Montreal Footblog
All montrealers!
I'm gonna be in Montreal from Tomorrow (Thursday) to Monday. I want to shred, and I've contacted as many of you as I could already about it. I just wanted to say that my cell phone is
905 - 703 - 4160,
And 905 703 3394 is my friend "mike"'s cell phone, just in case I can't buy minutes in time for any of you to call me.
Hopefully I'll see you all soon!
If memory serves me correct, Ianek told me there is no indoor place to shred on weekends. If Friday doesn't work out, I'll do anything to find somewhere.

Shiat I'm sore from playing footbag!
That hasn't happened in a while, feels good.
2 hour sesh with Jay yesterday and it was AWSHOME.
He hit atomic torque right in front of my face. Yikes! I wonder what his game will look like a year down the road, us ol' timers can't keep up anymore!
I played decent myself (still just getting back into the swing of things), and this little session motivated me alot, Jay has so much enthusiasm for footbag and it rubbed off a little
SOOOooooo hope to shred with les montrealers very soon, I'm ready to show my face again.

Montreal = best city for footbag in Canada? I'd vote for it.
Day 1.
Matthieu.
Mathieu, my friend Liam and I played in the old school room, where we all played decently. Mathieu surprised me the most, because he became 100% more consistant from NYJ, where I had seen him play last. His runs were pretty varied, even throwing in random PS whirls here and there. Of course you can expect gyro DLO's, Vortex's, Assassins and the usual out of him. He began the session with a smog, as his first trick if I remember correctly, and nailed a spinning motion to end the session too. It was a shame that he had a broken toe to deal with, as his balance was a bit off apparently.
I played ok I guess. My favourite highlight was at the very end, I learnt how Mathieu hits vortex's, which I am determined to mid-string-all-day-long now. As well, I hit ps whirl both sides within about, 10 tries each side after Mathieu helped me along with each try. Damn what a sexy feeling trick. I am one step closer to having as sexy of a move as matt cross does...And everyone else, but I'll assume PS whirl is Matt's trick. Sorry.
Day 2.
Mathieu and Sebastien.
We met in (sp) Jouliette train station, where Mathieu lives very close to, and we had a circle of first Mathieu Liam and I, and later Sebastien came.
Wow Seb is good.
His warmup run consisted of high guiltless/tripless shuffle, which later progressed into some other insanity. It is all a bit Hazy, but my favourite run from him was either a double dex run(which apparently could have been better. BSOS'ed pixie paradon, blurriest, blurrier and in another run he bsos'ed SUPERFLY) He also had a great eggbeater run, which, if memory serves me correct he got bedwetter and ps egg bsos. His spins are desperately effortless, where he just turns on a dime with such ease. I think seeing him spin will help me learn them properly. He is such a solid player, and his double dexes are just, well, you all have seen them.
Mathieu played similar to the day before, hitting some weird stuff here and there. By weird stuff, I mean guay/inside tricks, randomly mid-string.
I played coldly. It was a tad bit chilly in the train station, but definetly warmer than outside. It snowed terribly that day. But I hit some good runs, I think I bsos'ed far swirl, blender, torque and fairy mirage in one string one time. Other times my runs just, were very repetetive which annoyed me. I hit some new tricks, my favourite being a PROPERLY done torquescrew. None of that refraction crap, a pure sexy dyno. THANKS mathieu for showing me the footwork on that. I also relearnt flails from Sebastien, who did them oh-so-effortlessly.
Day 3.
James.
So, I wake up and read on the 'fizzied (which finally got back up....grunt) that James was able to play, and contacted him accordingly. I went to his awesome apartment building, and we got to play near a pool which was PERFECT, as the humid atmosphere meant that you could warm up very quickly. He was excited to be able to play Super Smash Brothers Brawl, which I thought was awesome.
Despite his critical-ness towards himself, he is a good footbagger. His emphasis on style and form is very precise, and it shows. His runs aren't boring, because everything must be done uniquely, no osis->butterfly, no smear->dimwalk, but rather osis->zooming pickup or smear->tapdown. He also has good looking spins, which allowed his runs to look cool. He got ps whirl b2b first try, which looked effortless.
Irish Cream what?!!? It came up in conversation, and he humbly said "I can do that trick". After a couple of tries, it flew upwards off his foot in a fashion that said "I indeed can do that trick" to me. Kick ass.
His alpine game also is very good, form wise. Every duck is curled right around his neck, which made me realize as to what people meant when they told me "don't set so high". He can also do a WIDE variety of sets and downtime tricks, namely having deep double downs. Thanks for explaining those to me
I personally played well I think. It seemed that my sets were consistant as ever, and yes as said above, hitting atomic torque, first try in my entire career was kinda surprising. I was more excited to hit little apple bsos for well, the first time seeing as I learnt it that day. While it isn't a hard trick, it just makes me feel SO much closer to big apple, one of the cooler footbag moves.
All in all, James really inspired me to have more, cool links in my runs. I shall master zooming as well, as I have just discovered it's greatness.
Gyro osis->mobius from James was cool. Quick change in momentum.
Did I say doof? His knee's shouldn't be allowed to do that.
The one trick I completely forgot to hit was flail, but other than that every concept I could think to hit mid-string I did hit. We experimented alot I guess.
THANKS everybody, you guys made for a great trip to montreal. If the montreal jam doesn't happen at the same time my exams are taking place, I will try and make it for sure.

Hello Montreal!
I miss you guys
I will be heading there in about 2 weeks. Will anyone be available for some shred?
I arrive on April 3 about 5 pm. That is a Thursday. I understand that you guys only shred on the weekdays at the NDA.
If anyone is available, when would be best? Thursday night? Friday afternoon or evening? Sat or Sun? I leave early Monday.
Please let me know!

We can shred in metro stations if NDA is closed, not a problem.
As for the Kingston crew, you guys are welcome at any time. When you say you cant come the weekend of the 5th, is that your departure date for BC?
If not I suggest coming when there is better weather to play outside, if not, then we can play at NDA on weekdays or metro stations in weekend due to cold weather..
Up to you guys!

Hey,
I leave on the 20th of April. So maybe we can push this to mid April that way we could play outside. When do tam tams start up? The weather should be good mid April, I hope.
I love how footbag players are such keeners about escaping and playing outside. I just picture us as a group of tad poles bursting out onto the land to show off our new skills. What? Footbagging tad poles? I'm going to bed.
G'night

I played with Marc the Shark today!! It has been probably around 4 years without a kick from Marc Sayer with me.
He was still hitting all his best tricks.. Atomic ducking, symp whirling swirl, even is first barfly, and close to ps egg.. Too bad he quit footbag he would have been so good.
On my side average session, like all of them lately, Working a lot on drifters I guess. finished the sess with a run including void and spender, almost void bsos too!
The scene is quiet, only the 3 Mathieu's and Samuel playing since Ianek and Seb are gone. Kolo is injured again.
3 more weeks for my europe trip!

Well now the scene in montreal is pretty calm as Mathieu and Ianek are at worlds. Not it's pretty hard to have 1 session with montreal guy's every week haha. Well, there still kolo who play sometimes, but not that much
. It will be nice when Mat and ianek will be back! I will show them my new tricks lol!
East Coasts are the last weekend of September in Maryland. Hitch a ride with the net players or come down in your own car, but come!
2 Years Later...
Wow it's been a while since this thing was updated! I'm surprised to see it's actually only on the 4th page, i would have thought it would have been buried in the double digits by now.
Today was the first time I've played this decadium, and it felt just great to be able to shake my fat ass around and sweat profusely for an hour. It's supposed to be a hot summer - good. I plan on taking full advantage of that and really getting my game back on. Fuck this "I'm too busy" deal, I don't like not playing and that's that.
Technically, I was shabbier then I've ever been, but because I've been moving around a lot (2-3 hours walking / day) my cardio is not as terrible as it could be, and my form on the basics wasn't so bad. I've decided to also bite the bullet and work on my flipside which has been haunting me since the dawn of the dinosaurs.
I warmed up with 2s and 3s and pretty much stayed at a very mild guiltless level for the duration of that little training session.
My 2 biggest worst tricks, if we really break it down...
1 - Flip Toe Stall
2 - Flip Clipper
I mean, I could argue that I can do this or that, but realistically, even shadowing the moves can feel awkward, like a practice kiss on a dog. I remember Yax always telling me to bend my support leg, and scoffing him off and hitting strong side pixie tricks instead. Man, his voice just echoes around in my head when I play now and I could just kick myself for not listening to him sooner.
See, back in the day, at least in my little footbag world circa 2001-2002, both sides was just starting to surge into popularity, but I didn't really get it, so I just focused on my own thing. Then, when it became clear that it was the way to go, I had already developed so many bad habits that unlearning them had become this monumental task that I pushed to the back of my mind.. I'm a good procrastinator.
Still, all is not lost, I felt zenish doing my little drills, and I NEED to be able to play at a reasonable level for MSJ. The goal is: Every other day playing for the rest of.. what, my life? MINIMUM!!!!
