The Suedes :

Post by Hobit »

Looking into buying some cheaper versions of suedes that compare to
ultra suede light . A few are Mole Skin suede , Micro Suede , or others .

Practice stitching purposes only . Any suggestions ?

Ultrasuede light isn't that expensive and using other stuff is usually a waste of effort because no matter how well you make it they often won't break in.

If you really want to try stitching but don't want to commit money just yet then use any old fabric from around the house and make a 4 panel. That will tell you if you really want to keep doing it.

Yeah just get the lite.
It's probably best to practice on the material you're gonna end up using anyway, and really, the smallest amount you can buy at Fields will last you a bunch of bags anyway.

Yeah, US light is the way to go. I used microsuede for practice when I first started, but instead of breaking in, it breaks.

Where does one get pig suede? The last person I heard used and experimented with this material was jerab.

I've found it before through google, but it is sold in whole hides, you can't get like an 1/8 of a yard...

Practice Stitching :

Post by Hobit »

Thankyou for the replys .

I was only asking because Jo-Ann Fabrics had a 60% off sale this weekend .
I ended up buying a few 1/8th yard cuts of fuax suede as a temporary solution . That is until im able to purchase some Ultra Suede Light .

Ive also practiced stitching some bags out of polar fleece . For practice and method experience this was sufficient . Im still working on an experimental patern out of diamonds , it only requires 30 tiles to create the sphere . My latest practice footbag created from the faux suede turned out great . Perfectly spherical but a little stiff . I filled it with copper head bb's , im still searching for a smaller diameter bb or bearing wether its tungsten or steel .

Thanks again for the replys .

any of you guys use the ultrasude to make pouches and stuff? i like to make little satchels with the ultrasuede but was wondering if anything else would be better for a pouch/satchel type of thing maybe like the ultrasuede elite performance.
