HOWEVER.

Discussion/Some constructive criticism time! Not of the video, just the content. Video was fine, though I would have preferred some different music.

I noticed that there was some sort of a format being applied to circle with the rounds, and I was sort of surprised with the trick selections. I know that being creative is tough, especially in competition, but I really would have enjoyed some creative links instead of a bunch of handstand stalls, pushups stalls, etc. in round 1. Lots of BOPS as well, making me think it was a "Creative/StringLength" focused round. I guess this sort of ties in with Asmus' topic, but is a bit different. I think I disagree with the way "Creative" is seen with some peoples eyes.

Round 2 was more shred dominated, and although it was nice to see a lot of the shred I was a bit disappointed from some of the performances. We've all seen all these players kick a hell of a lot better, even in competitions in circles and finals.

Maybe it was the floor, was it slippery? Just a general bad day for people? Stayed up too late partying (Though granted I don't think 3/4s of the competitors in finals are partyers)? Wondering if I'm the only person who feels this way?

Anyway, just some random thoughts that will hopefully spark some discussion on this.

I think everyone stayed up late friday night.

The gym floor had this weird plastic type sheeting on it that was kind of sticky and would gather up and fold, making it a little dangerous to play on.

ATTENTION EVERYONE:

Standing upright while squiggling legs between toes and clippers IS THE MOST CREATIVE THING POSSIBLE in footbag. It is the epitome of innovation and what has NOT been done in our sport. For anyone who thinks otherwise, you are WRONG and should be shunned. I mean, how can anyone in the community possibly like you if you barely do any 5 add moves?
You cannot have freestyle footbag without STRUCTURE and RULES -- end of story. All you so-called 'artists' out there better OBEY if you truly want to be creative.

If your opinion of creativity is not compatible with Emperor Nick's definition it MUST BE FIXED immediately. Failure to comply will result in your swift and timely execution.

Wow Jorden, I don't know if you're just joking around or you're trying to be sarcastic?

I was just trying to discuss something I noticed in the video which took me by surprise and thought it would be something people would care about. You can disagree all you want, that's cool, but why don't you do it in a constructive way instead of making an ass of yourself?

I would have thought you would have some good input on this being one of the foremost innovators in footbag.

I'm really looking forward to e-publishing the interview I did with you yesterday. it's a nice counter to nick's opinions (and maybe verbalized a little more eloquently than your above post).

I'm looking forward to watching this video and commenting both on Jorden and Nick's comments. I wasn't there to watch the first few rounds, only the finals, so I have to watch the vid first. can't wait!

I'm not trying to argue with you. Just pointing out you basically said you disagree with how freestylers choose to express themself, which is 1) very disrespectful and 2) in complete disregard to what it means to be a freethinking artist.

Input: Great job Zach. Kudos for putting this out so fast. Many long consistent runs by all. Camera was a bit shaky, but didn't take away from the footage too much.

Well from now on I'll be careful to structure my thoughts around all the freethinking arteests, and make sure not to ever, forever, post an opinion regarding anyones trick selection or general observations of a video. Ever. It would most certainly be disrespectful to the One Minded community as an Entity, as a whole.

Sort of makes me wonder why we have a forum at all if it isn't to discuss but I'll keep those blasphemous thoughts to myself in fear of further offending the Community.

From now on, I've decided to start slurring all my stepping sets, because I find it an easier yet better way to express my passion through the Art. I mean, all sets were created equal, weren't they?

I thought there were some really nice runs in there.

My opinion on what constitutes creative links: Although I recognize how unique the pendulum trick, or the hand stand is (etc.), there were other runs that I thought were just as creative while using more conventional tricks >> the runs that linked in surprising ways or had rhythms that kept me guessing are just as enjoyable from a creative standpoint in my opinion. So, not to get in the way of a good fight or anything, but I guess Nick was maybe trying to say something more like what I just said? I dunno.

First and foremost, thank you Zach for this video. Since no one else recorded any video, without you there would be no way to share the GRASS 2008 experience with the rest of the footbag community.

Nick LaRoche,

This is one those "you had to be there" videos. We were being pressed by the juggling group to "hurry it up" and there were absolutely no breaks between our competative events. Most of the players in the final circle competed in every prior event, including Sick 1, Sick 3, TEN. Also, there were only two levels of circle before this final circle. In addition to the fast pace of competitions, the judging system and expectations for the players were determined on the fly. Ianek and some of his friends contributed greatly to helping the competitions run in a professional manner, but prior to this the competitors had no idea what they would be required to do. For instance, we held our Sick events like Big events, where the players had to announce their move or combination before performing it. Unfortunately they were not informed of this formality until they stood up to perform. Given the limited time and poor surface we were provided, I would say competitions went very well.

I do not know if you are joking or not. Either way, you did a great job in competitions, and your stage performance was amazing. You are certainly helping bridge the gap between the world of juggling and the world of footbag. And you are showing all of us that the possibilities are truly endless.

One last thing. I want to stress again that I appreciate your video and I look forward to other shred videos from you. However, I would like to point out that this last video was much more enjoyable to me with the sound turned off. Personally, I do not favor the style of music in the beginning of this video, so I admit to being somewhat biased. However, considering this video represents highlights from a general admission event, I would hope videos provided to share this event with others would be edited to appeal to a similar audience. I hope you take no offense to this and see this as constructive criticism.

yeah I know the first couple song were not really typical footbag songs, I just liked how the first one said newyork at the begainning in the lyrics.

sorry if I offended anyone with any of the swears and 'n' in the songs. I don't plain on using gangsta rap in the shred vids.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We all just need to agree to disagree.

I lean entirely towards mike's mindset about the music. I almost want to ask for a re-release of the video with different (or no) music.

MAJOR props for being right on top of this, and releasing the freshest footbag footage available.

On the creativity subject:

I personally think its a new thing in footbag that has just started, practicing this myself.

But! To look good and impressive, it has to be harder.Look at the stuff b-boys do, thats power

combined with footbag thats even more power.
