Favorite Footbag Moments Not Involving Footbag

Post by Caleb »

Since recently rediscovering my interest in footbag. All the old stories have come rushing back and I don't think this thread has come up yet.

 Hood coming to Pittsburgh the night before Funtastik. We partied all around Pittsburgh for free. Around 2am-3am we called it a night, got a pizza and were headed home when we hear "Hey you skinny bitches! Give me that pizza!" I was pretty scared of the inner-city delinquent since he was much bigger than Hood and I. We ignored him for a good block or two as he followed us yelling obscenities when final Hood turns with a alcohol-induced glaze in his eye and yells "You want this pizza!? You've got to BEAT OUR BEATS!!" We spent a good 20 minutes of disconnected communication and drunken rambling discussing the terms of a beatboxing challenge while the larger man would freestyle rap over our beats......and the 'winner' would get the pizza. Needless to say: we won. Hahaha. It was a great night. We had some stories, a lot of laughs, and hood seduced a girl with a stripper's name who still to date asks about him when I see her.

 I was 16 years old when I went to Worlds 2002. My family was going to leave me in San Fransisco for the last 2 days of the tournament and Yacine/Sebastien assured them all week that they would take care of me. On one of the final days of competition, my family and I were coming back to the hotel from dinner and incidentally walked onto the same elevator as Yacine, Sebastien, 4 cases of beer, and various pieces of illegal drug equipment. Not a word was said for the 8 floor elevator ride that was to date one of the more awkward moments of my life. My mom stayed behind in San Fran for the last two days.

Funtastik sideline chill in general. Jake, Matt Cross, Outsider, Bob R, Greg Nelson, Bevier, Brad Nelson

 Discussing the world with Clavens.

 Hanging out with Team Japan in Montreal. Henmo, Yusuke, some guy named Ken, and the whole gang.

 Inventing "Wallbag" in a WV hotel room with Brad, Bobby G, Hood, Tyan Rhomas, and Jake at about 2am. And almost getting booted from the hotel for it.

Playing fooseball against Vasek and Clavens. (I got KILLED! Vasek dominated the game. He's crazy good at fooseball too, apperantly)

for some reason that's all I can think of right now. I'll post some more later

On the topic of table top sports and footbag players, the very first thing Sam C and I did after meeting was launch into a round of air hockey in the garage of my house at worlds last summer.

Footbag people are awesome, they're the kind of person who is willing to put in effort to learn shit. That often translates into other odd skills that are fun to share. I had alot of fun with Peter Irish playing with different objects and making them do weird things, also at Terra Verde in Florida.

On the side of basically any footbag event you can find a plethora of interesting side hobbies, it's so neat!

1. Sharing a tamarind (or was it passionfruit?) with Lon Smith.

2. Erik Chan making bubble tea during Worlds last year.

3. Me and James McTeague waking up a sleeping Team Japan on the last night of Worlds last year.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

The feeling that I was going to my first out of town tournament, sleeping in some random guy's house and that he was completely fine with it. This was Mike Faille's house at TO Jam and the best part was that I got to sleep next to my heroes, Jorden, Johnny, Chris, Andrew and Doug.

I was thinking about this topic for the best possible response, and well, that takes the cake for hilarity. In fact, even the pokemon game was incredible, with Colin versus Dave.

From Aus Champs 06;
When Phil M kicked the soccer ball into the kid with glasses. Also the fact that Dyalan and I both reacted in the same way.

Also the random gay guy coming into our room at the backpackers and hitting on Gareth.

Fruit picking with Dylan Fry before and after Aus Champs 05.

Candy flipping the night before playing with JP and the Melbourne crew.

By far.

But aside from that:

- Smuggling beer across the Quebec Ontario border with Seb and Yax, so we could drink illegally while watching the Canada Day fireworks, Ottawa 2005.
- My fling with Ryan Seath's friend. It's a graphic story I've only told like 4 people. Also Ottawa 2005.
- Drinking scotch with Peter Irish and Jon Schneider in Orlando, 2007.
- Finshing a keg on my front lawn the day after the players' party with Andrew Grant, Adam Greenwood and Erik Chan at Shredmonton 07.
- Almost dying twice in the same night at Hackrifice 8, and then giving up the couch upstairs (and sleeping on a bunched up tent halfway downstairs) so that two others could make out undisturbed. (...this is also while My Champion was hugging the toilet, and our host was passed out drunk after resolving not to drink very much that night.)
- Leaving the Place Des Arts shred with Andrew Coleman to chase after 4 girls to get their numbers, which we did! We got back, and Red looked at me and said "Dja get some digits?!" ...pretty much the first time I'd ever really put myself out there like that, and I came out on top. Well, until that night anyway. :D
- Dinner with Team Japan and Caleb Abraham in Montreal 2004.
- Rory unplugging the toilet with a stick in Orlando, 2007.

Wow, I'm certain there's more, I may post later. :)

Who is that on the left?

 Listening to the Cosby rap 1000 times at US Open 2006 with Zeb, Kyle, Chris and Zac (Jackson)
 Walking back to the hotel several miles, drunk with Chris Miller and sobering up along the way discussing all matter of things
 Breaking down near the ID/MT border and sending poor Kyle Hewitt with the tow truck guys into the next town 12 miles away, MFJ 4.
 Eating at Veggie Heaven after a museum session with Cody and James. That was some serious vegetable murdering.
 Many a post-shred at Barton Springs. Jumping into the freshest and most refreshing water on earth.
 Many a late night chit chat with Jay Boychuk at Worlds 07

Ben. That's a Montréal local. It's a great story that is better told in person.

@1: HAHAHA, SO funny!!!
@2: if i recall correctly, while it was technicaly the day after the players party, we hadn't gone to bed yet, and therefore it was STILL the players party, even if it was 9 am.
@3: I can't even read that whole thing without bursting out in laughter at the memories, and those that were filled in for me later, of that night.
