I'm finally going to shred today

it has been 7 days since my last shred. i hate having such long gaps in between. it's not because i dont want to shred but because i dont have the time.

the one time when i was going to shred, my mom and i went long boarding and she fell and hit her head and had to get 4 staples in her noggin. that sucked up 8 hours quite quickly i have to say.

now im just going t get right back in it though. i want to step it up again before GRASS. i want to step out of blurry whirl. I also want to hit flip side ripped warrior which i already should have been pushing more. i came up with this drill too, it's one sided but sounds fun: whirl>sidewalk>rpt. I always warm up by doing a lot of ducking clippers and all of its variants. it seems to be a nice balance of breathing not to quick but not too easy like legovers and pickups. i really like stepping, spinning, and doing whirls out of a ducking concept. it helps me so much, i dont quite understand it but i think it may have to do with timing or something.

Oh and i have been eating much healthier now and now i'm down to 158 lbs. yes! i really, really want to be lightweight, there's no way i'm getting stuck in the shit boat.

huzzah! those are some key phrases. So if you're not going to be able to stay till the last day for GRASS, will you be taking a separate car? We can still go down convoy style if you can.
I also want to hit flip side ripped warrior which i already should have been pushing more
 yeah you've got me surprised by this too. And I'll be asking for some advice on this as well come GRASS because I think I'm slurring the dex on some of my better attempts.

Got into SUNY Albany

Yay.

here is a small clip of a new move, nothing special (at all), just so happened to catch it on film. My blog looks pretty dry lately so I guess this might spice it up a little bit.

I think I have narrowed my decision on what I want to major in:

 Philosophy

I love thinking critically about the existance of existance.

One of my undergrad degrees is in Philosophy, and I don't regret that (namely, I don't regret it because I had a second major and grad school to get me headed into my career). I found the course of study very enlightening, and I made a lot of good friends since we were a small group.

But, I will caution you that a Philosophy degree is next-to-useless in the real world if you don't plan on being a professor, or a very select number of other positions that would find value in this degree. So, if you are able to double major, and include a subject that is more practical to your end career goal, in my opinion it is worth doing so.

Of course, I don't know what your career aspirations are, so you should completely ignore me if you feel that Philosophy is the road to your goal job.

Say I did a double major of Philosophy and Psychology would there be less work and classtime for each but still equal out to the equivalent of one major?

On a scale of difficulty (e.g.-class time, amount of studying, exams, etc) how difficult is this major? What do people say about it? what is it's reputation at most colleges? Is it seen as a hard major or an easy major?

I'm taking one year of general education first and maybe I will change my mind then but for now this is what im interested in.

I just dont want to get in over my head with this and find out that Philosophy is not for me. My brother chanegd is major 3 times and ended up finishing with a degree in sociology....he is currently an accountant...

I'd rather not go that route so i really want to be sure that I want to study this...

Then again...do I really exist?

I'm sorry but this deservers a new post:

The Relationship of Me and My Father:

"Essentially philosophers (me) often ask good questions, but they (me) have no techniques for getting the right answers. Therefore you (my father) should not (does not) pay too much attention to their (my) discussions."

I think it's a calling...

On another note, I know there are many people studying philosophy and religion as a double major but the only reason I would study religion is to prove that it's all just theory and that humans have fucked up minds that make them believe things that arent true because we really dont exist because existance is created by this thing we call a brain which really doesnt even do anything but send false messages to you that lead you to believe that existance really exists when what really exists is just many small meaningless, "thoughts", that are only an extrememly small portion of what humans call, "time".

(Longest run on sentance...EVER!)

More on that later...

I really think mankind is wasting their time sitting in cubicals thinking about how they are going to "bring home the money." We are extemely self centered in that sense. You only live for what is such a short time and the billions of people that have lived those lives have truely wasted them. They are equal to nothing in this society. The only people that have really done anything meanigful are the philosophers but no one listens to them. I think if a person has not done something to drastically change the world by the time they are 50, they should be killed. There are only a handful of people who have done this. Im not talking about someone curing world hunger. im talking about big advances. like discovering the meaning of existance. Why live if there is no reason to exist? why waste your life when you could just be out of the way of the people who are really going to do something for HUMANS, not society, not the world, for HUMANS. Humans will eventually die out because thats just how nature works, but why not figure out why the hell we think the things we think and what the Universe actually is. I mean, it had to begin somewhere didnt it? the Universe has to end, if the end tof the universe was found, I think we would truely discover the meaning of all existance. So people, quit your job and go find the end of the Universe god damnit! Now that i think about it, i dont think it's up to Humans to discover the meaning of existance. We are sure a heck of a lot closer than the dinosaurs were to finding it out, bu not close enough. We just need to tough it out, wait for humans to die out, and let the next generation of "advanced species" to figure out what the hell is going on...

It's more work in each subject (none of the credits will "double count" against both majors), but overall you can get it done without having to take extra credits during your 4 years. For example, I have a degree in Economics, a second degree in Philosophy, and a minor in Psychology. And I had enough time within my 4 years to do that, and all my pre-reqs, after switching from my initial program of Computer Science.

Side note: Psychology is also a useless degree unless you plan to go to graduate school. Even then, doctorate program is generally needed to really advance in the field. I took it because I was interested in the subject and felt that understanding it would help me in other interests.

On a scale of difficulty (e.g.-class time, amount of studying, exams, etc) how difficult is this major?

Philosophy isn't that hard if you can understand and retain what you read. There are lots of theories, and they're often written in a complicated way. So you have to read from "10,000 feet" to understand the big picture of what they're saying. You'll also have to take logic classes - these were very easy for my math brain, but many others found logic to be difficult. But most theories are rooted in logic, so it's necessary to understand it.

What do people say about it? what is it's reputation at most colleges? Is it seen as a hard major or an easy major?

Depends on your career goal, but largely, companies could give a crap about Philosophy. Unless you're teaching (someone let me know if I'm forgetting any other professions) or are going to live a spiritual life that doesn't require a career etc. it's a major that needs to be coupled with something else for it to do you any good.

I'm taking one year of general education first and maybe I will change my mind then but for now this is what im interested in.

If at all possible, and I really mean this, take the end of this year and this summer to try job shadowing at a few places. Your guidance counselor should be able to help with that. Or your parents, or your church, or whatever support network. The best way, in my opinion, to start college is to have an idea where you want to end up. Otherwise, you'll end up taking classes that come easily to you (like me with Economics.. there are only 12 economists in the country.. bad choice on my part) rather than classes that point you towards a career you have an interest in.

I just dont want to get in over my head with this and find out that Philosophy is not for me. My brother chanegd is major 3 times and ended up finishing with a degree in sociology....he is currently an accountant...

I'd rather not go that route so i really want to be sure that I want to study this...

Job shadow, job shadow, job shadow. A week in the life of a real job is eye opening. Then again, you also have to balance future material needs/wants (do you want a family? do you want a nice house? do you like to travel?) against the jobs that you like and strike a balance. Me? I'd have loved to be a landscape architect. I didn't job shadow, so I never knew. And now, the ramp up time to get my salary in that field to the same level as the salary I already have would be crippling to our family. So, it is not a possibility. Doing the up front work now isn't fun, but you'll thank yourself later.

Then again...do I really exist?

Ok, here's the first Philosophy joke (regarding perception and reality) you'll hear at school.

"A piece of string walks into the bar. The bartender says 'Can't you see the sign? We don't serve string here!! Get out!' So the string walks out and goes around to the side of the building. He ties himself into a knot and then frazzles his ends up. After this, he goes back into the bar. The bartender looks at him and says 'Aren't you the string I just kicked out of here?' The string replies, 'No, I'm a frayed knot'"

edit: If that's not the first joke you hear, then this will be:
"Rene Descartes is sitting on a plane and the stewardess comes by and asks 'Would you like some tea?' Rene answers 'I think not'. And then he disappears"

Hint: Google "Cogito, ergo sum" if the joke doesn't make sense.

philosophy is a lot of writing. They tend to be classified under the same general category just above English majors - meaning people are like ah you're not a business major so that's cool but you still have no future. You fool.

so I would say you're on the right track. Multitask it with a double major or at least have philosophy be a minor. Psych is pretty cool. My roommate is one of the brighter students in the department here at Siena. But yeah like mentioned above. . . not much going for you unless you want to go to grad school.

You'll have time to figure all that out, man. It's kind of bizarre to think you know exactly what your major is before you even go to college. A lot fo people go in undeclared and figure it out by second semester sophmore year. Others don't. Everyone's different, of course.

You'll figure it out though. It's cool you like those topics. Thinking is a fine hobby. We should include a discussion of existentialism or the artificiality of religion in a summer Syracuse Footbag video. In between clipper > pickups.

I'm far too sore to play footbag.

Double sessions of crew.

I dont play often enough right now to make improvments so it's kind of depressing everytime I shred.

Sold my 360

just wasnt for me.

and i need money for college books.

in terms of footbag:

No footbag> school> crew> girlfriend> divorce> getting a job> more no footbag> losing weight for crew (14 lbs less than winter high point)>weak>GAHHHHH!

right now i dont think i would be able to play footbag for more than 45 minutes. Im way too weak from crew after i get back from practice and thats the only time i get to shred. I need to wait until i gain my fat back so i can actually feel like something more than skin and bones.

Wow, I actually bagged yesterday.

It was kind of funny because I felt more rejuvinated.

Pixies felt easier than they used to than when i was all frustrated with them. I was doing PLO's b2b and stuff which was nice. It just feels like I dont have to use as mcuh effort. My double dexes were uber deep which was cool and they felt good. I'm not going say anything was bad because it was my first time in about 3 or 4 weeks.

Rea - - are you still planning on working at the skatepark this summer? beCUZ that'd be tighter than the schedule the parkway trams keep.

sorry to hear the 360 didn't work out. Gaming fits in well in a space left over between schoolwork and "x" physical activity. But since you have at least two physical activities the sheer activeness of your lifestyle snuffed out the soda drinking pop tart eating gamer potential. . . . which is sad. But at least you're still hackin.
