Vaasa Footblog

Post by Kimbe. »

So, I figured it was time to start this footblog so that people would get to know about us players here in Vaasa. We are mainly like three players here, occasionally a fourth one too. Kim is my name ( male, yes) and I've been playing since June 2006. Since the Finnish masters in 2007 I started to play footbag harder and as my primary sport. Another player, Robert, started playing same time as I and is still playing. The third and our newest player Joonas has been playing since January 2008 and is progressing fast.

On going event: who can juggle with two balls 10 contacts first!
Every three of us are participating and the fabolous prize; a chocolate bar, is pushing us to our limits.

So much for now, feel free to read

We had a session today with Joonas.
He hit those 6 contacts again with two balls (juggling), so I guess he's gonna win our contest  .

Highlights for me would be:
Paradox Mirage>Pixie ss Mirage> ss Butter rpt
Pdx Drifter bsos

Almost hit ducking swirl and ripwalk>ripstein

We had a short session with Robert today on our P.E lesson.
Our teacher was amazed by our skills and was telling us several times to perform on some school show. I haven't even thought about doing that and I likely won't, cause I hate to perform in front of any audience. :?

Anyways, some highlights of the session:
Ducking Butterfly>Ripwalk>Ripstein
PLO x10 (completed a challenge here)
Diving Butterfly flip

I like how vertical your leg is on toe dexes. It makes them look slow and easy. Props on fairy swirling osis bs and ducking butterfly>ripwalk>ripstein as well!

I filmed some shred from today. There's mostly tiltless runs but I think it's ok.

We have summer holidays now, so and that means I play pretty much everyday, sometimes twice a day. Joonas has been drilling basics pretty much and those are looking a lot easier for him now than a couple of weeks ago. Recently he hit 17 mirages and at least 7 infinities ( might have been more, we don't remember).
Today I hit 7 spinning clippers and 7 drifters in a row (havent been doing those drifters in a while). Also I hit my first 6 add, Blurry torque, which I managed to get on film. I can upload it here later if there is any interest, otherwise you might see it in the online competitions later on.
Still, there are lots to do about my basics, and I should really drill those more than I do now.

We had a 1h 30 min session today and at the end of the sesh we decided to film a bit with Joonas. We didn't film more than 15 min total, so the shred isn't super. Anyways, here it is.

cool video Kim.

A few critiques:

- Try and keep your arms below your shoulders. On a few moves (specifically clipper tricks, I believe) you're moving your arm up really high, which is distracting and ugly.
- Try and smooth a few things out, it seems like you're bailing into a lot of moves. Even real bails shouldn't look like they're bails. ;)

I really like your style though, you're gonna be good. :D

I think that what you need is to use more DOD's and Whirls in your run's just my opinion

Thanks for the responses.

About the hands, that's true, I've noticed it earlier. I'm really trying to keep them down. I guess the smoother I learn to do the moves, the less I will flail my arms.

And Paulo, I'm trying to get more and more whirls and swirls into my game. Some of the whirls in the vid were pretty uncontrolled but I'll try to fix that.
