4 years for it to have a good chance of survival in a tribal setting with only 1 parent. Not 4 years for it to survive by itself.

Also it's important to note that the evolutionary explanation is just a hypothesis, based on the observation that people only fall in love for 4 years, which has become scientific consensus.

Being sceptical of science is good, but only if you actually take the time to look at the raw evidence yourself. If you don't do that, and are just sceptical of things you don't agree with without evidence (you could say dogmatically) then that leads to things like serious increase of deaths amongst children in the Western world from measles, a disease that still kills tens of thousands of people globally and has been proven to be easily vaccinated against.

There are multiple hypothesis. This one is just one among many, the 4 years thing also. It sort of makes sense, but I'm too open-minded to believe in just one theory.

Dismissing observed evidence is not open-minded, it's dogmatic. It's saying; "My personal view, which isn't based on any objective evidence contradicts that, so I'm going to dismiss it." Open minded means believing the best evidence regardless of how you feel about it.

The 4 year thing isn't a hypothesis, it's an observation. It's what unscientific people would call a fact. Attempts to explain why the observation occurs are hypothesis.

What I'm saying is that other so-called observations are that love last one year and a half, other say three years, and now you say four. In fact it's the first time I hear four years. I'm open-minded because I don't believe in one ultimate truth, as there are other hypothesis based on different so-called observations that makes sense too. You choose to fully believe in this theory, it's okay. Everyone has their opinions. I read many books on the matter, and though some are more pleasant for me to believe in, some are also more logical. With so many new discoveries nowadays, and constant theories shpoping out of them, no one should act like they know the absolute truth; I believe in critical thinking.

However, I do relate with the empty feeling after sex, but I find it passes relatively quickly, which is when I move on to round 2, 3, 8, etc

Real relationships come from conversation. Robertson Davies said that the full potential of true love cannot be experienced until you has grandchildren. A relationship driven by physical desire wont last.

All I did was come into this thread and say I thought sex was pretty much a pointless activity. I wasn't the one who went in and said it controls our whole psychology, or started talking 'in evolutionary terms'.
