i haven't found anything wrong with the footbag.org forum yet.
moderation seems just as relaxed as it is here. but then again,
maybe im not a very observant person.

This goes the post b4 chris'

Hence the word 'implied'

As well, since this is the internet, there is no tone.
Its hard not get offended by statements like that, and that in vocal conversations would otherwise be intrepreted correctly.

modified is #1. community and feel, comfortable
flipsider #2 lots of noobs posting hilarious stuff,
footbag.org, late to the game, openly critized forums, and then go and start one. I would guess they started the paradox debate to liven things up and get people to that forum, but steves agressive hostile nature is so overpowering that I have little desire to post in his forums. I read in this thread that .org has legitamacy behind it, but I think it lookd like the forum equivalent of jerry springer.

Did I imply? Nope. You implied that I implied. And if you perceive it as non-judgemental, then it's not implied, and therefore isn't contradictory.

To be honest, it's more like - let the person's posts/words be the route to others' perceptions. Post numbers are like age. They can mean something, but generally don't imply anything.

And thanks for your opinion. Honestly. :)

EDIT: Heh, seems as though we're in an EDIT time-chase situation here... :O I agree, hope you know my tone is generally friendly, pretty much always, and is indeed with my posts to this thread. I meant no harm or ill will. :) <-- best attempt at inducing tone to my words :)

"And you with nine posts gives you all the basis in the world to comment"

Oh come on, I can surely see that you didn't mean to pass judgement (now).
But the statement alone has an underlying tone of being condescending in nature, from you and your 48 posts at the time...

If I really meant to be condescending, I would have stopped after that first sentence :P

EDIT: in an ironic twist, if we keep this up you'll double your posts in this thread alone :P heheh

EDIT2: (in order to keep my post count down  ) Greets Bill :) I send you my welcome, on behalf of the footbag n00bs. I have to keep my posts down, lest I get some post-count based title under my nick, like "uber shredder" when my skills are more like "uber lamer" ;)

I've been on Modified alllll day.

its great.

Oh god edit time chase, I know what mean, if your the last person to post on a thread, then you don't get that "this post has been edited 2 times" thing under your post.

ah, thats great. This thread is having a lot of re-readablity for me
:D

Ok, my final edit to this post:
We should have just PM'ed eachother, we've strayed soooo far from the topic...
Meh it was fun.

haha.

Yes, that's the general idea. You're not supposed to be able to "change your mind" about the things you say in public. I'd say that it's dishonest to do so. I don't want to blow it out of proportion, but it is a pretty major thing in a community that professes to be open.

There is no other publishing medium where you can just erase what you wrote. You can print retractions, apologies, amendments etc, but you can't just delete the orginal. You said it. Live with it.

Granted maybe there should be some sort of leeway with a time out, so if you post something and read it back to yourself and see a huge spelling error that totally changes the context of your sentence.... but that's sort of what "previewing" is for.

I believe being able to edit your posts significantly takes away from the value of any discussion where that is enabled.

That's because we don't intend to moderate per se. It will be pretty much as lax as it is here as far as the actual content goes. Moderators (it's not just me & Steve (we're just the admin's) and we are asking to other people to volunteer as well) on the .org forum will simply be making sure that threads don't stray too far from the topics (and where it does we won't stop the thread, we'll just move it and maybe rename it) and doing the obvious stuff like deleting straight up derogatory personal attacks.

You guys are assuming a lot. You assume that in the past on [email protected] we enjoyed having to be as strict as we were when we were simply trying to maintain the list the way it was intended to be used -- as Steve has explained, most moderation that took place was based entirely on technical issues that we didn't have any control over. If we let 80% of those posts through, the list would have been completely unuseable.

But everybody took it personally when their post didn't go through (even though they paid zero attention to the issues at hand) and just assumed that we were power hungry trolls limiting free speech. It's an assumption based on mis-understanding and apparently people seem to be unwilling to even try to understand -- or get over it.

Okay - I promise to shut up now. For real this time. I don't even know why I'm trying to justify or convince anybody of anything. Y'all are probably asking me the same question right about now.

So, just keep hacking everyone, it's our common bond.

just a note. but your assumptions of our assumptions are just as silly as our original assumptions. assuming your assumptions of our assumptions are correct.

Basically, yes. They're great names for forums.

I created them all, blame me for being un-original :) Oh wait - I'm supposed to have shut up.

PS Yeah Rob, you're the man :)

i think an edit button is important for the following reasons:
1 prevents double, triple posts
2 prevents spelling mistakes, things that make you look stupid after the fact
3 easy to updat something you just wrote: (
ex: "i hit whirl for the first time! edit: I just hit it for the second and third time as well! yay!")
4 if you say something in anger (like you and I have been known to do), and feel later as if you were unjust in your ribbing of another's ideals etc., it is best to retract the comment completely (through edit) than posting a second tiime and saying sorry. especially if you can edit it out before anyone sees it!!!!
5 it is more freedom. and the "best" and most "real" forum for footbag should give us options, or else it is not the best at all. It sucks. And people will go elsewhere, where freedom is encouraged!

just my opinion,
Jeremy

edit: make "updat" in "3" "update!"

It appears people are using the editing feature on this forum to it's full capacity...seeing as Derek's post doesn't seem to have any correlation to Newf's. :?

yeah, I am curious as to what message was edited away completely. . . either way, those are my beliefs. They are not "right," nor are they "wrong."

I think I'll put what I saw (and obviously Derek did to but he responded first) as a lapse of some sort. That or Colin was being very clever and actually demostrating his agreement with Jeremy by saying something in the heat of the moment and then retracting it 3 hrs later via an edit?

That's how I'll look at it anway, I've got no real problems with the .org forum, actually the only thing that's bugging me is the fact that the standard .org menu is taking up valuable horizontal real estate, but that's just me and I'm sure that'll be less of an issue as time progresses. I guess we just need to get this video codec situation resolved and move onto other bigger issues.

Unrelated, but has anyone ever hit/witnessed nuclear barrage (either variation), I heard that Johnny Murphy from NZ hit that yesterday and I'm just curious who's hitting a move of that calibre (jeremy has this every crossed your mind?)

My point is that I made an outragously ofensive post (something along the lines of "Fuck you Grommit, you're an idiot"), and it didn't even matter. The edit feature is ridiculas, and it allows for people to get away with untold volumes of shit.
