"Weak"side First?

Post by Pancake Flogger »

I'm curious to know which moves, if any, you hit on your weak side before you hit them on your strong side.

-mirage
-drifter
-osis
-torque

The main one I have in mind here is Osis, since on my strong side, it's totally hopeless, but when I tried my flip I hit it in only a few attemps. I can now hit a sloppy torque, catching with my left, but can't even fathom it on my right. Same problems anyone?

I'm the almost the exact same way regarding osis and the weak side, I'm always doing the weak one and not the strongside one. I think there are just some moves where something like that is normal, osis and torque possibly being a couple of them. Just keep on drilling both sides and life will be all good eventually

Hi Danny. :-)

I might be misinterpreting, but it sounds like your terminology might be a bit off for "weak."

"Flip" or "flipside" is a more positive way to say "weak" side.

From footbag.org: "Flip: A player's weak side where it is harder to hit a given move or concept."

Your "flip side" is not fixed for all tricks, it is whichever side is harder for you for each particular move. So my flip clipper could be my left foot, but my flip osis could be my right foot.

If you're better at a move on your flipside, then its not really your flipside for that move is it?

My flipside depends greatly on the trick that I am trying to hit. For example, I am better at out-in dexes on my left leg but in-out on my right, so my flip fairy is my good pixie.

I agree that the best way to fix this problem is to practice both sides the same amount when learning new moves.

Sorry, I shouldn't have thrown "flip" in there. I'm referring to the side that is normally the comfortable side. In my case, this is my right side. However, Osis on my right side never feels, looks, or turns out properly. As soon as I tried learning it on my left side (my usual flipside), I hit it almost immediately.

But now that you know what I mean, keep posting these lists. I'm curious. Maybe we can find some sort of technical trend here.

My strong pdx drifter used to be weak drifter and weak pdx mirage side.

My strong pdx whirl is flip pdx drifter, flip whirl, and flip pdx mirage.

I hit flip drifter before strong drifter (almost 2 sessions before I think).

Also, flip pickup is easier. So is flip far swirl. And barfly (which is not my strong paradon side)

Seems to me like you're pretty ambidextrous, John. I question whether you really have a true weak/strong side at all. I'm right handed, so I consider myself to be right footed as well. I believe it normally corresponds like that.

I wish I were ambidexterous. I still favor my right side way too much. its just those ones always happen to work better on the left side for some odd reason. like i can do ducking mirage probably seven out of ten times on my right side and maybe one out of twenty on my left.

I did my clipper drifter on my weakside drifting leg but had always done toe drifter with the other leg dexing. Other than that:
blurry whirl (still suck on my strongside)
spinning whirl
omlette
pixie whirl
spinning ducking

as far as flipside, i haven't hit anything flip before my normal side,

but oddly enough, a reverse move, such as "reverse mirage" = illusion ; i was able to hit easily before mirage

so for someone who can hit clip > swirling clipper...... was rev swirl easier? for anybody?
