Damn you Pete!
That rules, Pat! I just handed mine in earlier today, it didnt come out the way I hoped but whatever. After the teacher looked at the draft and said it didnt relate to the subject matter enough, I kinda lost interest.

Ok, I know I've said this before, but this time I remembered how I figured out stepping that one time.

So yeah, just had a REALLY good session. Man, I wish I coulda played like I did today when Bob was here. I didnt play bad per se, its just that my strings were really lacking and everything was just kinda off. Bob asked me to hit spin clip>ripwalk>rpt which i hit when no one was watching but I didnt say anything cuz it was iffy anyway. Aw well. But yeah, in case you havent seen any of the videos from his blog he's really good. He just started practicing stepping sets a couple weeks ago and it already looks like he's been doing it for months. Everything was just really clean and precise. So yeah, if you get the chance, go play with him, haha.

Anywho, everything was just totally ON today. Warmed up with a really long tiltless string then moved onto a relly long bop string. I didnt count either, so I figured, "Ok, a good indication of how my game is today is how many tries it takes me to hit 20 consec infinties." ..... First try. 8) Just a few highlights include:
-gyro clip>rev swirl>rpt>handcatch>:D
-gyro clip>spin clip>rpt>string>divng clip>duck clip>rpt>string
-osis>duck clip>drifter>rpt (I hit this several times actually and once midstring 8O )

Lots of other good stuff, but like Ive said, Im gonna try and post less highlights so it doesnt seem like Im better than I am. I'm really excited about stepping again. I forgot why I stopped attempting it after I figured it out so many months ago but whatever. Now that I know what Ive been doing wrong I'm gonna try and drill a lot more stepping stuff.

Peace

good to hear about the stepping, man. You're too fast not to get back into dialing that set.

hey am I understanding some of the posts I've been reading about the BSC that you won't be taking a train into Albany and pooling over to GRASS with me and Jason? Are you just going over with Pete and co.?

it's cool either way. pax

Calf pains, shin splints, and 3 new blisters later...

-level 10 of triforce drill
-37 infinities (new record)
-pdx drifter bs
-ducking clipper>rev swirl>rpt

Yeah, those are the only highlights I have out of a near 2 hour session. This was a very frustrating session. I didn't intend to do anything other than these two things but I couldnt even do the second thing I wanted to. I hit 37 on my second attempt and figured my intended goal of 50 wouldnt be too hard. Little did I know that my legs had other plans. I must have hit at least 1000 infinities averaging about 20 every attempt. I must have punched/kicked the wall about 6 or 7 times. It was ridiculous. :x

I guess on a positive note howver I did really work better infinity form , there were a lot of attempts where it seemed like Id be able to go to 100 but then I'd just get unlucky or drop b/c I could tell I was going to drop and didnt do anything to stop myself from dropping.... if that makes sense. It's like some kinda mental block thing or somethin. Idk.

The last two highlights were just done at the end of the session so I could end on a positive note.

Whatever, I'd rather have a frustrating session than no session at all. I always feel guilty when I tell Pete about my sessions whether good or bad and then realize he hasnt played in months. Sorry about that man. I know how maddening it is not being able to play for a long period of time.

Actually, for anyone who does read this, you'll be happy to know that Pete and I had a session yesterday and he played really well actually. He's working his flip clipper like whoa and it's toally gonna take his game to the next level when he starts back up for cereal.

Pretty dees sesh..... yeah i said it.

So yea, played for a good 2 hours. Fran was there for the first 1/2 hr or so and then had to work. Prolly best that way, I only ever hit cool strings when Ive been playing alone for a while. There were a bunch of cool things I hit. Lots of spinning and ducking/diving shizz. Osis was really on today, which in turn made torque really on. More on than usual. Lots of dynos and drifters. whirls. rev swirls. Just my usual stuff but everything was linking togehter better than normally. Twas good. Hmm, I guess my best 3 strings were:

-drifter>dyno bsos
-spinning clipper>whirl>ducking clipper>whirl>rpt >string
-infinity>osis>drifter>rpt>string>gyro clip>whirl>rpt>string

Those were prolly my best strings, but my favorite link was drifter>rev swirl>torque. All three concepts in that combo felt so clean and controlled when I hit it, twas very satisfying.

There's a concert tonite that a lot of kids at my skool are going to featuring ludacris, the roots and the toots. Im not too big on rap so instead Im gonna stay here and write an essay. Whatever, maybe if I get done early enuff I'll find something fun to do. Hopefully someones streaming so I can procrastinate this thing.

we need to play way too much for our own good this summer so you and I can get over that whole "I only play well alone" thing people find themselves writing in these blogs.

drifter > dyno is so nice. I need to try that. Props.

Later THE TANK

edit: we need to have a ustream session. Tell me when you get the opportunity.

Yo Doug, don't forget about your stepping set and atomic set, they looked ready to come out and be good components for you.

spinning clipper > ripwalk repeat and things like that so you can couple a strong component with one that's less natural for you.

I want to see vid of you soon. As I said before, you're going to be ridiculous, make sure you step out of your comfort zone a little because all the stuff you're good at already is so good that I think you can spend time on other stuff

Thanx Bob. Yeah, Ive been thinking about that stuff lately, but I still feel like I need to solidify certain parts of my game before moving on to more sets and whatnot. It was a lot of fun playing with you, hope we can shred again!

So yeah, GRASS last weekend. Really fun event. Not my best shred. Haha. First off, scariest ride of my life on the way there.... Pete was driving.... Once we got there though, it was great to see my home town again (even though I was coming back home today (yea I went to a tournament the weekend before my finals, what of it?)) and it felt good to be back in a familiar place. Anywho, it was awesome seeing the RFA again. Sucked that Paul rolled his ankle first night, but he didnt let that hold him back from still having a good time, hope he heals soon so we can have a session soon. Anywho, the party spot was great and it was good talking to old friends and meeting some new people. The second night, when we went to Wegmans and Taco Bell was absolutley hilarious. Ben and his friend Jamie are two really cool guys. That reminds me, I need to practice more handstands.

Hmmm, what else? Oh yea, it was really great seeing Aric again. He's just as I remember him. Same shirt and everything, haha. His game was still really good for not playing for such a long period of time too. Bah! I didnt get to say goodbye! Pete and I were on the road for about 20 minutes and then I realized I didnt say goodbye to Aric or Paul! I really wanted to thank Paul for his hospitality and say Peace to Aric since Im not gonna see him until he holds a tournament or I happen to be in NC. Im sure our paths shall cross at least once more.

Shredwise? A lot of people's games looked really solid. Pete had some really nasty shuffle runs for being injured. His game is gonna be insane when he's all healed up. Ugh, I need to get really good this summer so I can continue my reign as best current footbagger in Boston... or just kick Pete in the knee :P. Pat was playing really well for being at a tournament. I know he ussually feels like his game suffers when he goes to tournaments, but he was pretty on at this one. Deifnitly lookin forward to the summer shred. Zach Forth has such a consistent game. Every string is at least, like 10 or 15 contacts mostly guiltless, its great. Everyone seemed to think Matt K was surprisingly impressive, and he was, his game is huge, but I was mostly impressed by Danny Petrick. Man, that kid is going to be a maniac. His form is so good and his string length is incredibly long. And he's only 15! Reeee-diculous. Lots of good shred from everyone else too. Matt Cross inventing a new set. I witnessed the creation of the set but I didnt see the far butterfly out of it. dragon reverse swirling stepping. It is absurd. But, so it Matt (in a good way).

I played horrible. Haha. Just, straight up bad. My spinning was totally off, I couldnt hit drifter for the life of me, I could barely bop. Idk what was up, maybe it was just the guilt of finals a few days away in the back of my head, idk. I tried not to let it get the best of me and just have fun, and it worked out pretty well, so whatever. The only day I had trouble doing that though was the last day. It was Dave, Danny and me in a circle and both of them were playing so incredibly well. I felt guilty just being in the circle, totally out of my element. That really got me down and I just stopped playing for a while.

Eventually I saw Colin, who I forgot to mention earlier. Colin is a really cool and funny dude and its so awesome that he made it all the way out from Newfoundland. I think he said this was one of his first tournaments in like, 5 years, other than NYJ or something. But yeah, it was a lot of fun meeting and hanging out with him all weekend. So yeah, I saw Colin and chilled with him for a while until I saw ChrisDeana, and he helped me with my physics a little. Thanx Chris! Soon enough Chris wanted to shred and so did I so we did just that. I played with Will Digges (Griggs), Waylon (such a funny and chill dude), Skippy, Jay and maybe some others, all of which kept going in or out of the circle until I had to leave.

Now, as I was leaving I was saying goodbye to a bunch of people and whatnot, but the one person who really left an impression on me as I was leaving was Ianek Regimbald. Now Ive never talked to Ianek before. I'm really shy so its hard for me to introduce myself to people and whatnot, so after I got done saying bye to Mosher and Johnny, Ianek was looking at me so I thought, "Oh good, an opportunity to introduce myself to Ianek" and after I trip myself up saying "peace" and then "by the way Im doug" he starts telling me that I have good form and stuff. He was saying that he saw me hitting some tiltless stuff and everything looked pretty well controlled and I had potential and whatnot.
Now, Idk if he was just saying this b/c he could tell I was really bummed about how I was playing or if he actually thought I did look like I knew what I was doin tiltless-wise, but either way, it really lifted my spirits. I couldnt thank him enough for such kind words. I think he has one of, if not the coolest, games in footbag, and I just have a lot of respect for him, so its just really hard to convey how hard his words really struck me.

So yeah, that was mostly GRASS for me. Thanx again to Pete for driving there and back (even though I offered to drive but he wouldnt let me :P), I still owe you like $20 for gas and shizz! Aw well, you can come to ROC and get it yourself . Now, I just look forward to shred all summer long. I have plans. BIG plans! Footbag, huzzah!

Peace

Doug, i saw the videos from GRASS and I have to say I agree with Ianek. I definitely think your form and tiltless play is still getting crisper by the day. Just watching some of Zach's videos got me soo psyched for the summer. If you've been reading my blog, I didn't play for a really long time because of snowboarding and I'm back on track playing at least 5 hours a week or more so by the time you see me I'll probably be maybe a little better than I was last time you saw me. Can't wait to see you man, these next two weeks can't end fast enough.

Thanx Ian! Yea man, I'm really really looking forward to shredding with you all summer long, man. We're gonna get good. It'll be grand. :D

So yea, what better way to start off my summer vacation than a solo shred in the old basement! Hell yea! I love solo shred. I can do what I want over and over and over until I hit it without boring other people in a circle.  :) . AKA, I hit some new shizz, most of it Im gonna leave out so I can surprise Pat and Ian and everyone... if I can hit it on command by then  . I'll just post a few highlights I enjoyed....

-butter>gyro mirage>rpt
-spinning mirage bsos in a guiltless run with the exception of one clipper :x
-VORTEX!!!! BS!!!!!

Guess which highlight I was most excited about 8) .

are you serious? you're already on summer break? daaaaaamn. Lucky. This is the week most hated by siena students. The week after Sienafest (this weekend) where we all pack ourselves like sardines into the library or computer labs and do crazy amounts of work fueled by caffeine pills and dining hall cookies.

oh um. Vortex? really? pfffffffff  I kid I kid. That's sweet. We'll have to break that in more four weeks from now.

Hell yea Im on summer break already. And yes, vortex NEEDS to be broken in this summer. Pester me to hit it at least once every session, I really dont wanna lose that trick.

So yea, I figure if the day ever comes where I honestly dont care if I live or die, I'll just do a lil solo shred. If it's good, then there is hope and my existence shall continue. If it goes like the past 2 days, well then you might as well model a pirate flag after me.... (skull and crossbones).

I really hate shin splints. I heard you should do toe taps and just raise your toes a lot to get rid of them. I guess I'll try that.

doug, the last like fifty attempts of my session was trying to do them bsos. I was so close so many times but the asthma just caught up to me. I know what you mean about the shin pains. I had em right after spring break and they really screwed me over. It sucked. Like woah. But anywho, vortex looks insane from what I've seen of it and I can't wait to see those super extra secret moves you're keeping from me. I expect twirls and locomotions all over the place

Haha, Ian knows what I means, I made a comment about him hitting tap in his blog.

Anywho, had a really good session today. I love those days! I biked down to the canal, with my boombox in a backpack which made for a surprisingly not too uncomfortable ride, despite the cumbersome quality of the boombox (yea, I just like using the word cumbersome whenever possible  ).

Its not that anything in particular was really ON per se, but I was just satisfied with my string length... for once, ha. I had a lot of onlookers and some whistling from the women's crew team   . I really enjoy playing there, probably one of my favorite atmospheres. Hmmm, I dont really have any highlights... I remember something I was excited about.... ugh..... oh yeah!

-drifter>rev swirl>rpt

Probably coulda been cleaner. Actually, it definitly coulda been cleaner. None of it was the or anything, as far as I could tell, but the form probably coulda been more precise. Whatev's. Oh and I broke my tripless record, now its 4. It shoulda been 5 but I dropped on torque. Meh, I like linking harder low-add tricks together than playing in one add category. We'll see what tomorrow has in store.

Ha, messin around in socks,

-pixie front sole stall>flapper>ducking far flapper

Now if only I could manage to do that in shoes....

I might post something later if I play, maybe enter that hot drifter contest so people can tear my drifters apart and maybe I can make them better. We'll see.
