30 minutes and recorded some runs with my digital camera for YouTube, a la Ken Somolinos. I put up 5 clips. Here you can see the "gallery" where you can select them all in new windows: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?u ... rifice&p=r or whatever, or you can select these individual links, a la Ken Somolinos:
Part 1: 68 contact tiltless warmup
Part 2: 32-contact run; osis stuff
Part 3: 30 contact run; dive clip > dive mirage > duck mirage > dive mirage > duck clip [repeat]
Part 4: 20-contact run; more osii -- the 4 stepping moves, ducking BSOS, peeking BSOS
Part 5: 15-contact run; some neater non-bail tricks
Here's a little thing I wrote on the side of the first video to explain the context:
Inspired by Ken Somolinos' YouTube diary of similar ilk. I have been sustaining serious footbag injuries since May 2004, and have not been able to truly play to my potential since. My most recent injury in my lower leg has been undiagnosable by my specialist (similarly to my initial hip injury back in '04). As far as I can suppose, it must be extremely severe shin splints? In any case, I have only played a handful of times since October of last year.
These clips are from a 30-minute. This clip was my tiltless warmup. I guess I was in a rush, since I was planning on going out right after. Rawness after the session proves that I played harder than my body wanted me to and that I should have warmed up more than this one run and a handful of kicking.

Shred session: 080209
Man alive.
I just had the most hardcore session I've had in, like, 1/3 of a year!! I played virtually pain-free, and that was so intense. Like earlier today I felt raw and I wasn't even sure if I was going to be able to play at all! I warmed up, expecting to really only play tiltless, and way less "hardcore" than those videos I made (which were quite lame in their own right). I started doing spinning ducking runs and slowly weeding out bails and just going.
There were a few times when I felt a little tenderness and I tried some strengthening and stretching, and it seemed to get rid of any problems. So I kept kinda doing actual "dexless" runs that I would normally do. I even threw in a few pixie moves and some blurry rev whirls.
Then I started doing some drifters, and then vortexes, and the mobiuses. It felt so good. I hit vortex BSOS some times, and with some mobiuses in there too. I double BSOSed mobius and dropped on a super good marius attempt (still never really hit the move) Uhhh.. Some other highlights:
-double spinning clipper BSOS
-double spinning clipper > ripwalk (almost other side too. Got off the set)
-double spinning clipper > diving ducking clipper (may not have hit this?)
-diving ducking clipper BSOS (Andrew said the second was really clean)
-diving ducking clipper x2 (Andrew didn't see the first one, but said the second was SUPER clean, I think..)
-a run with blurry ducking clipper > stepping rev whirl and blurry ducking clipper > spinning rev whirl
-a 69-contact run of, like, just spins and ducks. Like maybe no bails.
-63 contacts of that incremental ducking clipper > spinning clipper [repeat] drill (a few less than last time I tried it, but still prolly my second best go).
Some gyro DLOs. Lots of mobiuses, lots of BSOS on that.
Some stuff I started getting too into it and tried stuff way too high impact and Andrew called me on it, which helped remind me to tone it down. Like I tried spinning rev whirl > blurry ducking whatever. And what really got me excited was having alpine mobius roll off a TON. It should actually be pretty embarassing how many times I tried and never hit it. There were so many times that I, like, knew I had it and it just didn't come back up to me. (Oh both sides too... at one point I realized that I could alternate sides on the attempts, and it didn't make a difference
Kinda like Anssi.)
It was the first session in SO long where I was truly able to push myself on certain concepts. Oh yeah, I was kinda close to 69. I did some sumos, and meant to do more of that but forgot. Prolly good, 'cause my hips got a bit tender from the drifter stuff (I think I tried some vertigos and voids too) and nuclear is sucky for weak hips. So that's good.
After the session I was virtually pain-free.
I know I will be super sore tomorrow, but that will be from working muscles I haven't worked in a long time, not from super crazy high-impact landings or anything. Though I may have gotten too carried away. Mostly I feel I will be stiff in my neck, and my back. I'm so happy that my shins feel okay right now. And my knees too. My knees were so wrecked yesterday. I went to a Sonata Arctica concert, and they were 2 hours late! The standing just killed me.
Best time I've had in ages.
Footbag feels sooooo good.
So yeah, I'm going to Lethbridge on Tuesday. We're planning to go to the gym together a bunch, and I'm very excited to play hack in a gym! And maybe spread the word of hacky to a teeny city.

Congrats on the good session. Its important to have a satisfying one every now and then, and you definitely deserve it. Good luck spreading the hack. I know I actually play better with people around me, especially non-players because it all looks the same to them. I'm self-conscious the first run, but after that I think the exhaustion rids me of it. Who knows, maybe somebody will approach you. w00t

I played hack yesterday.
It was good. I'd been hoping to play in a gym, and maybe I still will some time, but it was "nice" out apparently, and so I tried playing outside here in Lethbridge. It was pretty cold... I made video again with my digital camera, and wrote about stuff in the YouTube entries, so I won't bother here. I guess I only uploaded some highlights. My runs were pretty short overall, 'cause of the temperature, but some stuff I did was:
-sumo BSOS (not new, but haven't done in like 3 years)
-Pdx torque BSOS (same deal -- these two were kind of just in lame runs, so I didn't bother uploading video)
-Double spinning clipper > blurry rev whirl
-Diving ducking clipper > pdx torque
-Double spinning clipper BSOS
-Spinning ducking run
-Spinning ducking clipper drill
-Diving ducking clipper x2
-Porque
-A non-descript run
Here's a link to the main page where it shows all the videos: My YouTube link

Love the video highlights. Also just generally happy to see you playing again. Have you ever hit double spinning rev whirl? DSC to bl. rev whirl is inspiring... I'm gonna try something like that next time I play.
Oh, and the shredding with gloves look? Hot.
