Awe Time

Post by QuantumBalance »

For this example, we skip conception and gestation, but if you really wanted to factor that in, you could. You do the math though.

On the first day of your life, the length of the day was 100% of your life.
On the second day of your life, the length of the day was 50% of your life.
On the third day of your life, the length of the day was 33.3% of your life.
On the fourth day of your life, the length of the day was 25% of your life.

etc.

As you grow older, the length of the your day becomes a smaller fraction of your life. So, while in reality, a revolution of the earth around the sun may be mostly constant, according to our perception, time passes faster and faster.

This is also combined with the fact, that as you grow older and learn more, you start to take things for granted. Then, you spend less time in awe and in wonder, and more time thinking of the next task. Your future becomes part of your present.

So, try and be wonderous of all the little things you take for granted.

Awe? Yea.

AWWWW YEA!

Being sober is actually sorta cool. Peace!

One over the number of days you have been alive.

For example, each of my days is 1/9125 of my life.

So .0001096 percent of my life. So each day is easily perceieved as a lot faster. Thats why old people say life flew by so quickly. Anyway, I think the perception of the passage of time could be slowed down by striving to remain thankful, happy, and in awe of life.

---

I only calculated to my last birthday which was 50 ish days ago, but chu know!

Lol the good news is the older you get, the slower the accelleration of time becomes. Lol, but thats just wacky cuz its still accellerating, just oOoOoO... not as fast! lol

GO ENJOY YOUR FUCKING DAYS! LOOOL

Funny. I've been thinking about this a lot lately, the relativity of time and whatnot. Not in the context of stopping to smell the roses, though.

Cool topic.

thanks for sharing sam
Your next task: Go to the bathroom.
Wash your face.
Put your shoulders hunched upwards.
Look really, really slowly upwards towards the mirror like in the movies
And slap yourself in the face.
With your game face on.
And go shred with jim.
It'll work, trust me.

Claiming that we percieve time to pass faster just because we have been around longer is like saying that each hotdog I eat will be less filling, tasty and satisfying than the last one just because I've eaten more.

And I completely disagree with this statement:

That is a rediculous assumption to make.

I think you may have missed the message he was getting accross.

We all perceive time quite differently. When you were a child, agenda didn't matter to you (on the most part), so you were able to freely experience every moment.

The fact that "time" is strictly perceptive is apparent in many of the sayings involving time itself. i.e. , "that test seemed like it lasted forever", or "man as you get older, time really flies". Those are 2 examples that say it all.

You assume "time" exists because your life has been governed by what we know as the "atomic clock". A mathmatical equasion that tells us how much "time" has passed.

But haven't you ever been in a rush and waiting for someone. It almost seems like they are moving no faster than your average sloth. Now take any really exciting experience you've had. Didn't it seem to just fly right by you? In both of these instances the "atomic clock" ticks away at the same rate it always does, but you are perceiving the elapsed "time" in a different way.

As you get older your mind does get cluttered. You lose the ability to freely experience every moment. There is just tooo much to think about. What Sam is trying to say, I believe anyway(correct me if I'm wrong), is that it only takes a moment to experience the moment. And the better you get at this, the more "time" you will have to truly enjoy life. This is the way of the peaceful warrior

There can be no meaningful division of time because it is a continuum.

And since time is a completely relative and/or subjective thing to experience, I will have to disagree with all of your generalizations.

Time does not pass faster and faster. There is no speed of time. It's just there, a necessary property of existence.

Yeah I agree with James and Ollie.

Also all these statements like; "As you get older your mind does get cluttered," "according to our perception, time passes faster and faster," etc. are just rubbish.

I would state it like this. If you're somebody who has done so much acid in your life that you're probably permanently brain damaged then you'll perceive everything about the world in a strange way, but that doesn't mean everybody else does.

Ya'll aren't backing up your statements. Prepare to get owned.

Tweedle dee says there can be no meaningful subdivisions of time (which I agree is a continuum) yet all around us there are human created perceptual subdivisions for worker bee synchronization. I never said that actual time wasn't constant. Score well in reading comprehension? I think not.

Tweedle dumb says he cant perceive things in ways that he has not already been conditioned to... Again, and again, and again. I would have at least expected you to try and back up your statements. At least make this a challenge. If you can prove to me I'm wrong, then I'm all for learning something new, unlike you who cant even digest new ideas unless they fall within your comfortable paradigm.

Repeatedly you add to meaningful discussions with your antithesis of stated opinions that is permeated with closed mindedness and being set-in-your-ways. It is both frustrating and unproductive. I impart ideas to people who are receptive to them, in hopes that we humans can slowly evolve towards a more enlightened, meaningful future. But, of course, the equal and opposite (and thick headed) reaction comes along and balances out the universe.

Thanks antimatter, if we ever meet, maybe there WILL be an explosion.

God your kids are gonna be the same fucking way, and then they can argue with my kids, who will at least understand why your ideas perpetrate, but cant see the beauty in you, because its such a boring shitty existence where everything is your own stupid way, and there is no room for change or learning.

Frustrating....

But I suppose I shouldn't let your 3 attempts at meaningless unsubstantiated GARBAGE oppinions, detract from the fact that I am opening peoples minds without drugs.. with ideas.

You fucking thought the earth was flat back in the day didn't you? You thought eclipses were Gods wrath and not flying hopovers... I mean celestial shadowcasting. Oh well, its whatever. Its hard not to be mad, but I guess I should feel sorry for you, since you have continuously maintained your half reasonable states, while I and others like me slowly creep forward in our understanding of existence. Enjoy your fear of death, cowards.

Yes, this is personal. And personally, I wish your existence was separate from mine. But, I realize this is a nice test of my patience and humility and barriers, which I still have to work on. But I'll still post this because you deserve it. Fuck it, a little anger gives me drive to find ways to shoot down your weak memes with stronger ones of my own.

So, please, go ahead and drivel some more. Lets see what you got. Cuz right now,

you just got owned.

ps I'm only 4 days sober, you better step your game up for when my head REALLY clears out. Also, just because you can't see something, doesn't mean its not there, idiot

Sam, I think we would really get along. This is my fifth day sober, but my understanding of time has nothing to do with that :P .
As you get older your mind does get cluttered," "according to our perception, time passes faster and faster," etc. are just rubbish.
Saying that your mind doesn't get cluttered is pretty egotistical. "I'm fuckin perfect and never think of the problems in my life". Pffart.

Although I don't agree that time passes faster and faster. Every single moment in time is experienced at a different rate. Like I said, you assume that "time" exists because it controls your life. Once again, another age old saying: "The watched pot never boils". Now you can choose to believe that this is because you are the observer and are thus controlling the fate of that therrrrr pot, or that it just seemed to boil in slow motion.

Haven't you ever been absolutely starving and then someone told you, "dinner'll be ready in 20 minutes" , but those 20 minutes were unbearably long?

These are just 2 different examples that reinforce what I said in my last post, but you can never have too many examples for the closed-minded.

I'm not saying that some people's minds don't get cluttered. I'm saying that it's wrong to make such a statement about everybody.

You can't make those claims about everybody. That's what is ridiculous.

Do you think the Dalai Lama has a more "cluttered" mind than I do, since he's much older? Or do you think everybody is different and such statements only apply to some of the population, not all of it.

I would say that my mind was much more cluttered over the last couple of years than it is now, and I'm much more single minded and focussed right now. I wouldn't have the arrogance to say that because I'm like that, everybody else is, which is what you and Sam seem to think.

I also wanted to express my lolz at the close minded insult. Can you explain how I am close minded?

This is your position;

Everybody who gets older has a more cluttered mind than they did when they were younger.

This is my position;

Different people behave differently. Some have more cluttered minds as they get older, others do not.

My position actually has nothing to do with "mind clutter? whatsoever, I was just backing up Sam.

My statements are more gearred to the way we perceive "time".

So maybe next time you decide to try and dissect my statements to find the holes, use the points I'm actually trying to make.

This thread isn't called : "awe, mind clutter", it's "awe time" right?
So stop bitching for bitching's sake.
