Affirmative Action

i know this can be a touchy subject but it came up in one of my classes and i wanted to get some other peoples opinions

along with just knowing about whether your opposed to or for it and why, i was also interested in knowing if this was an issue in countries outside the U.S. and how those people view it

i used the search but i did'nt find anything, sorry if this is a re-post

I think it really depends on the exact circumstances, rather than being able to generally be in support or opposition to it. If I had to make a general statement, I would say that I definitely support affirmative action in principle, but only in the right circumstances.

I think there are a lot of things that are painted as "affirmative action" but are really not. For example women make up over 50% of most Western populations. There's no evidence to suggest that men or women are more intelligent than each other, or better leaders or managers. Yet that said, women make up minuscule numbers as CEOs, Managers or Politicians. Employing a woman into those jobs is not "affirmative action" but rather a statistical likelihood that about 51% of the best person for that job is going to be a woman.

I think affirmative action should be determined solely on economic status. It seems pretty obvious to me that affirmative action has worked, and as much as it stands in the way of a lot of other things I believe in, I really have nooutstanding ethical issue with a poor fellow with a 3.3 getting picked for college over a rich fellow with a 3.4
