This is not a topic for just men, though I really don't expect any women to put forth their opinions on the poll question. I just don't see it happening. If this were a men's topic, it would have been called, "Head or Sex."

The only thing that's innappropriate in this topic, is all the negativity. You're like politicians... the word shit makes you cry, and sex is "disgusting." I'm clearly not the one that needs to "grow up."

Sounds pretty innappropriate to me... Pornography/nude pics aren't aloud on the site... at least I wouldn't think they are. Care to explain yourself out of this one? Are you hoping that we have a serious discussion about this topic?

Was I persopally hoping to have serious discussion about it, well no, I didn't start the thread and nor do I have any intention of participating other than as a mod.

As a mod, it seems to me that the intent of the thread was to get serious discussion of the topic and was clearly suited to this section of the forums.

You're right the discussion section is not a place a place to get around censorship issues, but it is a place for discussion and this thread certainly includes and asks for serious discussion. I don't see how it isn't obvious that this thread should be in discussion more than any other place o nthe boards.

Furthermore, the discussion section is less moderated than the other forums and that is made explicit in the discussion forum rules (which you should know as you wrote them) - clearly there is greater room for things that would be inappropriate elsewhere on the boards.

Dyalan, use your judgement. So far nobody has attempted to have a serious discussion of the issue apart from the person who created it. Do you think this topic will suddenly generate some serious discussion? What will that serious discussion look like?

And, as you say, if this wasn't moved for censorship reasons, the fact that this subforum has less rules is completely irrelevant. If you moved it here because then it would abide by the rules, clearly it was moved here to get around the rules.

As a mod, perhaps you should gauge the public feeling about this topic. Nobody is participating in it, and lots of people are complaining about it. If there was a poll created that was; "should the "Oral... Or Sex?" topic be locked; yes/no" which result do you think would win? Who owns this forum and who should have a say on what is appropriate and what isn't?

For the record, I've never had a naked woman as my avatar, and I never will. I'm clearly one of the strongest feminists on this forum and the promotion of women as sexual objects is something I'm strongly opposed to. Nor do I find sex "disgusting." However I believe that in all public social situations a certain level of decorum should be maintained. This topic is crude, indirectly sexist, and completely unnecessary.

Polls aren't "discussion."

The discussion forum was set up with the specific purpose of giving the people who wanted to discus serious issues a place where they could do that without having their topics hijacked by idiots not attempting to add anything to the discussion. It was also set up so that the people who didn't want to read serious discussions could easily avoid those.

However the forum is clearly used as a place to put things that simply breach the forum rules. There are numerous topics in this subforum, and indeed the majority of new topics, that are not about serious issues and do not involve serious discussion. They are completely in breach of the spirit and description of this subforum.

The idea that this forum be the least moderated didn't mean it was not moderated at all. Topics and posts that cross the line as what is socially acceptable should definitely be deleted. The idea that this forum be less moderated only meant that people were allowed to express their opinions on serious issues, even if they have a very offensive opinion that would not otherwise be tolerated. For example somebody might assert as fact that black people are lower down on the evolutionary tree than white people. Such a view would be completely wrong, and breaks the forum rules regarding racism, but in the situation of serious discussion, it is more beneficial to know what somebody actually thinks, than to save offence. The rules were never intended to allow discussion on any topic imaginable. When I wrote the rules I foolishly assumed that people would know what is socially acceptable and what isn't. This was a failing in my behalf, and it's terrible that this has resulted in the moderators using this forum as a way of getting around having to moderate. If that's what they want to do, perhaps another subforum could be created called; "socially unacceptable" or "teenage discussion" or something along those lines, and all the rubbish topics that are clearly not serious in this subforum could be move to those.

And Jeremy, you are not "god," (I know you don't believe, but you know what I mean.) you do not determine what is socially acceptable, and what isn't socially acceptable.

What's acceptable in one country, may be completely unacceptable in another. And as stated earlier in relevance to this topic, the site is an international website, not just Australian.

You're saying that posting racism is ok, while posting a serious poll question about sex isn't?

Racism, sexism, both are just as bad. And my unintentionally sexist topic, "women..." was against the rules? (According to you and countless others.)

Again, you contradict yourself. Why don't you pick one story, and stick to that one story.

By the way, I severely doubt that a racist topic would stand very long on the forums...

Firstly I'd hardly call that post 'destructive'. Secondly, if you made this thread you're just asking for these sorts of responses and you'd be stupid to think you'd get otherwise. I went to the botanical gardens with my friend today and we juggled and it was really fun.

We also walked around and did an inspection of all the places that would be good to have a root (omg its like my dream to root someone in the tan).

This post doesn't directly pertain to the topic at hand, but I wanted to say it and I knew it didn't deserve its own thread (or does it? "Best places to root outside" sounds like a good one!).
