Mark and Rob believe this to be a new trick.

Footbag videos and footbag related videos such as takraw, freestyle soccer, etc.

Nice, I saw a small circle at NYJ two years ago with Jorden, Henry, and some other people doing similar stuff but I don't remember seeing that particular trick. You should try and work on linking tricks of that style together :D

Don't want to be a dick, but I wasn't impressed at all. I don't see how this can be incorporated in anyone's game.

Enjoy the props you got from Matt Cross and Jorden Moir. But just because they thought what you hit was impressive does not imply that I should have agreed with them, does it ???

What is up with me sucking you dick? I know for a fact you wouldn't have the guts to tell me that at a tourney. Next time please watch your mouth and think twice before you make a post.

I expressed my thought regarding your invention. I was honest to you and believe that what I wrote was just another opinion that you could take into consideration.

Good luck incorporation that in your game, it would be interesting to see more videos.

YO,
First of all, thanks for taking the time to make a post at all.(seriously)
Believe it or not, I welcome critique. Oddly enough you would probably be surprised at the size of my "guts", and this blog doesn't make my balls any bigger than they already are. i would have told my best friend the same thing I wrote to you. As far as telling you at a tourney, if you mean because you'll kick my ass at shred, I honestly welcome FRIENDLY rivaly, but if you meant that I should be frightened of you in some way, thats funny because you got the wrong guy..
If you meant the first, then cool and I hope one day we can shred together and fuck with each other in person. If you meant the latter, I hope you change it to the first.
Not everything can be worked into a routine, but Im working on it!
Peace

Why did I ignore the tiny suspicion I had that this thread could turn ugly?

Ok, my thoughts:

I've always been of the opinion that "I don't want to be a dick, but..." is a dick way to start a statement. That said, Sergey's opinion as he expressed it is perfectly valid. I agree; I can't imagine that trick at the beginning of a run, midrun, or at the end of a run. If a trick's capacity to be incorporated into one's game is your criterion for likability, you shouldn't like this trick. Fair enough, one opinion out of many.

Mark, you're out of line with the tone of your last few posts. I've known you long enough to know that you would say such a thing to someone in person. Indeed that's what concerns me most.

I of all people appreciate the want for the community to laude the novelty of a trick I'd conceived on my own. But I've told you, the community is starting to get away from that line of trick accreditation. Or even if they're not, they won't line up and say, "Yes, this trick's yours. What may we call it?" So call it what you like and those who dig it will call it that too. I will. And if it doesn't catch on, whatever.

Also, name dropping isn't going to get you far when anyone on the forum can plainly see who's given you props, and especially considering you've met neither fellow whose name you dropped. Furthermore, one of the most appealing things about this sport is the overall lack of animosity and rivalry, friendly or otherwise. Lastly, I know that it's the internet, but we keep this forum family friendly. Let me advise that you keep the aggressive statements for in person.
My favorite trick is knowing when to pass.

Mark,

I guess I am the one who should take my own advice and think twice before posting a comment like my first one. Letting you know that I wasn't impressed with your invention doesn't change anything but makes you feel bad. I can totally put myself in your shoes and see why you got upset. If somebody did something like that to me, I would feel the same way you do. I really mean it. Mark, I apologize for being negative and promise to be more thoughtful next time.

I wish you best of luck with the new concept.
I think it's great to see you moving forward and trying to make the sport better.
I thank you for creating this thread for I learned something today.

Rob,

Thank you for taking your time to post that.

I have a hard time understanding how someone can appreciate the innovative concept of ritualistically re-enacting such abstract concepts as footbag tricks and not appreciate new innovations that reinforce, contribute, and ultimately evolve the sport. This sport is very much the most creative sport I have ever played or shown an active interest in. Footbag both in its athletic and and constantly evolving nature depend on creative concepts to grow.

I recently read a description of the furious set as a whirl motion somehow integrated into a quantum-like motion. Arguably this trick could not be explained this way (or perhaps should...?!) but because of these two unique concepts a different audience is able to understand and develop a new one. Who can say which is more important.

Specifically, this tick addresses very physical concepts, being rates of change and momentum. Much of footbag can be refined using a combination of biological sytems, physcics, common-sense (which I am sometimes short in myself), intuition, etc. By developing such concepts as this one, it allows for integration of new challenges with which new strengths and key-references material can be used to enhance ones game, ideas, trick selection, and ultimately evolve our sport.

Thank you for this. I was not going to share my enthusiasm, because I respect those participants of this sport that empathised more with the athletic nature of it current state, but this sport was created. It is creative. It has evolved out of ritualistically kicking an object. Who decides when an act that clearly excels within the current accepted parameters of a sport is useful? He just did. Nice footbag trick buddy! Thank you for investing in my favorite sport in your own unique way.

Sack-ramental Thought

Post by GrizzleChin »

LOFA, you layed down some deep footology. You are like the Buddah of the bag. I have mad respect for your opinion.

I'm with the Shaolin Sacker in congratulating Mark on his creativity and striving for originality. He did not post his video to boast, but to reach out to his peers for assistance on making his mark on the footbag scene.

Critiquing is important to the sport. However, to degrade someone's efforts without offering a positive perspective of bettering their performance warrants hostility from the concept's creator. Props though on the retraction and the sack to admit your fault.

Rob, next time, try not to be the uninvited gay dude jumping in between an argument to tug on two guys' beef.

Mark, much love man. I'd throw poo with you any day. Keep doing your thing, bro. Don't hack too much though, you might put your eye out and get hairy ankles.

just a warning to the inventor of the cool trick,

no matter what cool thing you do, someone in the footbag community is going to tell you that they don't like your stuff. I'm not saying that it shouldn't bother you, but you're going to give yourself a hernia if you respond like that to everyone who says they're not impressed. Stay bigger; how about, "thanks for your input. hope you like my next video better"?

one important part of footbag is that we all give lots of critiques. as I said, just a warning.

I disagree. Sergey was simply mitigating, or softening his comment. Like, for example "please let me through" is more direct (hence rude) than "I don't want to be rude, but please let me through."

I think that if Sergey would have said flat out that he wasn't impressed without saying I don't want to be a dick, but... I personally would be more offended.

But now we are just arguing over linguistics, and I do enough of that here in Japan.

I just thought of a way to try it midstring. This would take a lot of tries, probably, but it's conceivable...

toe stall > 2 bag juggle > catch both bags on the same toe > plant the foot with the bags on it and use the other foot to rearrange the bags and maybe squish them a little > my balls > hand catch 1 bag > string on

not exactly what you'd call the traditional definition of "string", but this isn't exactly a traditional footbag trick. it does require some prep, and the flow isn't the greatest, but there's continuity to it.

you could do it in a routine that way, at least.

just a thought.

good luck with all your future attempts at my balls.
