Shred Mats

Can anyone recommend a mat used for other sports that's good for footbag?
Do any large department stores or worldwide chains carry good mats usable for shredding?

What types of detachable flooring are good for shred?

Does PlanetFootbag still sell their shred mat? For how much?

Is anyone interested in selling their shred mat?

Jorden- IF you have a big major hardware store in your area (Not like canadian lumber) but if you have one that's equivalent to the U.S. stores, LOWE'S or HOME DEPOT, they sell the mats that Richie and crew use, and that I have been using and I honestly love them. They're 4 for 16 bucks American here, and you usually need 16 of them for a good open shred spot, though you could try and get buy with 9 or 12, may as well test that out for yourself. Hope this helps!

Oh P.S. They're called 'puzzle mats' I think, and they either come in gray or 1 red, 1 blue, 1 yellow, 1 green. This will help you look for them if no one knows where they are in the huge warehouse.

Yeah I play ont he shred mats Chris was talking about. They are amazing. Don't play on anything else. This is all we use down in San Diego.

I was thinking more of a rollaway mat -- like a one-piece that you can carry around. Mainly for busking, so people know where they can and can't walk.

It also beats getting your shoes and bags covered in pigeon shit and phlegm.
Maybe that's just my city...

Hey Jorden,

I've checked the typical Walmart, Zellers, Home Hardware stores, and the only mats that they have are the ones posted by Ben in the second link.

However, I was thinking maybe something like this,

Kinda steep in comparison to the puzzle piece one's though.

I guess I might be interested in getting something other than the square puzzle piece mats, which are sort of a pain in the ass to put together. So, if you want to cut shipping in half then I would consider buying a mat.

I don't think you can ever stop people walking through the shred area. People Ride there bikes on our shred mats all the time. It is really annoying.

check out the other posts, there have been many requests concerning these stylish planetfootbag-mattas.

planetfootbag could still produce these shredmattas, I think. I mean we could produce anytime (a polish company is fabricating these mattas).
at the moment it's all about quantums though.

planetfootbag sold mattas in the past. (many clubs in switzerland purchased one, though they were pretty expensive. for a shredmatta 3m x 3m you pay like 400$, shipping not included)

as far as I know, the guys from zurich used mattas from a building site. in switzerland carpenter use these kinda material to protect their workingarea. so watch out for mattas at building sites or ask in a "do-it-yourself-sotre"

Thin carpeting is pretty cheap. The kind they use in offices. Might as well buy a bunch, cut it yourself to size, have someone make you a nice sturdy tote bag similar to those yoga mat bags, and when it gets too dirty or ripped, get rid of it and cut a new piece. If you're really particular, they also will finish the edges at most carpeting stores to make carpet into an area rug. If you're performing on pavement and if the carpet is big enough, it shouldn't slip.

the puzzle mats are effective at keeping people out of the performance area, light enough to be carried a mile or more by one person, and can be assembled quickly.

The only problem with it is the top surface can be a bit slippery, but I turned it over and it works great.

Also, because the top surface can be a bit slippery, my wood deck doesn't provide enough friction to hold it down. So I had to get some high traffic carpet tape, now it's solid.

On the plus side, it feels great to play on, it leveled out a few boards on my deck, the light color lets me use my dark bags, and at night it reflects a lot of light, so I don't need much to illuminate my area.

MAN my knee has been killing me!

I broke down and just order some of the same matts Chase. I just clean my garage so have a huge place to put them. I can't wait. (well my knee can't) They are way cheap for that many Sq. ft. I hope I can go longer with out bithing now. I'm not down with playing through pain.

they help prevent knee pain pretty well, speaking from experience though, you should take a decent break from kicking and let that knee heal, then go back at it. about 4 months into my game i was having some serious knee pain. Without thinking about it I kinda took a month break, now everything feels great. If I start to overplay my knees or back I can feel it right away and take a break for a couple days to keep it from progressing. Playing through the pain is only detrimental...
