Zeke wrote:Sunday was a good old fashioned squares session. Good games, great plays, lots of laughs. Nathan and I had some epic duels while at the lake and played strong during 4S at Welles. Ronnie continued his solid play But Andre really impressed me the most. He did a good job of keeping the bag in the court and killing others instead of taking himself out. The work he did on his left back kick payed off as well. What was really great was the fake at the line catching more than a few of us off guard on many occasions

My play was a little streaky throughout the afternoon but when my game was on, it was straight brutal. I landed more than a few Sweep & Screens right near the line, dinks from the back court, careful use of axe kicks, power shots and even my Praying Mantis killed just about every time I used it.

Shot of the day was set up when Josh booted Andre and got the kill. Andre got some payback with a boot of his own on Josh. While I was in ksq, Josh wound up for a boot from 2sq and I jumped to the right to avoid the blast and he calmly dinked to my left corner for an easy ace. I stood there stunned as he pointed at me, smiled and walked into the next square. I gave him props.

But since this is my entry, I'll end it with one of my own. For the last play of the day, I served game point to Nathan in 3sq we exchanged a few volleys before I ended up kicking it up and out of bounds, about 4 feet out of Nathan's left side. Determined to get it back in for the win, I chased after it. Nathan, determined to stop me at all costs hit me with a solid check. But I already had my right foot extended when the hit came and I managed to get a decent contact on the bag and kicked it right into the empty 3sq for the win. I never saw where the bag landed but judging from the reaction from squares 1 & 2 I knew I got lucky and landed it. I think instead of watching, they should have covered Nathan's back.
Frank_Sinatra wrote:I've got to give you props, that was an awesome win. I kinda felt bad about the check afterwards, cause it was mostly elbow into your ribs.

I grew up rough-housing with 2 brothers so don't even sweat it, it was a good check. I might have been more disappointed if you just let me get to that bag uncontested.

EDIT:
Notable plays
--Intense 4S early in the day with a barrage of power shots
--Ronnie charging into Marty's square, only to be kicked in the shins
--Andre faking Marty at least 3 times
--Perfect double team from Nathan and Ronnie
--Me flipping the bag off my shirt from out-of-bounds towards Nathan, who in tun, shanks it and gets himself out.
--Kicking the bag high into the sun and predicting the kill

One of my favorites all day was my constant snake/fake snake on Andre. I only do that because Ronnie always serves to Andre and IMO avoids serving to me & other solid defenders. And I feel left out, so I try to snake it straight back at Ronnie and force a reaction. I've gotten pretty good at snaking serves from almost any square. The best is snaking a serve into square three, from square one.

Anyway, I also fake snakes, just because any move needs a changeup so it isn't too easy to predict. On Sunday, there was one fake I did that resulted in Andre missing the bag. And he just walked to the edge of square 2 (I was square 3). And stared at me with this disgusted look on his face. Like he was too angry to speak to me. Hahaha it was awesome.

Session tomorrow

I'm planning on kicking tomorrow - I think Fred was gonna be able to make it but I should check with him to make sure. Not sure where yet - downtown would be best for me but maybe not realistic for everybody else. If not downtown, Independence Park? Let me know whatchu thinkin is.

Andre, if Zeke can't make it, would you still want to kick later on?

I'll be heading over to Millennium Park after work. Call me if you want to meet up.

Hey, what are y'all up to?!

I have a bye week this week from ultimate but its for mother's day.

I was thinking to invite the ultimate team to go to the windy city cup and CIC's bday jam, seeing how many play footbag too, and i'd like to expose them to a higher level of play. Has there been talk or any meetings on the bday jam topic? The very last week of May or early June would be the best time, seeing how school gets out on june 13(i graduate earlier, on the 6th).

No plans or meetings yet about the B-day Jam. We're waiting for Tom to get back into town to do that (which is weird because he's not allowed to set the date & time). We're not going to hold it near May 19th and will probably wait for a heatwave to start to make sure we can prevent the cold weather curse we've experienced the last 3 years. There's a net practice session near Navy Pier on Saturday if the weather stays clear. Nothing planned yet for Mother's Day for obvious reasons. That may change.
