How long do your Rod Laver last?

I think my first pair of Lavers is dead. I had them for about 7 months now. I feel I have got my moneys worth from these shoes. I have played in them pretty much every day since I got them. I didnâ€™t know how to lace them or modd them until after this past words. I did that as soon as I found out how to. That was a month after I got the shoes. I hated them before I modded themâ€¦.But love them after. I got a back-up pair in the same color. Now Iâ€™m sad I have to use them. I canâ€™t find red and white mesh lavers anywhere. I paid full price for both of the others off eBay. Butâ€¦..Thatâ€™s why I was wondering how long do they last if you play everyday? I know if you play in them every once in a while. They will last for pretty much ever. Did I abuse mine or get my moneys worth?

Mine first pair lasted around a year, but these last pair have lasted almost a year and a half already? But I don't walk in them at ALL, only for shred and I honestly haven't had as rigorous of a shred year as my first year. The pair I have now are so choice, hopefully I got another 3-6 months of hard shred left in them.

I know I'm not the norm, most people's probably don't last longer than 6 months.

My first pair of lavers lasted 10 months or so.

What's wrong with your current lavers? Do they have holes in the bottom?

The toe box is starting to rip bad

......and I have a part of my sole on my right foot is coming apart. I guess if is from chasing the bag to the ground. Plus I did use to do alot of walk overs with my foot on the ground. I would post pics, but they are coverd in shoe goo right now.

spray paint

, razor blades

, grass stains, clay mud from a clay mound in the park near my house, duck crap

, bike chain grease, skateboard grip tape and concrete tearing holes into the mesh

and sand were all detrimental to the longevity of my lavers.

I had them for about 3-4 months until i got quantum02's and just threw them out, plus they were too small for me after my feet grew a bit. I have a new pair that i treat very well and they are looking like they'll last a very long time.

I feel like you got your money's worth. But they could have lasted longer with a little more care. I treat mine a lot better now because I'm tired of persuading my parents to get them for me.

If you're walking in them, you should not wear and shred in the same pair of lavers for more than 6 months. Once the sole can bend entirely (touch the toe of the shoe to the heel), the support is gone. I don't know how much of a difference that will make if you're just shredding in them, but if you're wearing them all day... you need new shoes. If you wear shit-kicked shoes all the time, you're putting alot of unnecessary stress on your feet that can lead to problems -- putting you off the game while you recover. Good shoes are important.

I still shred in my first pair of lavers. They are almost exactly a year and a half old, for the first year I wore them to shred and walk around in, but somehow they still don't bend from toe to heel and I can shred fine in them.

They've lots of coloring from sharpies but they'll last some time still.

I'm trying to decide whether I should mod my new blue leather lavers or keep shredding in what I have

Here is a few pics of my old Lavers. Almost retired.....But a little shoe goo and a few more days. Well crazy with the goo!! Plus the GOO made my shoes way fun!!! I put on some cheats. I don't have a bunch of crank yet

. I see improvements everyday. But nothing to brag about. But with a little goo I'm doing osis for the first time and tricks out of clippers. Fun Fun. I played for 4 hours in them because they are so much fun. I hope the goo holds up for a little while. But I still know it cheating.

I also posted the pic of my freshly modded shoes. I still don't want to wear them. The modding came out perrfect. I got all the canvas out and the other layer fabric. These red have three two layers.

That's a pretty big rip on the toe. Are your feet too wide for Lavers?

Yes..... I have wide feet. They hurt if I don't mod them. I wish they made wide lavers. I went up in a size. But they did not feel right to me.

Maybe you should try CT 300s or 520s. That's just my opinion.

520s are more commonly found than the 300s, and they have them in black.

Are these what you are talking about? These are wide shoes and have a day left. I think I may try them. How do you mod them? like leather laver?

I think you just cut the stitches restricting the toe flaps and that's it. I hear that further modding (like cutting out some surface material) will only make the shoes fall apart after a good session or two.

And believe me, I've seen a person who wore CT 300s with very little fabric left on them (toe, inside, outside). Matt Cross might know who I'm talking about, because it was his old room mate at Rochester and he used to hack.

I don't know what the conversion from Rod Lavers are, though. You might want to contact Richard Abshire, Henry Griese or some people in the San Diego, California area about that.
