Thanks Eoghan. I've been working on making my flip as effortless as my strongside. It's actually getting to the point now where I can duck my flip without much effort. That feels *really* good.

Hey Kev. I know I'm gonna regret this. But you should download and install ableton 7 torrent. It's only 80 mb and AMAZING for that amount of data. It is a German program, and oh so elegant, shapable and perfect. Two little beautiful buttons on the upper lefthand corner called key and midi let you continuously remap anything onscreen to any key on any keyboard so to speak. Its so fucking beatjugglisheous. Then it combines a medium++ stable vst host and some super trackbouncing control with 2 differnt dimensions of sequencer <--- DUDE THIS SHIT IS UNREAL. One of them is a hybrid cubase SX and FL studio horizontal sequencer... nd the other one is like... a virtual MP3J computer with on the fly beatmapping. This beatmapping is fucking ADVANCED TOO.

Amazing help and tutorial. Good onboard sound machines but not as good as reason 4. Amazingly reason 4 will rewire into ableton. Oh my gangster!!

So, yes sir get those two programs.

In February 2007, I wrote:I'm working two jobs now, saving for school in '08. I've never had two jobs at once before, so I guess we'll see how it goes. My general plan is to work my freaking buns off for a full year and save whatever I can in that timespan. I'm a generally frugal person, so I think I should do alright for myself.
I paid for school two days ago. The grand total was almost sixteen thousand dollars.

These next few months of my life are going to be absolutely pivotal. I'm finished working in Edmonton on July 11th. I'm leaving for Europe for a month on July 18th. I'm moving to Vancouver in September to attend the Pacific Audio Visual Institute for a course in Audio Engineering. It's a full year course, September 19th til September 16th.

I was re-reading some of my old blog posts, and I realised I haven't trained for real in quite some time. With working so much, and with school on the brain, I pretty much ignored my body for a full year. I don't even know how much I will be able to play in Europe. I guess juggling and filming will keep me sane anyway.

I *am* getting a brand new camcorder in a few days, so regardless of how much I am playing, I will be having a great time. There are a few projects in the works right now that might make it online for Christmas. Or maybe the Christmas after, knowing me.

This next year is going to be one of rehabilitation, and reforming my game. I'm starting from the ground up. I'm not going to work on double dexes until my basic downtime game is flawless. Footbag isn't really about big tricks to me anymore I don't think. I mean, I still love them, but I've come to realise that I would prefer to be hitting 100 tiltless than not hitting anything at all.

Everything I know now is going to change. I'm so excited.

And terrified.

I kept a journal of my entire Europe trip, except for Worlds...mainly because I ran out of space in the notebook I had.

I think I may slowly begin copying the whole thing to here, with a few small edits to maintain the privacy of some individuals who would rather not be featured. :)

Espoo - July 19/08

I arrived at Edmonton International Airport having not slept for the past two nights. What with having to both pack for Europe and move out of my condo, I've been a busy boy. I severely underestimated the amount of time it would take me to complete these tasks, and so, didn't sleep for about 60 hours. To make circumstances better, I found that I had a few bottles of unfinished white wine in my fridge...and since I can't relocate them, I decided it would be a waste not to drink it all down. Not a *great* choice, but it made the following 5 or so hours interesting.

So here I am on friday at 3am, trying to finish packing everything I own into boxes, trying to make sure I have everything I need for europe...and I'm effing drunk. I was ALREADY drunk from fatigue alone, the actual alcohol didn't help. It was delicious, but wow. I don't even remember some of that evening. I buzzed my hair, and didn't even remember THAT until I felt my head in the Calgary airport the next day.

Anyway.

I suppose I've also been nervous about coming to Finland , on my own, for the longest amount of time I've ever been away from home. ...but, so far it seems there's no real reason to worry.

I slept for the duration of my flights for the most part. Depriving myself of sleep for the past few days may have helped to counteract the effects of jet lag. Lauri even asked me at one point, "...sooooo, why aren't you tired?"

I met the Espoo guys immediately upon arriving in Helsinki: Samu Ahola, Tuomas Riisalo and Lauri Airinen. (Riku Ahola later on.) I am and was kind of embarrassed to use what little Finnish I know...they tend to laugh whenever I say "Kiitos" or "Kyllä". I know they're not laughing AT me, but rather just because I'm probably a rare case...a Canadian who knows any finnish whatsoever.

I guess I'm unique in shred too, apparently! I hit flail x3 and got mad props. I explained that I was playing way below my level, but they didn't seem to care. I mean, I've hit flail x3 > ss flail x3 > rpt... oh well, they still thought pixie everything was cool?

I filmed a bit with my new camera, but really it was just practice for the upcoming and more important projects. I actually got some really cool stuff on tape from Samu. Whirlygig swirl, blurry flurry, dbl spinning dbl down...Lauri and Tuomas ripped it too. Seems the finns are pretty good.

After shred, we grabbed some quick eats and headed over to a park to play some soccer with their friends. Again, I was nervous at first, but it was actually super fun. I scored some absolutely SICK goals *cough*, including one on my own team...it was especially awesome because Samu had jokingly taken the time to explain how the game is played: "Okay, so the ball goes in THAT net. That one over there. Not this one."

Oops!

We watched Vasek's DVD as well as most of the footage from the day. I thought I'd seen some of the Vasek vid before (back in December of '06), but turns out Eli did a more complete and polished version for the DVD cut. It was definitely the highlight of the whole thing, as despite the high quality of shred...the editing didn't impress me much. Edit: I'm probably just too critical, and I probably shouldn't talk until I release the Hackrifice 2007 vid...

However, seeing my HD footage on an HD television was SO sweet. Everything is so effing crisp. The finns agreed. We had a great time together, drinking and watching the footage in slow-mo.

Fuck I'm tired.

Maybe I should try to speak more finnish tomorrow. Joo!

"Sphere". And yeah, that is one of the things I was talking about. :D I guess people will get to hear that story after all.

Espoo: July 20/08

More finnish today. Minun tarvitse nukkua. But first!

I woke up at 2pm. I guess I needde the rest after all. Mostly a chill day, went to the park and played in the rain a bit. I love that feeling, always reminds me of Ottawa 2005 with James McCullough. We eventually came back home and drank until midnight. Kind of a non-day, but honestly it was nice to have a nice relaxing day like this after the chaos I experienced leading up to this trip.

Talked with the guys a bit about sex. Apparently I'm Samu's hero. AND as it turns out, getting a blowjob happens *rarely* here. It's regarded as more intimate than sex.

...what?!

Helsinki tomorrow. My 5 hr battery is ready!

I should apologize if the writing in this journal is a bit dry...whenever I was writing in it I was usually super tired, and just forcing myself to do it because I knew I would enjoy reading it later regardless of the quality of the text. I'm not really a star writer anyway, but hopefully people will like peering into the last month of my life. :)

Espoo: 21/07/08

Well I slept 14 hours two nights ago and only 5 tonight. Clearly, my inner clock has no idea what to think. I woke up at 7am, took a shower, studied some finnish, read up on my camera a bit more, and then went back to bed.

3pm or so, we all went to the Airinen residence. DAMN they've got a nice place. Lauri got ready while Samu and Tuomas played pool, and I played piano. I hadn't played in about a week, so it was nice to sit down in front of one. Tuomas made the comment, "Wow, you can really play!" That felt cool to hear, since I don't usually have an audience.

I met two more finnish players today: Timo something and Pekka Raitio. Pekka was actually really good! Whirlygig swirl stands out in my mind, as well as blurry whirling swirl bsos...etc. I was told he has also hit blurry whirling swirl b2b? Bonkers.

Also filmed some of the first "putting it all together" footage. The finns were pretty hilarious when asked to say something like, "Mun nimeni on Lauri, tämä oli whirring swirl."

I think that 100 vids, all in the players' native language, will give an excellent scope of how global teh sport really is, as well as a little bit of a unique character to the whole collection. I know when I was a younger player, watching whatever shred vid, I always delighted at the more personal clips of players talking...made them seem more human or something?

Ed: This project has stalled for a variety of reasons. I probably mention it a few more times in the journal, but I likely won't be continuing with it for another year at least, if not two. Please don't ask questions.

...öita.

Espoo: 22/07/08

Okay, so THIS time, I slept three hours. THREE. I went to bed around 11:30pm, so when I got out of bed to get a drink of water, I found that Lauri and Samu were still up drinking. So, instead of a glass of water, I grabbed a beer and joined them outside.

We chatted about whatever for awhile, but soon moved inside for a game of Pass the Pigs. That game is sooooooooooo footbag! Lauri was super drunk, he couldn't even remember how to count his score. He rolled a trotter and a razorback, and sorta pauses, and says, "TEN!" (which is correct.)

Then he rolls two dot siders, and he pauses, and then says, "TEN!"

Me: "...no!"

Him, immediate confusion, "HOW IS THAT NOT TEN?! It's a double! TUPLA! TUPLA!" (sp?)

It was seriously so much fun. I laughed until I cried.

We finally got to bed (again) around 6am. And then I woke up (again) around 1pm.

--------

Went to downtown Helsinki! Didn't do much sightseeing (but I don't really care about that stuff anyway) but we chilled at the mall for awhile. There are so few obese people in Finland. I think I may have seen ONE so far, and she wasn't even that big. So, to put it another way, the women here are, on average, super cute! I guess I will see for sure at the bar tomorrow, I know Tuomas can't wait. He's such a player, but I don't know if I will get my nerve up to speak to anyone at all. I don't know if I'll even want to.

Honestly, I'm just excited about finallly meeting Anssi.
