Anz wants to see you play Genuine (post your video)

Post by C-Fan »

Anz likes genuine. I like the Stephen Barnes 1-shot thread. So I figured: "if people are going to shoot one thread a session for the SB challenge, how about asking people to try a few genuine runs per session, pick their best, and post that too?"

So this thread is for you to post video of your best genuine run from your session. You can post more than one, but try not to spam the thread too much. I figure your best genuine run from a session is a good start.

I'll try this out next time I play.

Guitless with no BOPs in this case.

I think i could partake in this, is it all right if i repeat a move? Or is this tread just about Guiltless with no BOPS. Can i replace Pdx Mirage with Pdx Illusion?

Yeah, you can use any guiltless tricks other than BOPs (Pdx Illusion isn't a BOP (BOP = Butterfly, Osis, Pdx Mirage)), and you CAN repeat tricks.
Here's the thread where Anssi explains his idea:

I kinda posted this in a hurry, which I realized after reading the responses here and getting some PMs. I think part of the problem is I just assumed that everybody else had been reading Anz's blog regularly for the last few months, or had read his thread in general footbag. That was probably a bad assumption.

The main point I want to emphasize, is that I envisioned this thread being a way to help push open level players to improve their game. As Anz wrote, genuine can be the next step in a player's evolution after they have mastered guiltless (and by implication, be at least competent at tripless and fearless). So while tiltless is an important step/benchmark for beginners, and guiltless is a good aspiration for intermediates, genuine can be a good goal for players who are Open-level and have already mastered BOPs and normal genuine.

The point I am trying to emphasize, is that genuine is similar to fearless or beastly in the sense that intermediates should spend more time getting their basic games solid before trying for something that's above their level.

My hope was that this thread would become a place where players who CAN play genuine, post some of their better genuine strings. Not a place where players who should be honing their guiltless try for something beyond their level.

On that note, I was thinking that people should only submit combos here which are at least 10 contacts. I want to see genuine strings, not a 4 trick combo. I hope this clears up my intentions.

PS- I personally think that pdx illusion counts as a BOP. Osis and butterfly have no other directional variants, but given that illusion and mirage are considered more or less the same move, I think that pdx illusion is just a variant (of equal difficulty) of pdx mirage, and therefore should be excluded. Please don't misunderstand; I am NOT saying that pdx illusion is too easy to be considered genuine. I am saying that pdx illusion is just a variant of pdx mirage, and therefore counts as a BOP. Just my thought.

Maybe closer to 15. When i'm thinking "string" i'm generally thinking over 15. half the drills i work on are 6+ contacs per rotation.

My best genuine run from tonight:

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn Anz. Nice run man. Ken, yours was hella sweet too. This will be a fun thread to watch.

ha ha, I tried some genuine last night for shits and giggles. Wasn't nearly as pretty as the runs above. Basically, I can get about 8 - 10 tricks in before the runs get very boring. But it's definitely a fun thing to try here and there for someone at my level of skill. Inspiring to watch the more skilled players really go nuts with the concept.

Pdx lllusion is not a BOP. I consider it not-BOP-worthy because it needs more control and balance to be pulled of cleanly, than Pdx Mirage. If we start talking about easy Genuine tricks, I think dexless tricks are as easy as Pdx Illusion and Toe Whirl.

Nice run Ken! My favourite part was Pdx Drifter > PS Whirl > Pdx Torque > Pdx Whirl, sick!

i personally agree.... but the top half of this same thread says otherwise. so i just thought it was funny.

but yeah, i think dx illusion is way tougher than pdx mirage.... like the relationship between rev whirl and whirl.... its a more complete dex.
