every shred session is a pleasure. ogden is a maniac. bagi's style is redonkulously smooth. growth is constant & keeps everyone's spirits high.
i'm learning more about the nature of components, and their subtle relationships.
this started with noticing how much my atomics improved naturally without training them, by training fairy sets. i've never worked quantum that much either, but upon starting a few sessions ago, they came pretty easily due to a strong pixie set.
it makes me think more about jobs notation than component names when playing with 2 adds, especially the dexterities.
toe game is advancing steadily. it's always been a big weakness for me, with pixie tricks & pdx mirage being the only toe related tricks i was comfortable with.
i'm working on increasing the amount of clipper > toe guiltless transfers in my repertoire.
i've been having a lot of lucid dreams lately, moreso than ever before in my life. i wrote this in the middle of the night a few nights ago after waking from a series of strange dreams:
"i have no control, aside from emotives. bearing witness to strange landscapes, i freefall in a half awakened state. tall, foreign & seemingly ancient architecture surrounds me & i hear a rumbling deep beneath me? no, around me. i understand that i am at once in my bed & calm, yet not & terrified. i can't tell which way is up. i enjoy logical perceptions, but my brain winks. i cannot take the hint.
i am in a kitchen. there is blood on my apron. i pull the knife out of my friend & watch the man walk away. i turn the corner only to see his ankles disappear as the back door closes. i trusted him for a series of instants, even after the moment of truth. my friend looks at me, questioningly. the wound is gone. my apron is clean. rats pour from above.
i wish i could control my limbs. it would make my calmness more acceptable. all i can do is continue to breathe, mind & body entirely segregated. the world is rotating 180 degrees in alternating directions, yet i'm not growing dizzy & my vision is clear. i just want to move. i feel comfortable in my unease.
i am back in my room, but it's not my room. then i'm gone again. freefalling in place. i hear whispers, but they aren't saying anything. seems appropriate, since we were never introduced. this place is lifeless, but i know that isn't true. something else is dreaming here as well."
i think i've been reading too much lovecraft.
shred soon.!

great sessions lately.
at a short shred with john a few days ago i hit 5 5s in a guiltless string:
blurry whirl bsos, tomahawk bsos & a paradox blender.
just weighed in for the first time in a while, i'm down to 174lbs. game is improving as my body gets lighter.
note to self: swirls & dlos pls.

who is the person who stabbs the other person. am I involved in this sequence? tell me!!!!!!
Hey, I had this thought today and I tried calling you all day about it. To no avail. You, Derrick, and I should have a footbag study session together. I'm cool with it being at my house. Essentially it's going to be vids of Vasek, Jorden, and Jim that I can play in premier and hook it up to my TV. Put it in slow mo and seriously study the shit. Talk about it, look for consistencies and patterns then go out and try shit that we've learned. What do you say?
Peace

no cuts for you. the person on the receiving end of the knife was an old friend of mine.
i dig the study session idea. we can make it happen, possibly on the weekend? were you thinking of watching vids for a while right before a session? if so we can plan for an afternoon. or we can shred then make with the imbibing of intoxicants. may defeat the purpose, but most likely will just make it more intense.
shred today, or is your back still broken?

Response to dreams: You rack disciprine! haha, j/k.
yea that was good times with the drinkey drink & the watchey watch. i'm glad i could provide some entertainment!
i'm at a weird spot in progression atm. i hate my toe game with a passion, but clipper game is solid & progressing quickly. i think i need to spend some serious drilling time on toe 3s for a while.
i worked swirls for almost an hour last night & they were feeling much more natural by the end of the session. ended the session with a new bsos combo. i was dead tired by the end, my carbs had been low that day.
more to come...wednesday shred?
edit: weighed in at 171 lbs. 3 lbs lost in a week. i think that's unhealthy. MOAR FOOTBAG PLEEZ!

good session last night! mangosteen gave me the power of the gods...or antioxidants. same thing, right? free radicals are rebels without a cause.
i just read an exciting passage from my hero, michael colgan, on the topic of free radicals & the relation to athletes. essentially, athletes can expect up to 4 times the amount of free radical damage compared to an ordinary sedentary individual due to the increased stress put on the body. so antioxidants are a fairly essential component of the athlete's daily lifestyle to combat the constant damage we are doing to ourselves.
Coenzyme Q10 is hotness. increases circulation & combats free radicals.
Mangosteen is hotness. And tasty to boot. with a value of 30,000 on the ORAC scale, it pretty much trumps everything when it comes to antioxidant power.
i have broken from my previously set trend as of late of concealing things that i have hit, notably when i posted the 5 5s previously. i try to remain calm but sometimes you get excited, ya know? haha.
i like the philosophy as it lets you surprise people when they don't know what to expect. however, there is also value in sharing progress in a community, which is a big part of what makes modified great.
i hit some new 4 -> 4 links last night that made me happy, and will soon lead to some new repeat combos. i also hit blazing butter bsos first try, both sides felt pretty good. hit my flip pixie blender. pixie dyno seems phat in my head, i will try that on saturday.
peace y'all.

holy shnikes i'm drunk & that was an epic session!!! everyone played really well! john's stepping is really, really good. his toe game is even better! and hitting 5s all over the place.
both john & i hit food processor! it was a first for me, not sure about john. it was also my first 6. rawr!
before that i broke 2 records in one go...my blender record & my frozen blender record. haha! 8 frozen blenders. delicious!
derrick...is crazy. he footed BS Bedwetter a bunch of times, and did a really clean leggy null set which fooled me for a barraging set at first. he also hit legeater to double switch! and tons of strong guiltless strings with 5s. good shit compadre!
we played outside for the first time of the year. that first string outdoors felt AMAZING!! it gives me hope that there is an end in sight to this HORRIFYING winter.
i am being accosted by more alcohol. SHRED MONDAY.!

WE WILL KICK ONE DAY. More decisively, LATE SPRING.
SINCERELY,
G-RAY.
ps. glad you enjoy the flava. ) i will make it out to montreal this summer, for serious.
TOM
YOU ARE COMING TO KINGSTON, aka, AWESOMETOWN. i am conserving my energy stores for 3 days of consecutive body breaking foot athletics.
GRASS you say? I'll see what I can do about that. I'm moving at the end of april, fundage may be scarce for me.
SINCERELY,
ROC RAIDA.
there is some crazy shindig going down at the new K Rock Centre at the beginning of april. 4 nights of ridiculousness in the form of hawaiian dancers, strongman competitions & XTREME Sports ( skateboarding, bmx, b-boy, you know the score ).
soooo the KTown Hackyslackers are crashing the Xtreme Sports night to throw down on april 4th! should be good exposure, several thousand people will probably show.
i heard a rumor on the down-low that this crazy event is actually a religious recruitment directive focused at the young people of today. makes sense, as the admission is free. NOTHING IS FREE. watch out, they might backdoor your soul!
in all honesty, hey, it's all good, more power to ya, good luck, and keep giving me free entertainment.
laters!

highlights, 03.17.08:
started off the session with an unexpected 1.5 hour solo shred, as the others didn't check all the rooms in the centre we play at before settling in themselves. so we ended up playing in separate rooms about 10 feet apart, haha. i hear john was calling my house looking for me.
it turned out to be a mini blessing in disguise, as the solo practice really did me well. i worked on some things that i don't normally work on, & started drilling some new components.
cleared the dexes on both sides for toe barrage & started working barraging set. it felt pretty good but like derrick said i need to bring the set closer into my body. i hit gyro mirage bsos first try, then footed vortex both sides.
i came very close to my 2nd 6 add, spinning pdx blender. i could taste it! the spin was clean, the whirl was clean, just missed the shoe by a few inches.
what else? atom smasher bsos! & blur > legbeater bsos...mayhaps rubberman isn't too far off.
for a 4 min song, i did 2 mins of osis > ss clip rpt, then the last 2 mins was the same thing, but with no plants. felt very good for endurance & balance.
pixie same osis > pdx drifter both sides. all osis tricks felt particularly good last night, i kept them all much closer to my body & felt less baily than usual.
torques are getting better. same with illusions. double dexes in general still elude me ( not shuffle, but the no plant doubles ).
this summer is going to be insane. once the weather gets nice i'm gonna need to carbo load like a motherfucker because i don't think i'm gonna miss a day.
edit: 169 lbs.

me and you are like exactly the same weight. what are you doing that i should be doing to drop some crappy pounds?
Good session the other day. I would like to say that you have officially become a key member in our crew. I felt your presence yesterday. Me and Derrik were playing (in the room beside you) and we were all like "wanwanwan I can't play footbag unless greg's here" then you showed up and we started playing as a unit. Just thought I would share that with you.
Anyways, would you like to do another editing session sometime soon? I've got footage, and questions.

I see you wrote OOPS on my notepad, but I didn't see a list of what you eat every day. WHAT DEW YUUUU EEEEET SIR! was my pen stolen entirely in vain?!
one thing that i didn't question you on was how much fibre you are getting in your diet.
a part of the natural aging process is a slowing of the metabolism. now, it's a bit too early for your metabolism to be slowing down per se, but you may have had an overactive metabolism during youth that is now normalizing.
if this is the case, then top priority to balance your diet is fibre & digestive enzymes. alfalfa is super cheap & very very good for digestion.
i switched from eating Vector to Fibre One as a cereal choice. i feel SOOOO much better since adding fibre to the mix. i'm getting about 40-50 grams of fibre a day now, & i feel like that alone has caused a few pounds to drop.
it's a disgusting fact, but the average sedentary individual carries around over 10lbs of aging bodily waste in the intestines due to a lack of proper maintenance.
next time we shred i will lend you a text. but yea i can't give you any more recommendations without knowing what you are putting in your body already.

i had a crazy idea with regards to "playing as a unit" in relation to presentation, specifically aimed at the GX International evening on April 5th.
it's not so crazy an idea really, but here goes. combine oldschool & newschool footbag in our circles when presenting for a crowd. this would require a lot more coordination between us as a whole.
the main oldschool concept i would be interested in exploring is "FULL HACKS", & also to randomize the passing of the bag. so instead of a "String" being one person's set of contacts, it would be the entire group's set of contacts. so one person could do 4 or 5 tricks then pass the bag. the next person might only do 2 contacts, which could be something like flying clipper to osis pass. the bag might go back to where it just came from for a few more tricks, then the third person might do 10+ tricks before passing to complete the Full Hack.
this would overall make the presentation less predictable & the group more fluid.
one thing i noticed a lot when i used to play in vancouver is that there is a slight cultural divide between the common person's understanding of oldschool footbag & freestyle, in that freestyle is sometimes viewed as being a more selfish version of the game.
this style of presentation would be familiar to those who recognize hacky sack, but provide something new in the form of high difficulty tricks & links. also, full hacks = less drops = more wow factor from an audience's perspective.
on the subject of editing, yea we can set that up. weekends are generally pretty good for that stuff, except for this weekend. we can talk more when we shred.

@ Royal Military College, 4 HOURS. marathon session, it was like a tournament day. RMC has amazing facilities. we were playing on this rubbery springy mesh that was used for the indoor track. it felt so good to play on & probably contributed to why we were able to play for so long.
it was awesome shredding & hanging out with tom this weekend. there was a ton of energy in the circle. we would alternate between 1 touch & 2 bag 1 touch, which really got the juices flowing. i learned a lot from watching tom's style these past two sessions. everything is very well centred.
i'm not sure what will be in the video & what won't so i won't list any tricks that were hit, except one ( haha ):
