Abshire's Boot Camp Day
Today, me n my hubby kicked at Abshire's n Damon's house. Richie was helping me with swirls. My legs got tangled as I tried to attack the move with both legs in the air too early and unfortunately landed on my left ankle and screamed in agony. OUCH!!! I've never felt that type of pain before. I had to sit out the next hour while my ankle got iced and Richie then focused intensely on Matt. He kept telling him to tense up his abs. Matt kept hacking up a lung in and out of his runs and kept spitting up yellow crap that years of cigarettes kept in. Moments later, he passed out! It took about 5-10 seconds before he regained consciousness. I can't believe Matt worked out 'til the point of passing out. (Has anyone else ever done this???)
After resting a bit, we both still tried to kick later in the day. This day definitely felt like boot camp but we laughed at ourselves in amazement of what we're willing to go through to get to the next level.

Is your ankle bone bruised? You know, the area where your outer ligaments/bands are located, where you can bend your foot out? If that area is yellow/purple/blue and is swelling, I think you should go straight to the foot doctor and get it checked immediately.
It might be permanently damaged. Your description of your injury sounds pretty nasty.

I wish I thought of that...

Pfft. I didn't go to a foot specialist when I seriously sprained my ankle a year ago. I just iced it, had plenty of rest and took a lot of aspirin. You live with whatever past mistakes you did. I didn't see a specialist until a year after my initial injury, and in that long gap I've had a few stupid injuries on that same ankle.
I have permanent damage/strain on the outer ligaments of my left ankle. I'm also flat-footed, so I have to wear orthotic insoles every time I play. I also have to wear an elastic brace every time I play (as recommended and required by my foot specialist from my recent check-up). But hey, no use complaining, no use whining about past mistakes. You play with whatever cards you deal; just be careful with whatever you do.
If you're going to get good at footbag, get good at footbag. Don't let anything get in your way. Just take care of your body; it's a temple after all.

Footbag is only fun if you play well. So, I say training hard is the key to keeping footbag fun.
I played football for a season in high school. Was the training fun? Heck no. Was it fun to play and win? Heck yes.
That's how it is for every sport. No pain, no gain.
Passing out and landing on your ankle is never good though.

Amateurs practice until they can get it right.
Professionals practice until they can't get it wrong.
No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Yes....I'm pretty new to the sport. I quit smoking and started footbagging instead. So I can relate to the coughing up your lungs. Never passed out.... a little light headed for sure. I also belive no pain no gain too. Not spained ankles kind of pain or passing out. But pretty much when I learn a new trick here comes a new pain. Just from moving my body in a new ways. My muscles pretty much ache for a day or two after. Knock on wood nothing hurt to bad yet. Now that I'm a little older it take longer for me to stop hurting. That's why I quit skateboarding after my knee operation. I thought footbagging would be a little better for my knees (not much).

Wow! He passed out!?!
Where was I?
Richie is intense sometimes. Just 2 days ago I did an 'Abshire Boot-camp' with 4 and 5 add moves. By the end of the session I lost 6 pounds of water weight and hit 46 out of 52 unique 4adds (one at a time guys), and another 14 or so out of 36 5 adds. I could barely walk and my shins were on fire. But I hit like 4 new tricks that day - so I can only complain about the intensity of the session.
Next-time: Tell Richie to drill Flip Bed-Wetter for you. haha Then watch him pass out. jk

Its not intense until you're puking!
But seriously, I think pushing someone too hard isn't the smartest or most responsible thing to do, especially with footbag. You're bound to give them shin spints or a stress fracture. As they get more tired, the chance of injury rises exponentially! We're talking rolled ankles, knee injuries, or foot injuries. Plus muscle memory will start learning the bad, tired form. If you're tired, quit. Fight another day.

1. I said nothing of competition.crazylegs32 wrote:quote "Footbag is only fun if you play well. So, I say training hard is the key to keeping footbag fun." BUT- you sux at football, have zero chance at nfl so how did you have fun??? Having fun and being competitive are mutually exclusive. Dont confuse the two.
2. You can play well without being a professional, so the NFL analogy doesn't really work.
3. If I played football for fun and couldn't catch the ball and fumbled all the time, it wouldn't be fun. Similarly, if I'm not doing well in footbag, it's also not fun. So, how do I keep playing well? Training. Thus, training makes footbag fun.
