what is this? Is it where you slice tubes and attach them to your toe walls to make them stay up?

yea, and you also add a tube to the inside of your shoe to help with inside stalls...

It's not necessary. The tube mod is just for aesthetics, I think. And the clipper on the Rod Laver doesn't need a rail to land clipper delays; a good form is what matters most.

I did this awhile ago, then I thought it was stupid and pointless. End of story.

I've used lavers with this mod. They make for a wonderful toe delay surface, and they don't get in the way at all. However, I think the fact that it's a totally unnecessary modification that makes your basic contact with the bag easier is detrimental to your game.

Here is why.

It will allow you to have bad form and still get the delays you want. However, delays done with bad form are the end of the road.

Here is what I mean by that.

when you're playing with bad form, you can't play out of whatever you're doing as diversely as when you're playing with good form. You can't maintain as much control you can when you have good form. You can't hit bigger tricks, because you will be restricted by the bad form for which your crutch (tube mod) allows.

So yeah, if all you ever want to do is easy, sloppy toe stalls and clippers and maybe some basic tricks, get used to those tube mods. If you want your game to grow, and you want to have smooth, nice form, get those tubes off of there.

The tubes won't MAKE you have bad form, but they will ALLOW for it, and, being that you are an inexperienced freestyler, you won't realize that you're using bad form, and it will probably become habit that is ingrained in your style and holds you back.

Just some things to think about. If you're really form-conscious, you can definitely have the mods and play well, but why risk it? I bet you could learn to play great with more standard mods.

Remember, shoes don't make the player. The player makes the player.

i highly agree with Matt.

even though lavers can improve your performance, lots...

i dont think tube mod will really be needed...

just watch Matt Cross' video on how he modded his lavers, and you will be happy with the results :D

For the most part, you don't really need to trim off the toe walls, unless you're really confident in yourself to not hit sloppy toe sets.
