Todexon routine
Great routine!
Like you said yourself, it could have been executed better (but then again can't they always), but there were a lot of things I really liked.
During the intro you you took a few steps forward with the bag on your toe. This went well with the music and gave you great stage presence, which I think is important when starting a routine. You did this mostly with leg overs, so maybe to improve on it you can do something similar with walkovers from an inside, or possibly just mix it up with other simple tricks ending in toe (illusions, stepping leg over, etc).
The zooms rocked.
I also liked how you looked up and acknowledged the audience during the routine. Specifically before and after the datw (which was perfectly on beat), because it also catered to the music. In my opinion I think it was overdone here and there, but I think its something different judges care more or less about.
The spinning segment also rocked.
All your routines seem to have a lot of great energy to them and this one is no exception. Nicely done.

hi jim
i watched your routine and was thinking about it. it wasnt as good as i expected it to be better. this routine was levels behind the one you used at worlds imo
i didnt like your zooms in this one too much they seemed uncontrolled . i know your zooms are better then what i saw in that routine.
its a good start to a good routine but i think it needs a good amount of work still.
sorry if this seemed mean or something, i just didnt want to say lol jim penske it must be good lolol.
EDIT: you can take this with a grain of salt if you want. im not the best player in the worlds and i know you are much better then me. i just wanted to give you my 2 cents as a friend

I think this is a great topic, it nice that we are staying on point and having such an interesting discussion!
Jim, here are my thoughts on your routine:
What I liked:
-The music. I've known this song for many years, but I never really considered it for a routine just because I wouldn't be able to keep up with the paste. You seem to do very well!
Both you and the song are pretty aggressive and that's how it's supposed to be I guess, the audience were loving it man!
-Zooming stuff, swirls and symposium whirls were fantastic!
-You had a very good contact with the audience. In my opinion this can't be overestimated.
-You didn't give up and did everything to save the bag from that first drop, that deserves respect!
I just deleted "What I didn't like about Jim's routine" because you already know it, why say twice?
Thank you for participating in the competition Jim, I enjoyed watching your routine!
EDIT: Jim, I believe if you had spent more time getting ready and practicing the routine prior to competing, you would have done a lot better. I guess, since you are very skilled, you are mostly relying on your skills when competing and sort of trying to bullshit your way thought the music (in a good way of course). I have properly competed once in my entire life (Worlds 2005), but I still believe that a great amount of time should be dedicated to practicing a routine. Just my opinion Jim, I am not telling you what to do, everything below EDIT is just my assumptions and thoughts.

what i liked:
the intensity of the music, while i wasn't a huge fan of the music it's self. well choreographed shred. the musical cues, how you timed tricks to the music was well done. shred during fast music, slower tricks during slow music was well done. i felt what you chose to do fit the tempo well. You opted not to do the "mandatory 2 bag juggle" and i didn't even notice. use of stage space, moving with your butterflies. pausing with single tricks was nice, giving you a chance to catch your breath while still keeping it entertaining. You engaged the audience without doing that stupid arm thing people do where they flap their arms out by their sides while bending their knees like they're doing a curtsey a bunch of times through out the routine, you know what i'm talking about. it drives me nuts and it doesn't look good. You did one or two arm throw-outs, but not arm flaps, and it fit with the music and was more agressive, like "oh yeah? well wait till you see what i do next!" as opposed to "okay, i need to catch my breath and i need reassurance, so i'll do this for a 3 second count and you guys will clap politely."
what i feel needs improvement:
number one is variety- now, i only watched it once but the down time moves you did were, clippers, atws, legovers, mirages, swirls, whirls, rev whirls, barflys, osii, and a dyno. spinning, pixie and stepping were your only sets. pickup, illusion, dlo, eggbeater, drifter, blender, atomic, quantum, fairy, nuclear, furious, ducking (i don't remember if you did any) and alpine moves are all things i know you can do well but didn't make an appearance.
I feel routines are broken down into a number of parts, with choreography and execution obviously being major ones, but showcasing your abilities, what you can do, and presenting as many concepts, sets, downtime elements, etc. on both sides into your 2 minutes is another important factor. watching the same few tricks being hit over and over gets monotonous after a while, regardless of how well they fit the music or choreography. try mixing in a few more elements if you can.
while the zooming was a creative and very cool direction change that was effective in keeping my attention, it's not something you often see in routines, it was the only thing that really stood out for me creatively. every thing else was very "run of the mill".
alot of your other combos were broken up quite quickly with what i felt were out of place bails and 2 adds that didn't belong. however, you did say you were having trouble finding your balance throughout the routine, so these may have been necessary bails to keep the bag aloft. the swirls were all done on one side, and over used imo. maybe find something else to mix up in there a bit, or use both sides. this may have been a safety thing, but when they are being done that much on one side it really stands out.
hope these comments are helpful and that you'll be able to take something away from my observations to make your routine even better.
