This is a little update on the Footbag programs that I run in Victoria, Australia.
Its called 'Footbag 4 Fun' and I started it last year with another Footbagger Daniel Boyle. Last year we did about 20 demos between the two of us, and visited 10 schools in Victoria. I wrote a manual and wrote a cirriculum for school p.e teachers to teach a 5 week footbag course. The schools bought a class set of footbags (30) and then the kids could buy footbags as well if they wanted.
We estimate that we taught over 4000 students in primary and secondary schools and we sold about 2500 footbags
The program made a really good profit, and it actually funded my trip to worlds, and then I was able to teach and play footbag in Japan for 3 months as well!
I am running the program again this year, and I have got some of my uni friends to volunteer their skills in accounting, taxation, website design, graphic design, project management. I have been refining this program and I am hoping to teach at as many schools as I can (hopefully more than 20) and my big goal is to have footbag go to 10,000 students in victoria.
I spoke a lot to a really major charity that runs similar sports programs at the start of 2007 and they are really wanting to see me make a success of it by myself, and then they can take my model to a much larger level, and so far its on track
1. Footbag suppliers, I am looking for places I can buy footbags to go the students and schools. My biggest expense is Footbags and I am looking for cheap or sponsored footbags in particular.
2. I'd like people to be able to see how the program works and offer advice and also use some of the information if they are interested in running programs in their country/ area.
If you want to see the program you can click on the Footbag 4 Fun section at http://www.melbournefootbag.com
or you can download the info pack that I print and send to schools that are interested in having footbag programs at their schools here
