Well, it's going to have to be both. The whole goal is making a video that is interesting to watch and for that it has to have both good editing and cool footbag because we're...well, footbaggers. Not saying it has to be insane shred, but make a vid that shows off your awesome stylehacksterbator wrote:well i'd say it's going to be a battle of editing, as not all of us are the most insane shredders, and don't hit all the sickest moves, but i guess that is also open for debate...
I thought Chris had a good idea with the vids being about 2 minutes. If people are going to have to download them all to vote, they shouldn't be huge.
This is going to rock if it goes down...so many vids to watch.

I like these rules, about all drawing from the same clips.chan wrote:QuantumBalance wrote:ill battle but i dunno the rules of the battle
i dont know either. lets make rules.
the way i thought is that both film a certain amount of clips.
and then i like when we (sam and i) decided that you both send each other your clips.
and you BOTH make a video. with the same clips. yours and your opponents.
but your videos are different. in your individual editing styles.
there can be declared clip rules. like in four square. like:
-a 20-move guiltless run
-most 5 adds consecutively
-most triple dexes consecutively
-only clipper moves/only toe moves
-you have to wear a hat
-yell out the name of the move as you hit it. for every move.
things like that.
we can post the videos. with a poll. and people can vote on who wins. then other people can challenge the winner. there is a rule. you cant turn down a challenge. but if you have multiple challenges. you can choose who you battle.
let the battles begin!!
(somebody has to challenge me now..)

this is the 44 Wand, the most powerful Handwand in the world, so did i fire 5 or 6 fireballs? now you got to ask yourself one question pal, do i feel lucky? well do ya punk.

to brian: thanks but i have lots to learn still
the battle: i'm not wild about having to use other peoples clips. first off, not all of us are using the same programs to edit/ view movies with... i mean, I'm not using the same programs to edit/ view movies with. i can't make wmv clips, my mac doesn't have the capabilites, i use only mov and quick time formats. to make others turn thier footage into .mov format and for me to turn my footage into wmv is a huge hassle, never mind sending them to each other! these files are going to be pretty big, and the way it sounds to me is we have to use half and half. for a 2 minute movie i have to send and recieve probably over a minute (to give them room to play with) of full quality DV footage, because if we compress them befor we start editing it'll have very poor quality when we produce them for the web. i think using each others footage is a really neat idea, then it's an even battle! but i see it as very time consuming. maybe just use the same sound track, or something similar. perhaps it's best if the video deulers decide the rules for thier battle, rather than having limiting rules for every one to follow. Maybe just generic rules, like video time, no turning down a challenge, etc.. cuz most 5adds consecutively, not every one can do that! i do like the no turning down a challenge, espcially if you won your last one! Maybe we should have like a tableau, and pair people up. when you win, you move on to the next round, and are paired up with a new challenger, if win that one you move on to the next round, and so on, and so forth, untill there is an ultimate video editing master!

modes of competition (that i know of):
double elimination- like in most sports. you battle until you have lost twice. if you lose once, you can still make it to the top through the losers bracket. (i'm sure i can get a pool sheet from a judo site somewhere)
single elimination- same as above, except take out the losers pool.
round robin- used for when there are a few competitors in a single division. every competitor battles every competitor. count up the wins, and you have your rankings.
kohaku- you line up according to weight (or in this case, line up according to confidence?), and the person at the bottom battles up the line until he loses, and so on. you count up the wins, and you have the ranks.
if anything here is unclear i can give a more detailed explanation of these. im just tired right now.
PS- according to chan's rules (duels, and challenging people), we can give the current champ a special title under their nickname...like "Video Editor Champion", or something. that would be pretty cool.

kohaku (spelling?) is something we did in judo. you lined up from lightest to heaviest. the lightest would fight the second lightest, and the winner would go on the the next guy. so if you keep winning, they get harder and harder, but at least you're getting some wins. and when you eventually lose, the guy who beat you starts going up the line. for the last 2 guys, since they cant fight more than 2 fights, they usually go against the 3rd and 4th heaviest of the division.
then you see who won the most matches.
then you see who won the most matches.

yeah. i think using others clips is kind of weak now too. cause i realized people film at different angles and stuff. and i cant stand when somebody films for me and like. focuses on 30% feet and 70% ground. or 90% ground and 10% not ground....or doesnt use the zoom at ALL!..
i still think that would be fun too though.
but maybe not for these battles.
okay. so lets start already.
somebody challenge sam.
i challenge sam!!
what do we do? lets make rules for our battle. okay?

hell yeah.. ok ... i propose (open for debate [by chan only])
2 minute movie
we can not use footage of ourselves
we can use footage of as many freestylers as we want
we dont use the same clips or same music
we have much fun
who will win?!
im so giddy!
edit: i also propose that we cant use footage that we already have.. we have to set a date when to start and a due date for the video to be finished.
how much time should we have? 3 days? what do you think?

i dont have access to other freestylers very often >____<
thats a harsh rule. i like it. but i dont think i will be able to get footage of someone else except tonight cause im jamming with andrew. i would say the weekend. but i think im busy and i dont think i can jam with derek, now that i think of it.
i vote we change that rule? unless i can use the footage that i will take of andrew tonight. but that breaks a rule. because it will not have been filmed in the given time. maybe we should pm..
