Trick o' the Week - Legover

Post by RawSko »

Just like the Hot Trick Comp, for anyone that knows about it, only non-competitive (much as I love competition). Post a vid of yourself doing 4 consecutive legovers! Everyone is welcome to enter, and everyone is encouraged to give tips/ rank the players (although we won't decide an overall winner)/ give props. Feel free to be creative in the way you perform your trick!! If you can come up with a new way of doing legover (for example) that looks cooler than today's norm, that's way better than doing'em the same as everyone else.

Please, if you participate and submit a vid, it's bad form not to comment on the rest of the participants' videos (as well as your own, if you want).

The goal of this thread is to inspire creative ways of doing tricks, and to help develop good form. There are right ways and wrong ways of doing tricks, IMO. It's helpful too if you can include a slow-mo of your 4 legovers.

Couple more things: Creativity for the sake of creativity is not necessarily a good thing. Just because you do a trick differently than everyone else does not mean that it's a good way of doing it. However, if you think you've got a good idea, take the risk! Post it! (Big risk :P)
Also, if you think it's creative to start with a far legover, rather than do four legovers, you're mistaken. The idea is to focus on one trick. Don't change the trick to something else all together.

Ideas for future tricks of the week are welcome! I would like to keep them as symmetric tricks that can be repeated using both sides (ex- ripwalk, attomsmasher, ducking clipper) as opposed to moves that would remain on one side/ require connector tricks (ex- sidewalk, diving clipper, far legover, etc)

I'll post my vid sometime tomorrow
You guys can start posting (and commenting) whenever!! (now is best. :P)

here's mine. Sorry for taking so long.

Your legovers do look alot better, Dan! I think you should try holding yourself a little more over them (ie: keep the trick in closer) and watch where your knee goes when you dex the bag. You're knee position isn't exactly wrong, it's just not consistent. If you watch a bunch of Vasek videos and copy where he puts his knee so that he can still see the bag, you'll have better looking/more confidant legovers and your game will look even better. Your legovers are pretty good as is, but do'em more like Vasek and they'll be better still.

Vasek kicks ass

Crap, I totally forgot about this thread. Good thing I decided to check the Trick Tips forum today. I'll see if I can take a video today.

Yes I see. You do look like you use a lot less effort, since my leg goes further out. I'll see what I can do about tightening this trick.

I actually love this concept for a thread.

For the sake of this thread, I will evaluate your legovers.

From I've learned, you're supposed to use you the momentum of the hoppinh motion between toe delays to help bring your leg over the bag in a more effortless looking way. Your dexing is nice and close to your body (something I lack), but you don't seem to be using any 'hop' at all. When you do alternating toe stalls, make sure you have a certain bounce to it. It's hard to explain in words for me, but you probably know what I'm talking about.

Basically, emulate Ben.

So what's next? Personally I'd like to have my Dada Curve evaluated (although I might not be able to do 4 b2b), but it's obviously not up to just me. I'll be fine with anything, really.

I think you're talking about the "magic hop," but it looks to me like Ben was doing a magic hop (watch his heel). I do it sometimes, but occasionally I feel like just doing some tricks like basic stalls, and legover/pickup without the magic hop, so it's not like I rely on it to dex properly. I guess it depends on preference, although it is important to know how to.

Gaaah. I keep forgetting to film this, and I'm leaving for D.C. tomorrow :( So I'll either post my video in a week, or hopefully film it sometime while I'm out there and get it on here.

Yeah, I magic hop with toe stalls and everything, but I generally don't do it with legovers. Sometimes I do, and it usually depends on how much time i feel like i have in order to complete the dex and such. But yeah, I'll try and do magic hop more in there, thanks

I wonder Danny if you are starting to bring your toe up before you have caught the bag? Might lead to some bounced toe stalls on harder tricks later?

Hey Dan,

You're still missing the hop!

Watch Ben's and notice that there's a plant-Plant in the middle where momentum transfers into the legovering leg. You don't have that plant-Plant at all, have a look! That is the magic bit you still need to unlock everything.

Keep at it!

i think that's exactly his problem. danny, try doing some slow ones where you do legover>hold it for a moment>legover>hold it for a moment and so on. just concentrate on one move, it seems like your just concentrating on setting up for the next move.

lol, your walk to the camera supplied all the style that string needed. :P

Maybe, try dexing the bag higher and having the foot of your dexing leg higher off the ground while you complete the dex. This will give you more room to cusion the bag and get that clear STALL as opposed to Pop that some of the other were reffering to. ...I think. Try it out and let us know how it works. Maybe make another vid.

I forgot all about Trick o' the Weeks with all the excitement of the Hack Off battles. I want to do ducking clipper this week. We could do Dada Curve if somebody who was good at them wanted to give us a vid to emulate. Any volounteers? I'll make a string for ducking clippers later. I prolly wont be able to film mine until wednesday though.

'till then.
Thanks for keeping the thread alive! Your legover are looking alot better, Danny.
