New Band Name

Post by Pancake Flogger »

That's right modified. I need your help with naming my band!

They were Pure Sonic Intoxication before I replaced their old drummer. That was back when it was a Hendrix/Zeppelin outfit years ago. Nowadays we're playing post-rock, jazz, and bluesy indie type stuff. After hearing the name 'Pure Sonic Intoxication', I'm sure there's no doubt in your minds why we're looking for a new one.

The only names we've considered so far are 'The Straands' and 'Geese in the Trees', but we're far from making a definite decision.

Suggest away.

Ummm, name your own band? Wasn't there a thread like 2 years ago about the same thing, someone wanted modified to name their band. I think the idea of not naming your own band is pretty ridiculous.

How creative are you if you can't name yourself? Sorry to be real, but really?

Just a little help is all. Maybe we'll alter a suggestion, maybe we'll combine two, maybe we'll take one fully, who knows. I feel like your ideas will help us come up with one ourselves at the very least.

I'll post some music later on and you can decide how creative we are.

I've always thought that if a band has a dumb name then they probably suck. If a band can't even THINK of a name they are probably pretty hopeless.

Just something to think about.

Alright so Tom Mosher thinks we suck.

It has to be a name that people think is decent. It's not like we can't think of a single thing, but the public opinion matters (somewhat) in this sort of thing. It probably takes more than two days to think of a name for most bands, so I just thought I'd let modified get in on the process.

I actually like Hack! The Pentagons a lot. It sounds nice and post rocky. Here are some more I've dreamed up.

"Dusted Sandy Beach"
"Gravity Sucks" (heheh)
"Klaas is Boss"

Opinions? Keep suggesting.

My favorite way to choose band names is by picking up a book that uses verbose language and randomly pointing to a page with your eyes closed and see what it lands on. Repeat until you find a good name.

I've always wanted to have a band called 'luminous flux' so there's another option.

Good luck!

That's really an awesome technique. I was doing it with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest just now and got "Zombies Through Shiny Copper Wire" and "Mossbacked Old Bastards" as a couple of good ones.

They Die Fighting ftw! We used a toy clock that says words, it took literally 4 seconds and I bet it will have more meaning than any name that someone else will come up for you.

Seek an hero.

I always imagined a punk band called "The Kids In China" and on the cover of the first album would be a cartoon (A la Garbage Pail Kids) of a bunch of fat Chinese kids mouwing down on piles of food.

I also always imagined an indie band called "7 Against Thebes" which is the title of an ancient Greek play about a war between Thebes and 7 of it's traditional enemies.

I also always imagined a group called the "Young Lungin's" but what music they will play has yet to be decided.
