progress (two new vids posted 07-20 and 07-21-2008)
Last time there wasn't a whole lot of interest when I posted for pointers. But we'll try it again. Made some decent progress that you'll hopefully notice in this vid. It's long, but if you watch through til the end, the combo difficulty ramps up as vid progresses.
Not interested in comments on the editing (there's none) but am very interested in "this was good, do more of that", "I can see progress in xyz", and "why don't you work on this, or add that" types of comments.

edit:
As I post new vids to end of this thread, I'll also keep a running list here:
07/19/08 solo

07/20/08 with Drew K.

Bob,
Nice shred. It seems the moves you were hitting you have down pretty good. Since you posted this video in a call for advice I will give you mine.
Music? To be honest I spent the first few moments of your video trying to figure out if my computer sound was turned off or disabled. Music is a great touch to a video. It provides more stimulus to the viewer thereby enhancing the viewing experience. Also, people like to know what you listen to. It makes the video more personal.
Flip drifter and flip double down? I didn't see any. I would say add those to your game as soon as you can.
Body type. You and I have similar body types so I say this as I would say it a brother. We are not skinny individuals and so our footbag game is going to be different than the more lightweight players. That being said, I highly recommend you add long distance running to your list of hobbies. I started running a few months ago and my body and my game has changed a lot. My string length has nearly doubled. My flexibility has been improving since I stretch following every exercise. My body is trimming down and I am really enjoying the benefits of that.
I hope my advice was helpful. Feel free to PM me if you would like to talk more privately.
Peace.

I've been watching your videos, and am really liking how your game is (re)progressing!
For the most part, I'd say you're a good sight better than me, so I have few tips to give, but one thing I'd really like to see from you is getting some of your downtime elements (I'm thinking specifically drifters and dlos) more down-timey. Working on the toe-set, or even paradox version of those tricks would probably help you out on that one.
Also, this may be a personal preference, but my favourite common two-add is illusion, and I don't see any in this video, at least. Some smudges, and paradox illusions would add a cool little extra bit of variety to things.
You're mad good, I am jealous. Keep it up!

hey mike, thanks for the comments

well, I've lost 40 pounds so far, so I'm trying. But hopefully what you meant is that no matter what weight I am, I'm a big guy ("big boned").
------
edit, just saw Sam's comments too. Ha ha, you're on the money about illusions and down time. I'm trying to get past the down time limitation (harder than it sounds with thicker legs) because I agree. Wish I could have (say) Pete Bowler's drifters. Illusion definitely needs some more inclusion, will play around with variations. Thanks for the comments!
I didn't realize when capturing that volume on my cam corder needs to be on, else it doesn't grab the source. D'oh! Won't make that mistake againMusic
There were a few flip drifters in there, it's just getting mid-run worthy so you'll see more of those shortly. I don't know how to do double down yet, but I think you meant paradon. Same as drifter, weakside is just catching up, so it doesn't end up in good runs (else the run often is ended by the attempt) but I do attempt them a ton (the runs just don't make vid right now)Flip drifter and flip double down
We are not skinny individuals

Bob,
Congratulations on the 40lbs. I know how difficult it can be. Keep up the good work.

Bob,
Great to see another video of you. I agree, we gotta have some music.
The one thing that stood out to me was your DLOs. It would help your efficiency to work on combining the dexes more, they're quite separated right now. This slows the move down and forces you to set higher, which makes the move more difficult, and you expend more energy going for a bigger jump. This is especially apparent in your toe DLOs. Try turning your body more like a pdx DLO rather than setting and jumping really high. There were a few better DLOs, like the one at 1:41ish, do them more like that.
Ducking legover all over the place, hit that on flipside please! Such an underused move, it was cool to see it so much.
Flip spinning. I think the only time I saw it was on that spin > rip rpt combo, and it looked really good. Let's see more flip spinning in runs.

Hey Ben, thanks for commenting.. actually, you're consistent at giving me feedback, and I appreciate it.
Music, yeah, will fix that next time. Ha ha, for a technically competent person, I suck at video stuff.
I kinda like big DLO's. I'll learn them the other way you suggest too but expect to see big DLO's with deliberate dexes.
It was definitely a ducking legover day. Strong side finally dialed so it made a lot of runs. Weakside isn't as far along. AKA run ender. More soon. Been working ducking/diving mirage/pdx mirage and pickups too. Same with spinning ending on all those.
Flip spinning, I had several in this vid, but I hear your point. Much more lopsided to strong side. Same as with ducking legover. Strong just dialed, weak nearly dialed, so it's all about what makes the vid cut.
Thanks again! I'll maybe just update this post with my next "progress" vid to see if I can incorporate some of everyone's pointers.

Tricks I know you can add in but dont remember seeing
spinning oasis
weakside ducking legover
Dude, liked the dynos , try pixie dyno, stepping dyno
If you like ducks, try changing it up- drill- ducking diving weaving repeat
also sidewalk ripwalk repeat may help overall
thanks for sharing- I watch all of it. Cool shred

SHRED HARD!
I'm freaking impaired when it comes to loading vids.. I swear I captured sound, but it ain't here. So just play Picture of Nectar by Phish (that's what I was listenting to) and save your "it needs sound" comments please.
But all other comments are welcome.
Just a ok sesh, trying to get back into shredding instead of drilling.

Yay, the help menu is my best friend. I have sound again. It's just the session sound, but someday I'll learn to run a track behind it. My editing sucks, but that ain't the point anyways.
Anyhow, introducing Drew K. (duffelbag).
I played better today, the shred practice is helping. Some cool links in here, I think it's worth watching hopefully.
Comments/suggestions/challenges please.
