Weighted tape

Post by jpaige »

Fixing the holes in my bag with tape made me wonder if anyone has tried adding lead tape or another type of weighted tape to some of the panels of a bag either on the inside or outside. I'd think it would increase the weight of the bag without making it too full with regular filler. Well, making bags a few grams heavier to change feel may be personal preference. Personally I think it would be easier to play with or perhaps train with?

Who makes dirtbags anyway? Like why do these companies keep churning out footbags but you never see them at tournaments? You'd think they'd try to tap into our market somewhat even just for research purposes. Ah well.

They use lead tape to weight tennis racquets. Im pretty sure a majority of pros use it. I didn't think about the wobble. That would be pretty crappy.

I had thought of the filled panels before, it's cool to see that company actually makes one, I think I might buy one just to satisfy the part of me that wanted one to exist.

I think anything with lead should be avoided, cool idea or not.

I made a bag like that a long time ago. I didn't know it was that revolutionary (the pocket filled thing).

Cool! :P

I could probably do something like this for a 14-panel, or something similar to the 12-panel that has been mentioned from World Footbag.

The problem is what filler to put in those panels with the patches sewn onto them. Sand is the likely answer, but there's a majority of other things that I can think of. In any case, it would result in a very awkward feel. And I think it would only be good for kicking, not freestyle.

There's nothing wrong with how bags are filled in general. You just need to find the correct fill ratio that you feel will make your bags feel great. I never had a problem making bags feel less filled - it's about what resources you choose to implement.

As for the tape thing, I've done this a couple of times with patching tape as a backing. It's decent. It doesn't add any weight in particular, but it does add a stronger foundation in a way (at least for fabrics that are feasible to over-stretching busting holes quickly). The only problems are the time & rate of break-in are affected, and uneven sewing that can be apparent when using patching tape as a backing.
