Is good.

I was thinking a discussion of rap on this forum would be cool. I've gotten some cool suggestions from people here so maybe i can give some good suggestions and get some good ones.

I've been listening to A Tribe Called Quest, Deltron 3030, Digable Planets, Public Enemy, and The Roots a lot recently.

The Roots are kinda a new discovery for me. Daaang they're good. Definitely check them out if you're as behind the times as I am.

Aesop Rock, some of his best songs IMO are Daylight, Nightlight, Coffee, Coma and None Shall Pass.

CunninLyngustics are pretty dope, been listening to Will Rap for Food.

The Roots are amazing. 'nuff said.

As a young-un, I've been getting into rap that was huge during the nineties but totally passed me by as an elementary school student. NWA, 2Pac (which i guess is a little earlier), and the like.

I've heard Buck 65 before. It was hard for me to get past his weird ass voice, but I can definitely dig. I think it would take me a while to get into it though.

The new Roots album is pretty awesome, just finished listening to it.

MF Doom+ DJ Dangermouse= Dangerdoom and it is amazing.

Blackalicious is pretty sick just started listening to them.

Big L and Sage Francis are sick, just started listening to them after awhile and forgot how sick they were.

Deltron 3030 is sick. I have a heard a lot the songs before, but never knew it was Deltron. Gotta go and buy some.

Deltron's supposedly coming out with a new album in the next few months? I'm psyched for that. MF Doom is sick too, my friends introduced me to him.

It's kinda funny, I discuss like half these bands and along with others with my latin teacher everyday. Apparently, in his college days he was a huge Roots fan and saw them along with Common in concert twice.

I'd also like to keep this a little bit along the lines of a suggestions, questions and discussion thread too, not really a list every rap group you like. No one's done anything I didn't approve of or anything, but just soemthing to keep in mind, i think it would make this a better thread.

I'm gonna keep checking out everyone's suggestions tonight, thanks!

Some of the classic stuff that got me into rap was Gang Starr, highly recommend them if you want to hear some snappy minimalistic beats.

It's sort of like their an introductory group; basically, once you appreciate them, you can move on and dig deeper within the scene, and once you adapt with the next group, and get their sound down in your head, you can move on to some other stuff. If you enjoy that sort of beat and sound, I also recommend some other classics in the genre like A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common... they're all part of the same crew, sort of, at least you'll see a lot of these artists work together, and perform together.

I love how the geography really plays off in the music; there's definitely a "New York" sound, and then there's definitely a "West Coast" sound, and within the west coast each city can represent in it's own way.

Listen to Dr.Dre for a west-coast example, and DJ Premiere for the east-coast... each has their own very distinct sound. And you can hear that sound emulated by other artists living in their respective cities...

Rakim is my favourite.
Other good hip-hop artists are Common (also the older Common Sense), Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Cunninlynguists,Gang Starr, Das Efx, Black Moon, Dead Prez, Plan B...
